Once again, the Friday Focus series serves to introduce one of FirstSpear’s OEM partners. This time, it’s North Carolina-based Spartan Blades.
Curtis Iovito and Mark Carey, Co-Founders of Spartan Blades, LLC, possess over 40 years of combined military service and experience. Mark and Curtis have combined their shared love of knife making, military experience and knowledge of the tactical equipment market to form Spartan Blades, LLC with a singular mission:
Why did you choose Made in America?
All Spartan’s knives are made by us in North Carolina with only US origin materials. As retired Special Forces NCOs, we have spent a lifetime working to advance the interests of our country. Spartan Blades does the same by only manufacturing in the U.S.A. and partnering with companies that do the same like FirstSpear.
Why did you choose FirstSpear?
Actually, FS was the only company that could source the inner sheath material we required. Another manufacturer stopped making sheaths for us but neglected to tell us! They kept us hanging for several months telling us they were going to send us sheaths all while knowing that they were not going to sew for small OEM companies anymore. This of course left us in a bind until first Spear stepped in and saved the day for us. They are a great company!
Sparrows Lock Pick has, at special request, designed and built a set of three small survival blades, a mix between an arrowhead and a thumb dagger, for a select customer. After fulfilling the order, they were left with 166 sets, which they will soon be selling on their website.
The three blades are made of 440C steel, with a black stone wash. Small and sharp, the blades are designed to be pinched with fingers or tied onto an object. They come with a bit of paracord, a mini case, and a survival tin.

Meet the Rim Jack. It’s a collaboration between RMJ Tactical and American Kami meant as a special build to raise awareness and money for the Green Beret Foundation. The only way you’ll be able to score one of these is when they are in limited release for fundraisers.
Essentially, the Rim Jack is an Eagle Talon head increased 10% with an open bid at the blade. Naturally, it’s 100% Made in the USA. The .9″ thick handle offers G10 grips (laser engraved with both brands’ logos) with a .275″ thick head made from DLC coated S7. The head is held in place via a mortis and tenon attachment with proprietary screws.
Unveiled at SHOT Show, the new “Velos” Lapel Dagger/Tool will be shipping out to dealers next week.

Velos (Vee-Los) – a fitting name for this small lapel dagger-tool, Velos, is Greek for arrow or arrowhead. For students of history, the inspiration for this design is obvious; the OSS lapel daggers made famous in WWII. This everday carry (EDC) knife-tool can be worn around the neck or in a pocket. The Velo’s design makes it a comfortable everyday carry fixed blade with great ergonomics. The form fitted Kydex sheath comes with a stainless steel neck chain. Made of CPM 20CV, the knife holds an edge while resisting corrosion very well with 20% chromium and 1% vanadium. Handle has a flat-tip screwdriver and hex tool cut out that can be used when sheathed (sheath is handle).
