Who Says Teeth Don’t Look Awesome?

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

The other day we posted a photo of LBT’s new van complete with Flying Tiger teeth. One of our readers said that the teeth thing had been overdone. Perhaps, but I don’t see how you couldn’t love this.

EOD Foundation Presents Service Dog to Wounded Warrior at Warrior East

Thursday, July 10th, 2014

Earlier today, during the Warrior Expo setup day, Chief Steve Bronson and Axl Rose, his Dutch Shepard Pitbull presented Wounded Warrior Brad Lang with his new service animal, Diego, on behalf of the EOD Warrior Foundation.

20140709-225844-82724140.jpg

A Wounded Warrior, Brad Lang retired from the Marine Corps as an EOD SSgt after receiving graves wounds on July 24th, 2011 in the Sangin River Valley in Helmland Province. He recovered and nowadays, Brad keeps his head in the game by running Stumpy’s Custom Guns, Inc. in Swansboro, NC along with Johnny Morris who also lost a leg as a Marine EOD NCO. They named the shop “Stumpies” because they’ve got one good leg between the two of them. They also employ other Wounded Warriors.

Diego is a two year old Belgian Malanois. He’s undergone seven months of training for his new assignment as Brad’s service dog. Steve Bronson has really brought Diego a long way over that time.

This is a reunion for Brad and Diego. They last saw each other during SHOT Show in January. Brad had Diego initially for about four months and then he turned him over to BMC Bronson (USN, Ret) to train him as a service dog. Diego has been learning how to recover Brad’s chair, assist with handicapped doors and crosswalks as well as regular doors. Most of all, Diego will be someone to, in Brad’s own words, “watch my Six.”

EOD Warrior Foundation has paid for the entire training process. Everything from food to vet bills to training. They even purchased a Jog-a-Dog treadmill for Diego so that he can work off his excess energy. I spoke with EOD Warrior Foundation Founder and Chairman of the Board BMCM Ken Falke (EOD) (USN, Ret). He said, “We’re honored to be able to sponsor Diego’s training in order to make a difference in Brad’s life. We’re also grateful to Chief Bronson for his time and patience training Diego.”

Diego and Brad have one more challenge to surmount. Diego will be taking a public access test to assess his abilities to work with Brad in a public setting. Based on what I saw today, they’ll do just fine.

Executive Protection Dogs, A Learning Curve!

Monday, July 7th, 2014

This is a guest post from the CEO of Intelligent Protection, regarding the use of ‘Executive Protection Dogs’.

Having been involved in the security and protection industry for a number of years, I was bemused at a client from the US traveling with Executive Protection Dogs.

Not much use in London, Paris and Rome right? No, Very wrong!

As not only the owner of Intelligent Armour, but also of intelligent Protection International Limited, (a UK based close protection company), I see many different things and many different places. So, a client of mine tells me that he is bringing over to Europe two working Executive Protection Dogs to assist in the role of protecting the principle and his family – I thought he was mad and that it was a waste of time and his money. I was very much mistaken.

Seeing these Dogs and handlers in action is awesome, total concentration. A pair of working dogs in a crowded London street in theatre land, something to see.

I cannot tell you how professional these dogs and handlers were. Ultra professional and my mind is totally changed about the use of Dogs in this roll. If you are in a country where carrying firearms is not permitted, then one of these highly trained dogs is the next best thing. As an addition to a close protection or executive protection team, hell yes and well worth the money, time and effort.

No Love For The K9 EOD Badge

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

We received a couple of emails from readers in response to the post in the EOD K9 Badge by Tactical Gentleman. Apparently, at least one person thinks that SSD created it. Obviously, we did not. Which makes us think that the virtual torches have been lit and farm implements sharpened.

So, the internet outrage offers a good opportunity to discuss this issue. Based on other posts by SSD regarding EOD, we have come to appreciate that it is a very passionate careerfield. These two letters are obviously written from the heart but retain a professional tone; which is great. Not all of the comments on the original post share that trait.

We would like to make one clarification on the post. The EOD badge is shared by all of DoD as a qualification badge and has also been adopted across the EOD community to include civilian LE.

So what do you guys think? Do the writers have a legitimate complaint or are they being too sensitive?

k9patch

To whom it may concern,

Please remove the K9 EOD Badge from your website. There are no K9 EOD in any of the 4 services. This is very disrespectful to all my brothers and sister who have sacrificed there lives for this country. All of us earn that badge through blood, sweat, and tears. For you to so callously put K9 on top of our hard earned Basic EOD Badge makes my soul hurt. I will be forwarding you website to all my brothers and sisters so that they may openly voice how they feel about this product and its disrespect to our community.

Sincerely,

SSG HK
756th EOD Company

and

I understand the need for moral patches however by using the EOD badge as the basis for their badge (basically removing the star and using a paw) you are taking away from the moral of the EOD tech who earned it, the badge signifies the job of the EOD tech and each part of the badge has a purpose none of which are performed by dog handlers or bomb dogs. I would appreciate the removal of this patch thank you For your time.
