The Sans 13 Tritium Dial Tactical Watch

Sans 13

Unsatisfied with the current offerings on the market, the team of Jerommie Smith and Ryan Bradley decided to make their own tactical watch that blends form and function. What they came up with is the Sans 13 Tritium Dial Tactical Watch. The size of the Sans 13 is 43mm, with a case made from PVD coated 316L stainless steel and a black dial with full tritium vital markers and hands. It features Ronda 6003.D 4 Jewel Swiss quartz movement, hardened mineral crystal, a one-direction rotating bezel, and a 5mm 100% natural rubber custom-designed strap, which is easily interchangeable with an aftermarket strap, courtesy of the 20mm lug size. It’s water resistant up to 100m, and the watch face features a magnified date window. The Sans 13 is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, and the watch itself is available as a pledge reward, at far below the estimated retail price.

Esstac AK Flap Retainers Available from SKD Tactical

If you’ve ever tried to use bungie style retention on AK magazines you know that they tend to slip out of place. The Esstac AK Flap Retainer takes the magazine’s shape into account and are designed to catch the edge of the magazine. These are designed to be used with all 7.62 and 5.56 Boar Series Chest Rigs and Wedges but since what you are getting is the webbing bits that you attach to your existing bungie, there is no reason these won’t work with virtually any rig. Sold in packs of 4.

Trigger Magazine

Trigger Magazine

From the makers of Guns & Ammo comes Trigger Magazine. A new special interest and firearms publication, Trigger covers “guns, optics, ammo, gear, swag, carry, adventure, sport, history, [and] lifestyle”. This inaugural issue has articles on Tracking Point, POV cameras, custom pistols, defensive driving, WWII reenactments, the new Call of Duty, and more. What really caught my eye was the article on Rock River Arms, which included admiring detail of CEO Chuck Larson’s sports cars. Say what you will about Recoil, but this is the second similar special interest publication from other publishing houses since Recoil’s introduction a year and a half ago. To sum up Trigger Magazine, it’s Maxim for NRA members (except it’s a total sausage fest), but I like it regardless and will be picking up future issues as they’re published.

GRIMP DAY Canadian Style

Earlier today, Arc’teryx shared a story about Canada’s RONIN Rescue being the first North American team to compete in the annual GRIMP DAY (Group de Recconnaissance Interventione Millieux Perilleux) held in Belgium. This year’s event was in June and saw 34 international teams of rescue workers consisting of police, army, and civil defense experts competing in a number of rope rescue scenarios.

If I’d say, I have one take away from the article, it would be, “Vive le Difference”. Not only do we have different protocols here in Canada and the US than those in Europe but the environments are somewhat different as well. Differences in TTPs served as both help and hindrance for Team RONIN Rescue. Initially, the them used North American safety protocols to rig their systems but found themselves falling behind by mid-day as they negotiated six different scenarios. But their different point of view also helped them.

“There’s no wide stairways and elevator access to transport your gear; anchor points are very different. So we adapted,’ explains team leader Kevin Ristau. “For example, we approached a parking lot extraction like a confined space scenario, raising and lowering our patient on a 4:1 mechanical advantage system. No other team even thought to approach the location in that manner. We gained time with that one.’

As for how Arc’teryx fits in to, they provided some great clothing for the team.

This kind of out of the box thinking is what Arc’teryx is all about. “These guys operate at the very highest level of skills and resourcefulness. It’s a privilege to work with them,’ says James Bronson, Arc’teryx Pro and Industry Sales Supervisor. Bronson supported each member of the team with a Heli Guide Jacket in addition to the Talos LT Halfshell and Drac Pant from Arc’teryx LEAF (Law Enforcement Armed Forces).

Hodge Defense Systems…If You Get It, You Get It

Sunday, July 14th, 2013

Since I posted it last Saturday, some of you guys may have missed the fact that Hodge Defense Systems officially launched a week ago. Over the past few years I had heard Hodgie’s name from a lot of guys that I respect and when I found out he had finally launched his own Black Rifle company, I knew that I needed to pass the word. While Jim Hodge is a guy you may have never heard of, he is very well known in select circles for building some outstanding guns and he is one of those mystery guys that big gun companies have on speed dial.

Trust me, you are going to see some great things coming from Hodge Defense Systems.
