The Role

We are hiring a business operations director. This position involves office management, contract oversight, project management, financial planning and operations, and limited executive-level support.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in tracking and overseeing a wide range of projects that are operational and support-related in nature. This person must be able to work independently with little or no supervision, be detail oriented, and determine prioritization of tasks while being exceedingly well organized and flexible. This person must also enjoy the challenges of supporting a company made up of highly motivated people. The candidate must have the ability to work with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and effective. The highest levels of professionalism, attention to detail, and productivity are crucial to this.

This is a full-time position. While the company is based in Washington, DC, the only location requirement for our employees is that they live (and have the right to work) in the United States.

Main Responsibilities

• Coordinate the compilation, analysis, and summarization of financial, administrative, and operational data with the ability to make sound decisions and act on them.

• Effectively design reports, manuals, presentations, and agendas for external and internal meetings.

• Develop and implement standardized practices for routine business tasks.

• Manage a busy virtual and in-person (once the pandemic ends) office with a shared collaborative work environment. Must have the ability to manage budgets, expenses, vendors, logistics, and equipment.

• Reconcile expense reports and process invoice payments. Ensure that all invoice and expenses are valid and correct. Reconcile any expense discrepancies. Maintain accurate records and coordinate closely with company bookkeepers.

• Monitor and report on compliance with contracts and grants.

• Event planning, to include budgets, travel arrangements, registrations, and accommodations. Arrange travel and related requirements including conference registrations and hotel accommodations.

• Develop and prepare monthly and quarterly management reports for use by the leadership team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in relevant training, education, and experience.

• Experience in office management, business operations, and executive support.

• Proven record of integrity.

• Detailed understanding of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and especially Excel.

• Proven record of making persuasive and effective presentations and communications.

• Must demonstrate the ability to employ tact and diplomacy to foster amicable business relations with a wide range of individuals, within and outside the company.

• Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be able to act with a sense of urgency, and desire to contribute to the growth of the company.

Profile:

Clawgear is seeking two Product Development Specialists / Engineers / Designers for the development of tactical nylon products, such as pouches, bags, vests, backpacks, ballistic protection, slings and more. The job requirements are broad-ranging and demanding so we don’t expect to find one person with all the listed qualifications. However, with two new colleagues, we hope to cover the workload and responsibilities of the nylon equipment R&D team.

Responsibilities:

• Work in the R&D team, from concept through design, prototyping, testing, sourcing and manufacturing of technical military and LE nylon products, in a highly interdisciplinary environment.

• Innovate, create and adapt practical and functional solutions to fit the client.

• Transform concepts and ideas into prototypes either through our sample makers or directly using our extensive sewing machine park for sampling.

• Set the quality standard for Tier One tactical equipment.

• Responsible for meeting price points through the knowledge of sourcing raw materials, overseas manufacturing and design solutions.

• Participate in practical field testing of equipment and establishing test criteria/procedures. Using feedback from mainly SOF operators to finetune the product concept.

• Design the necessary tools or molds for new product parts.

• Present design ideas as sketches or drawings.

• Create technical production patterns and consumption lists.

• Cutting materials for prototyping on a laser cutter.

• Test materials for desired characteristics.

• Working with great attention to detail and ability to handle more than one project at a time, at times under stress to meet non-negotiable deadlines.

• Participate in international trade shows, some domestic and international travel required.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in creative product design or development. Ability to apply aesthetic sense and knowledge of ergonomics to the products.

• A high level of creativity, enthusiasm for design and technical proficiency is a must.

• Ability to envision and work through a project from start to finish.

• Knowledge of technical textiles and of other materials used in tactical nylon equipment. Experience in fabric development is a plus.

• Knowledge of the requirements of military use of tactical nylon equipment as well as having had relevant military experience is a plus.

• Knowledge of nylon products construction techniques, such as in bags and pouches, patterns and pattern making is required. Experience in garment construction is a plus.

• Experience with Far East production and sourcing of raw materials.

• Experience with 3D CAD design, preferably Autocad, Fusion 360, Inventor or Lectra software.

• Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is a big plus.

• Knowledge of Word and Excel is required, as well as a general knowledge of computers.

• Ability to learn other software.

• Hands-on problem-solving skills are desired.

• Ability to study, absorb and apply technical knowledge in interdisciplinary product development. Ability to apply mathematics to solve design problems.

• Ability to work with a team as well as in an individual setting.

• Ability to speak and write English fluently. Other language skills are a plus, especially German.

• Experience with sewing machines is a plus, as well as laser cutting equipment.

• Knowledge of tool making and molds is a plus.

• While we do not require any university degree for this position, we do look favourably on relevant education or degree, such as a degree in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Management, Project Management or similar relevant education. However, we also do acknowledge that the special skill set for this position may come in the form of a self-taught talented person with the right attitude and experience. For the purpose of selection, we would like to see some examples or verifiable references to previous projects done by the applicant.

Corporate Office: Southern Pines, NC

• May not require an on-site presence.

• Responsible for driving XGO® branded sales in the military, government, and other extended military – government retail channels.

• Sales Targets: New Business Development within existing Distributor Channels – TLS and all other Distributors; National Guard; and, International

• Implement & recommend strategic business plans for the XGO brand related to relevant markets, including sales and marketing.

• Mange and direct sales activity with key distributors to achieve corporate sales objectives.

• Maintain high visibility and interaction with DOD, DLA, Natick, and key end user decision makers to locate and close significant business opportunities.

• Maintain a constant interface and develop/maintain relationships with government procurement and research personnel to ensure relevance of XGO product and fabric mix is in accordance with their current and evolving needs

• To communicate emerging trends in the industry and markets into product development plans

• Develop new and nurture existing relationships with XGO distributors in the United States and internationally to include/increase the relevance of XGO within their product mix and increase overall global sales of XGO.

o Attend trade shows (i.e. SHOT, SOFIC, Modern Day Marine, and others.) for the purpose of growing XGO’s brand recognition, supporting XGO distributors, while maintaining an ongoing interface with procurement personnel to remain cognizant of relevant sales/contract opportunities.

• New projects as required.

Desired Skill & Experience:

• 3+ years sales and business development experience with federal and military customers

• 3+ years International Sales and Management experience

• 5+ years outside sales experience

• BS degree strongly preferred

• Prior Military Experience (active/reserve, honorable discharge) strongly preferred

• Strong understanding guidelines necessary to conduct business with GSA, TLS, and DOD E-mall.

• Ability to cold call new customers and/or develop new markets and opportunities.

• Existing relationships with customers, markets, distributors, and programs.

• Strong communication skills are required to interact with various company departments, managers, and employees.

• Self-starter with experience to manage travel schedule, customer meetings, tradeshows, and or other sales and budgetary requirements
