SIG MPX

January 11th, 2013

According to Sig Sauer, the SIG MPX is the world’s first submachine gun that operates with a fully closed and locked rotating bolt system. It is a gas-operated short stroke piston system and allows the shooter to change barrel length, caliber and stock configuration in the field to meet mission requirements. Additionally, they claim that it is easily convertible to 9mm NATO, .357SIG or .40S&W. But to me, one of the big advantages is that you are getting AR-style ergonomics.

North Eastern Arms Introduces Compact Carbine Stock

January 11th, 2013

North Eastern Arms is a firearms manufacturer in Canada is set to release the new Compact Carbine Stock. It’s the first drop-in stock system for the AR for direct impingement guns that significantly reduces the length. Their 7.5” PDW AR is almost 2” shorter than a MP5A5 collapsed to give you some idea of how short it is.

Initially, it will be available to Law Enforcement and military only to start due to demand. Unfortunately, the company reps weren’t able to go into the internal mechanism of operation on this until it’s officially released on display at IWA 2013 in Germany, but they did say that it is a complete drop-in unit, and significantly improves the reliability of the return system of the AR design.

LAPD SIS Pioneers Mobile Apprehension and Develops New Armor System with SOTech

January 11th, 2013

LAPD’s SIS (Special Investigation Section) is legendary for apprehending the most dangerous felons on their city’s streets. Now, their new equipment package developed with SOTech is available for other agencies. Below is what SOTech has to say about this new armor and pouch system.

cobra-sis-ad-new

SOTech’s design staff are honored to develop an armor carrier for a progressive approach to law enforcement suspect apprehension being pioneered and perfected by LAPD’s renowned Special Investigation Section- SIS. The soft and hard armor carrier and specified pouch and go bags are part of a system designed to allow a plain clothes officer in mobile surveillance mode to rapidly don his/her tactical gear, dismount the vehicle and chase down and apprehend the suspected criminal. The game changer here is that the entire ensemble is designed around mobility. The system is not only designed for rapid donning in the tight confines of a surveillance vehicle, but the vest is designed for mobility and dexterity during confrontations. The days of the raid jacket are over as the modern urban environment requires up to ceramic plate rifle round protection. Conventional law enforcement procedures saw a detective in a jacket approach a suspect, now replaced by a bulky protective vest. The only other option was a heavily armored and encumbered SWAT team that could apprehend an armed suspect after that suspect was cornered in a static location where SWAT could set up a perimeter. SIS developed and perfected tactics to break out of that box, tracking the suspect and apprehending him or her on the move. SOTech designers spent months working with members of the elite LAPD unit, customizing the rigs around their deployment of weapons, auto glass breachers, distraction devices, bandoleers and other tools in well-choreographed foot and vehicle take downs. For the past 15 years we at SOTech have been lucky to be in Los Angeles working with LAPD SIS. They have a well-deserved world-wide reputation for surveillance and tactics. And it’s been an amazing experience working with them as they identified such a significant tactical gap, developed radical-thinking tactics, and then perfected them to the standard of a major metropolitan department such as LAPD. Numerous Los Angeles area departments are already looking at adapting these TTPs, and we expect to see detective bureaus and narcotics divisions world-wide adapt to the program. As professionals, SOTech won’t discuss the intricacies of the tactics, but we will assist law enforcement professionals who have equipment/tactical inquires coordinate with the POC at LAPD SIS.

The SIS developers will be on hand at SHOT Show and will be periodically available at the SOTECH booth #20113 to discuss their system and tactics with interested law enforcement professionals. Please email Jim@SpecOpsTech.com to coordinate a meeting time during SHOT.

January 11th, 2013

Patagonia Jungle Uniform

This is very exciting news from Patagonia and Elite Defense. For the past few years Patagonia has been responsible developing and producing USSOCOM’s Protective Combat Uniform, a 9 level ensemble of environmental and field clothing items. Every once in awhile pieces have become available on eBay or at surplus outlets but, outside of program, we haven’t been able to purchase these garments. Now, you’ll be able to get not only the Level 9 Combat Uniform but also a Jungle Uniform (seen above) as well in addition to other pieces such as the level 3a jacket just adopted by SOCOM. The Level 9 garment features an innovative kneepad system (below) we have written about in the past and offers both combat and field shirt options.

We are prepared for an incredibly successful launch at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, NV.”

“Adding an internationally known brand like Patagonia to our portfolio is exciting; there has been a buzz about it since we started making all the right steps to pull this partnership together and bring it to market.” said Brett Westcott, Vice President of Business Development & Marketing at Elite Defense.

The level 9 combat uniform will be the first of many products that will be brought to commercial market space; the team anticipates a new jungle style uniform as well as a commercial variant of the PCU 3 Alpha Jacket to be ready for delivery in the second Quarter of calendar year 2013. All of the offerings are Berry Complaint to meet the needs of the US DoD and other domestic agencies. The distribution agreement includes a dealer network that is equipped to handle multiple Government contract mechanisms to support that customer base.

“Patagonia has been a go-to for top tier design and development services to the SOF community for over a decade, and has long supported the soldier” Says Eric Neuron, Patagonia’s Director of Strategic Product. “We are very excited to make available these innovative products commercially, and further that support.
