Marine South – Streamlight TLR-6

Monday, April 11th, 2016

Streamlight’s TLR-6 is designed specifically for use with subcompact semiauto pistols such as the Glock 26, 27, 33, 42, 43; M&P Shield 9 amd 40; Kimber Micro; SIG P238 and P938 as well as the wide variety of Kahr subcompact pistols. The way they do this is through a variety of housings that use the same light/laser module.  As you can see, the idea was to conform to these smaller frames as much as possible by connecting to the trigger guard.

The activation button of the 100 lumen pistol light is on either side of the TLR-6 and could be a reach for those with short fingers. To change modes from light to laser, you must push both buttons at once. However, the two 3v CR-1/3N lithium batteries provide one hour of dual 100 lumen light and laser mode. They can be swapped out without removing the light from the pistol. It is IPX4 water resistant to 1 meter.

Marine South – Darley Offers HSP D3CR Rig and Mission Spec Rigit

Monday, April 11th, 2016

Darley Defense is a contract holder for the Defense Logistics Agency’s Special Operations Tailored Logistics Program. TLS offers government organizations, including military units, to purchase commercial Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment via interagency funding transfer mechanisms. The various companies on TLS are under contract to DLA and the customer buys the items from DLA. As far as the unit is concerned, they are buying from the supply system but getting the latest and greatest from industry.

One of the items I noticed Darley had available was the Disruptive Environments Chest Rig from Haley Strategic Partners. This rig was designed for HSP by Darin Talbot aka Eggroll, and is quite popular. It’s adaptive to different loads and is Berry compliant. The D3CR can be worn via its H-harness or, using SwiftClips attached directly to an armor vest.

The D3CR will accept AR type magazines as well as AK 7.62 x39mm and 5.45 x 39 magazines. The Multi-Mission Pouches accept 1911, Glock, Sig, M&P, XD and other standard double or single stack pistol magazines, as well as many handheld lights and multi-tools.  There are also two flapped GP pouches in either side but something you won’t see on any other chest rigs out there is the STUFFIT pouch which accepts a wide variety of odd-sized loads.

They’ve paired it with the Rigit from Mission Spec, a PALS adapter for armor carriers which offers SwiftClip QD mount points for rigs like the D3CR and others such as those offered by Mayflower.

This video gives you an idea of how the Rigit works.

While I know units have ordered a lot of different items over the years, this one hadn’t crossed my mind as something a unit might purchase via TLS. It serves as a great example and just goes to show how responsive TLS to the needs of its customers.

Marine South – Aardvark Project 7

Monday, April 11th, 2016

Aardvark’s System 7 debuted at SHOT Show but that venue is so big I didn’t get a chance to check it out. That’s why I attend so many smaller, regional shows. You never know what cool item you’ll get to see.

The System 7 armor vest is manufactured by Safariland’s Protech exclusively for Aardvark and incorprates all of the latest technologies like laser cut, laminated materials from Blue Force Gear and Tubes from FirstSpear.

The carrier is available with Velcro closure or Tubes.  You might also notice the angled laser cut PALS slots.  Aardvark says that internal testing has shown that this Angled MOLLE field is stronger in pull testing than more traditional horizontal slots.

The are numerous soft armor packages available for the vest from Safariland. Naturally, hard armor plates are also available but interestingly, they load into the carrier from the top.  Additionally, Aardvark offers removable upper arm, groin and throat armor to be used in conjunction with the base vest.

Above and below you can see the front and rear of the MultiCam and OD versions of the armor vest although Black versions are also available.

When the Siege lantern first came out from Streamlight, I had a chance to try it out and it quickly became a must-have for camping trips. This year, they’ve introduced a new model called the Super Siege by upping the lumens to 1,100 and incorporating an 8800 mAh rechargeable lithium ion battery with USB ports for power in as well as out. You can charge the lamp or use it to power other devices such as cell phones.

There are five LEDs (one White and four Red). There are six output modes including Red SOS as well as a battery indicator. The Super Siege also incorporates a “Glare Guard” which can be used to shield up to half of the globe to direct light. There is also a watertight storage compartment in the base.

Marine South – Quantico Tactical / Ashbury Precision Ordnance

Sunday, April 10th, 2016

There were several of DLA’s Special Operations Tailored Logistics Systems vendors at Marine South. Quantico Tactical was one of them, and they also have several retail outlets across the country. They had all kinds of cool stuff in their booth but one of the things I wanted to point out to my readers is that they are offering Ashbury Precision Ordnance‘s line of products. One of these items is the RSTA-II Shooting Tripod Head.

The 1.1 pound RSTA-II Tripod Head allows users to position long guns using the Rapid Control Handle (RCH) which can be set up for either right or left hand control. This versatile tripod head provides a positive locking ±35 degree head that can securely hold a 25+lbs long gun using a 6 o’clock accessory rail grabber, Pig Saddle or APO AnyPoint Bipod/Tripod Mount.
