You May Be Able To Save A Life

Tuesday, April 24th, 2018

I received this note from a friend earlier today.

We’re looking for ethnic Korean donors to help save a dear friend’s life. If you were a Marine posted at Quantico there’s a good chance you received dental care from Naval Dentist Lt. Julie Jung. Post-military she provided free dental care to children from low-income families and child victims of trafficking and violence. Lt. Jung was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia in January (AML with FLT3 mutation) and urgently needs to find a bone marrow donor match. Julie’s life expectancy is only 2 months after her last round of Chemo which she is starting soon.  Her husband Lt. Cmdr Jung is still active duty.  Unfortunately, matches usually come from someone’s own ethnic group. If you have any Korean in your ancestry, please join the donor registry to see if you are a match at https://join.bethematch.org/fl. A testing kit will be sent to your home, and all you need to do is swab the inside of your cheek and send

the kit back. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Michael R. Rodriguez Named Director Of Global War On Terror Memorial Foundation

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 9, 2018 – Global War on Terror Memorial Foundation (GWOTMF), the congressionally-designated non-profit foundation tasked with organizing, fundraising and coordinating efforts to build a new memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., today announced that Michael “Rod” Rodriguez will serve as its Director.

In his new role, Rodriguez is tasked with refining strategic initiatives for the Foundation while maintaining partner and donor relationships, and nurturing new ones.

“Following Congress’ approval of the Global War on Terrorism War Memorial Act in August, the Foundation now faces an exciting new future as we move toward site selection and the 24-step process for establishing a national memorial in the nation’s capital,” said David Burke, president of the GWOTMF Board of Trustees. “Rod has been an active member of our Board of Trustees for the past 18 months. With his institutional knowledge and extensive background, we are confident that he is ideally positioned to lead the Foundation through the vital steps that lie ahead.”

Rodriguez served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, 15 of which were as a Special Forces Green Beret. He sits on the advisory council for President George W. Bush’s Military Service Initiative and is the Executive Ambassador for the Green Beret Foundation. In addition to his own service, Rodriguez’s wife served for 21 years in the U.S. Army and his eldest son recently returned home from Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division, marking the Rodriguez family’s 16th deployment.

Over the months ahead, Rodriguez will lead the Foundation in advocating for land within the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

“Together we have an opportunity to honor all those who have selflessly served in our nation’s longest war and educate all Americans and visitors to this country on the ever-evolving, multi-generational conflict. This honor and privilege is a charge we do not take lightly,” said Rodriguez. “In the view of the Foundation, it is imperative that a memorial befitting everyone who served in the longest war of our 242-year history, and all who support them, be conspicuously placed on America’s front yard.”

Go Commando Show – Episode 40: Dr Brett Haake Performing a Stem Cell Procedure on Fred Galvin

Monday, April 9th, 2018

We recently introduced you to the Go Commando Show which featured an interview with SGM Rob Trivino (USA, Ret). If you missed it, go back and listen in.

However, in this latest episode, Dr Brett Haake performs a stem cell procedure on host Fred Galvin’s knees. So many of us have bad knees after our service that I thought this would be some great information. Fred tells me the procedure was six weeks ago and feels the results have been great.

Dr Haake explains the risks and rewards of stem cell and platelet rich plasma therapy. He is an Anesthesiologist, Stem Cell Physician and former Navy Medical officer who deployed to Afghanistan and multiple countries in Asia.

For those of you who just want to listen to the podcast, visit www.gocommandoshow.com.
