Blade Show 2017 – Nordic Pocket Saw

Sunday, June 4th, 2017

There are times when cutting wood with a hatchet isn’t appropriate, plus, depending on the size of what you can carry, it can be a lot of work. That’s why items like this Nordic Pocket Saw are so attractive. They don’t take up a lot of space, or weight (4.7 oz) and can be used to make clean cuts. The blade is quite similar to a chainsaw and to make it work, you run the blade around the opposite side of the wood you want to cut and, using the two nylon straps, pull the blade back and forth.

Blade Show 2017 – DDR Dominator

Sunday, June 4th, 2017

The Dominator is the latest from Darrel Ralph Designs. It’s a Midtech design featurimg a titanium framelock with a S35VN blade. It’s available in several designs and finishes.  It’s a great knife with a very smooth opening.  Like many of the craftsmen here at Blade Show, Darrel’s biggest problem seems to be keeping up with demand on the custom pieces.  I suppose that’s a blessing and a curse.

Blade Show 2017 – Utsidihi by RMJ Tactical

Sunday, June 4th, 2017

Ryan Johnson himself ran me through the new Utsidihi. I asked where the name came from and he explained that it is the Cherokee name for Man Killer. Right then and there I was hooked.

It’s made from a steel they’ve recently started using, Nitro-V which is a high performance stainless steel. It’s 1/8″ oversized in thickness and was designed as a simple, affordable, low profile knife at $175. It has a 3.25″ blade with optional serrations. As you can see, the skeletonized handle accepts 550 cord for those who want the added traction, but RMJ plans to offer a G10 handle kit you can add on.
