O P Tactical – Altama Jungle PX Boots

Thursday, September 28th, 2017

The other day when we mentioned the reproduction, 1st pattern Jungle Boots, several readers were disappointed that their sizes weren’t available. As many of you agree with me that the green USGI Jungle Boot was the greatest issue footwear ever, I thought I’d share these babies, offered by O P Tactical. Granted, they have the padded collar, added in the early 80s, but this is still a great boot. One thing I really like about them is they’ve Replaced the old anti-punji stake metal plate with a LENZI non-metallic L-Protection anti-penetration board which uses pre-treated ceramic and high tenacity fibers.

Yep, that’s a genuine Panama Tread Direct Molded Sole. That’s becuase these are made on original Ro-Search machinery. Ro-Search was a business unit of Wellco Boots and Original Footwear owns both Altama and Wellco.

SSD Exclusive – Belleville Unveils “Burma” – New Ver 2 Jungle Combat Boot

Thursday, August 31st, 2017

BELLEVILLE JUNGLE COMBAT BOOT
The “Burma”, Style# 901 V2

Belleville Boot Company has been contracted to provide 400 pairs of its new, lower profile Jungle Combat Boot (JCB) to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (25th ID) and cadre of the Jungle Operations Training Center (JOTC) will be targeted to test and evaluate the “Burma” boot.

Named in memory of the famed Marauders of the 5307th Composite Unit, whose actions in the Burma jungles during WWII are legendary; this “Version 2” has been updated from Belleville’s first JCB submission to the Army to include critical enhancements that were suggested from soldiers who performed the original wear tests.

Key design and performance criteria goals were to:
• Reduce overall weight (compared to the Version 1 JCB)
• Reduce thickness/height of the polyurethane midsole
• Enhance drainage
• Minimize water pick up/absorption of upper materials
• Maximize dry out time
• Provide traction and grip in wet, muddy environments

The Burma boot features:
• Full grain, flesh-out, waterproof leather (coyote color)
• Medial-side and Lateral-side drainage perforations
• The Vibram® Panama II outsole with MEGAGRIP® compound
• Enhanced cushioned insole with drainage channels
• State-of-the-art, polyurethane direct injection construction

In addition to these features, the Burma is also built on the same last as the U.S. Army’s Hot Weather Combat Boot, Temperate Weather Combat Boot, and Intermediate Cold/Wet Boot…insuring a consistent fit across all of the Army’s issued boots.

Belleville is slated to deliver these 400 pairs on 30-OCT-17 and will also offer the Burma 901 V2 for sale later in the fall through AAFES Military Clothing Sales and AAFES on-line.

OP Tactical Offering Altra Lone Peak 3.5 Mid Mesh

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017

One of the biggest complaints I see in comments on posts about footwear is that they are too narrow. Jon at O P Tactical had mentioned to me his success with the Altra brand of shoe. I checked them out at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market and then bought a pair of Lone Peak 3.5 trail runners from REI.

Generally, if I’m on my feet all day walking, I wear a compression brace on my left knee. Wearing these, I didn’t need it.

I had to laugh at myself. They certainly offer a distinct aesthetic. I looked down and mentioned to my wife that they were shaped like the foot. Sure enough, right on the toe, it says “Foot Shape”.

At ORSM, I first encountered the Altra Lone Peak 3.5 Mid Mesh. The first thing that struck me was the Sand color.

Also, they are a Zero Drop shoe, which will be new for many.

Other features include the Gaiter Trap slots but I find them kind of superfluous, considering the shoe is mesh, so stuff is going to get in the toe box even if you’re wearing a gaiter.

As for the width of the toe box. This image compares them to Salomons.

O P Tactical also has them in Black.

I’ve already ordered a pair in Sand. Get yours at www.optactical.com/allope35midm.
