Rolly Mini Toothbrush

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

6packNR2

I first got to look at this product during SOMA 2013 and I really like the idea. Rolly Mini Toothbrush is billed as ‘The World’s Smallest Toothbrush’. Available in a 6-pack, non-reflective blister, Rolly is similar in size to a small mint, hands-free, and requires no water, making it ideal for Soldiers in the field. Rolly utilizes fluoride and a sugar-free mint flavored containing Xylitol, a non-fermentable sugar alcohol flavoring clinically proven to fight cavities. You get filthy in the field and the guys who carry toothbrushes will tell you that they end up as ridden with bacteria. It can almost be worse than having no brush at all. That’s why I think is definitely worth considering at the unit level. Having clean teeth isn’t just a health issue, it’s also a serious morale boost.

Fight And Flight Tactical – T.A.S.K.

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014

photogrid_1370444342727

The T.A.S.K. (Tactical Ass Scrubbing Kit) is quite possibly the only non-disposable tactical body cleanser currently on the market. Constructed from 8mm antimicrobial spacer mesh, the T.A.S.K. fits standard-sized soap bars, although it also works well with just slivers of soap and even liquid soap, and facilitates a thick lather to wash away dirt and grime, while inhibiting bacterial growth. Includes 6″ webbing loop for hanging out to dry, use at a field sanitation station, or simply for retention.

Available in Black and Tan.

MDM – Expeditionary Hygiene System

Thursday, September 26th, 2013

The Expeditionary Hygiene System was designed for use by personnel who find themselves without readily available laundry services to do it for themselves. All too often in combat conditions, more personnel succumb to illness and other hygiene related injuries than enemy fire. Taking a look at this system you can tell that the inventor took a look at the various field expedient means deployed troops use to wash their clothing and adapted a product to these techniques.

20130926-090227.jpg

It can be used as a Field Laundry System, Shower Bag and Waterproof Bag. Lets face it, it’s obvious this is a modified waterproof bag. In fact, it’s an 8 gal model and weighs in at 6.5 oz.

You can use it as a Field Shower by filling it with water, suspending it in the sun above head level to warm up and then using it. The pull valve can be used to control water flow. Sure, it’s not going to be a hot shower in a 5-star hotel but after a few days in the bush, it’s great to wash the dirt off.

Finally, the EHS can be used as a Field Laundry. The user places his clothing into the bag along with .5gal of water along with bio-degradable soap. After rolling the closure shut the clothing can be kneaded on a hard surface in order to dislodge dirt from the clothing. After a few minutes, the pull valve is removed and the dirty water allowed to drain. Next, the bag is swung windmill fashion to fully drain as much soap as possible. Finally, two rinse cycles with clean water are recommended. The EHS creator recommends that the user only wash underclothing and socks so as to conserve water and make the process quick.

Outdoor Retailer – BioLite

Next month, BioLite will officially launch the KettlePot but you’re getting a sneak peek thanks to Outdoor Retailer. Unlike other pots on the market, the BioLite KettlePot is made from Stainless Steel but they’ve developed a process to stretch it to be super thin so it will heat more quickly. Additionally, it can be used as a kettle or pot.

It includes a BPA-free top and cool-touch silicone handles. What I really like about it, the KettlePot cradles the BioLite stove for storage and transport.

Zip from UK-based Standard Brands is a biofuel fire starter. It uses compressed organic oils with high caloric value. It is lightweight, nonpoisonous and nonhazardous. It’s also air portable. To get it started you just light the bioplastic wrapper. The wrapper also incorporates micro pours that allow moisture to escape yet keep the Zip dry inside. At $1.50 per pack of 8 this is a good deal.
