Ask SSD – Price of an Ironman high capacity ammunition carriage system

Monday, June 6th, 2016

Even though we don’t sell anything, we often get requests for quotes. This is one worth sharing. However, the name of the actual requestor has been deleted.

Dear Sir or Ms.,
Request price, at your earliest convenience, on your Gun Pack for M240 Machine Gun.
Thank you.
Respectfully,

Project Officer
U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force

For those of you unfamiliar with an Ironman, it is a government owned design for an ammo backpack with feedchute for the M240 developed by Natick’s Quick Reaction Cell and the Rapid Equipping Force, the very office asking us for a quote. Talk about Irony, man.

Consequently, our answer for the request is simple…

But seriously, if you’re looking for an ammunition pack for the M240 Machine Gun, we suggest you take a look at a product made by one of our advertisers.

The MICO by TYR Tactical was created specifically for this requirement at the request of a military customer. In fact, it was fielded by SOF before the Army developed the Ironman for deployed forces from the Iowa National Guard.  What’s more, the MICO even has an NSN: 8465-01-629-5960, and it works.

Ask SSD – Is This The LMT SURG Candidate?

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Dear SSD,

This carbine showed up on “House of Cards”. Is it the first public view of LMT’s Suppressor Upper Receiver Group candidate fir SOCOM or did someone in the prop department give tge actor a rifle with no barrel?

-Karl

Dear Karl,

We’re going to punt and crowdsource this one. Although, we’re leaning toward “short barrel” rather than “SURG”.

Perhaps a reader has some insight?

Ask SSD – What Does It Cost?

Tuesday, March 29th, 2016

The short answer to every email we get asking if we make various products or have them in stock or can expedite your order is “No.” We don’t make or sell anything. Instead, send us an email asking us where you might find what you’re looking for. We might be able to help. But please, be specific.

Yes, this is an actual email sent to SSD.

Ask SSD – I Want To Order “Insert Widget Name” From You

Monday, October 5th, 2015

We constantly receive emails from folks asking to purchase this item or that from us that they read about here on SSD. Sorry, but we don’t sell anything.

No, we aren’t going to be making anymore Glocks because we never made any in the first place.

We also can’t give you a status update on your order, since you didn’t purchase anything from us.

Finally, we also can’t give you a price quote, especially you BATFE, who asked for the “car bombs“, since once again, we don’t sell anything.

Those links we provide with each story? That’s where you need to go.

Pro Tip – Outprocessing CIF

Thursday, September 3rd, 2015

Ever been told by CIF that you’re missing an item with a nomenclature that has you scratching your head? I mean, the Line Item Numbers and nomenclatures can be pretty confusing.  Take for instance “Trousers, Combat.”  There can be several different items on your records with name but each with a different LIN.  The folks at Torii Station on Okinawa created this handy web-based guide to help you out, which the NC National Guard is hosting on their site.

Simply visit www.nc.ngb.army.mil. Type ‘CTRL+F’ which opens a find window and then type in the LIN in question.  It will take you to a photo of the item in question.

Thanks BS!

Ask SSD – How Do I Sign Up For Your Newsletter?

Sunday, August 30th, 2015

We get asked this a lot but unfortunately, we don’t offer a newsletter. In fact, we’re not even sure that anyone is actually interested in an SSD newsletter. However, we do have a way for you to have the articles delivered directly to you via our RSS feed.

We’ve been getting a few questions about how to subscribe to our RSS feed. Well, it couldn’t be simpler.

1) Visit www.soldiersystems.net/feed. It’ll look like this:

RSS 1

2) Subscribe to the feed using the dropdown menu. You can utilize Live Bookmarks, Microsoft Outlook, or any other program which supports RSS feeds.

RSS 2

3) Alternatively, a number of web services also allow for subscription to an RSS feed. Just search ‘RSS Reader’ or a similar term in your search engine of choice and work from there. Usually, with online services you’ll simply have to provide the website for the feed to pull from, which in this case would be www.soldiersystems.net.

4) Enjoy your new subscription to the SSD RSS feed!

If you have any more questions, feel free to post them in the comments section and we’ll see what we can do to help you.
