British Army Survival Guide to be Published

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

UK-based Random House imprint Century has purchased world rights, including serial, for a survival-style handbook written by the British Army called “Be the Best at Just About Everything”. Set to be released in October, topics include how to survive an avalanche, cross a crocodile infested swamp, drink from a cactus or iron the perfect shirt. The book will promoted by the Army’s recruiting service with the PR campaign to include serving soldiers in the roles of “ordinary people doing extraordinary things”.

Tim Andrews, Century commissioning editor, said: “The British Army is a unique military institution, one that has constantly evolved and transformed itself and rightly has an international reputation as a prestigious, innovative and heroic organisation. This book reflects those values, and will be one of the most original, entertaining – and useful – gift books of the year, and a dead-cert Christmas present for fathers and sons up and down the country.”

Don’t Tell Mom I Got Shot

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

This story comes to us from SSD friend Steven Bronson (USN Ret) and is about his son who was shot while serving with the US Marines in Afghanistan. He told me this fascinating story right after it happened and, as you will see in the retelling below, that young man owes a lot to Trijicon.

US Army Launches Soldier Blog App

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

The Army launched a new recruiting tool Monday in the form of a free iPhone app which gives users access to over 600 Soldier blogs as well as the usual melange of “Army Strong” photos, stories and videos.

Unfortunately, no one told the Army that the New York Times, just two weeks ago declared that blogging is, yet again dead. Apparently, blogging has been waylayed by Facebook or Twitter, at least for the casual blogger.

However, if you are still interested, feel free to support milblogging and download Army Strong Stories for the Jesus phone.

Battle: LA Promo

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Tactical Fanboy picked up something very interesting in the new Battle: LA poster for the upcoming sci-fi flick that pits US Marines against ETs bent on world domination.

Smack dab in the middle of the poster is a Source Hydration pack. At least they won’t suffer from dehydration amid death rays and terminator-like machines crushing humans.
