WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (May 23, 2017) – Colt, the historic class-leading designer, developer, and manufacturer of firearms, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of national shooting sports competitor Wyatt Gibson. “Wyatt is an exceptional young talent,” said Paul Spitale, SVP at Colt. “His drive and determination exemplifies what the shooting sports mean to Colt. He sets a great example for young folks who want to get into competitive shooting, and we are so proud to bring him into the fold here with Team Colt.”

Gibson was introduced to the firearms industry at a young age by his father and grandfather, and helped as they tested target designs for MGM Targets. From there his love, familiarity, and proficient with firearms grew, and he had competed in his first USPSA match before the age of seven.

“Competitive shooting is in my blood,” said Gibson. “I grew up with firearms, and I pour my time, effort, and heart into the shooting sports. When Paul and the folks at Colt offered me the opportunity to shoot for Team Colt I was honored. My defensive pistol game is really strong thanks to my 9mm Gold Cup® Trophy – the way it sits in my hand is amazing. And I’ve relied on Colt AR-15® platform rifles for much of my shooting career. Nothing beats the real thing!”

Gibson regularly competes on a national level in 3 Gun competitions and occasionally in United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) action pistol matches. His recent wins include: MGM Ironman 2015-2016, Northwest Multigun Challenge 2016, Surefire World Multigun 2016, and 3 Gun Nation Texas Regional. Gibson placed third overall on the Sportsman Channel program The Big Gun II: Sin City.

Stay tuned to Colt for more info on Wyatt Gibson’s upcoming matches and appearances.

Colt Announces the New Cobra Double-Action Revolver

Sunday, May 7th, 2017

IMG_1536

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (May 5, 2017) – Colt, historic manufacturer of what many have heralded as the finest double-action revolvers ever made, is excited to announce its re-entry into the market with the release of the Cobra®. The all stainless steel small frame revolver features the classic lines of a traditional Colt double-action revolver, along with some great upgrades and modernizations, including Colt’s new LL2™ (Linear Leaf spring, version 2) trigger spring which offers a premium trigger pull experience without the need for hand-fitting.

“The bar was set so high,” said Paul Spitale, SVP for Colt, referring to the legacy of fine double-action revolvers in Colt’s history. “And the team in Colt’s Innovation Center really knocked this one out of the park. The grip was moved rearward to not only allow for more comfort and recoil control, but this also opened up the trigger guard area to allow for a flatter, more intuitive feeling trigger, as well as easy use with gloved hands. The trigger pull is phenomenal. The feel of this trigger both in the hand and when measured by a computer is very favorable to, and some might say better than, the triggers in Colt’s legacy double-action revolvers.”

The Cobra® was designed for concealed carry, with its 2” barrel and .38 Special chambering. “To offer new shooters a rewarding experience, we focused on the manageable .38 Special round,” said Spitale. “We want folks to be equally comfortable carrying this great firearm for defense and enjoying it at the range with family and friends.”

The new Cobra® is available in .38 Special (+P capable), has a six round capacity, and features a 2” barrel, all stainless steel construction to aid in recoil mitigation, and a Colt branded rubber grip. The Cobra® also features a user-upgradable fiber optic front sight. The sight can be easily swapped by the user to the available aftermarket tritium night sight. The Cobra® is now shipping; it has a SKU of COBRA-SM2FO, and an MSRP of $699.

Gold Cup Series 70 - Copy

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 13, 2017) – Colt, the company whose Gold Cup® has long been the pinnacle of performance in the world of competitive shooting, is pleased to announce the next generation Gold Cup® Trophy. Updated to meet the desires of today’s elite shooters, the pistol is a modern take on the stalwart classic performance firearm that has helped so many competitive shooters achieve victory over the past century.

“We started the development of the new Gold Cup® Trophy when I decided to compete in the Bianchi Cup,” said Mark Redl, Team Colt Shooter and Product Manager for Colt. “Everything about this pistol was designed to make it an affordable option for the professional competitor to engage in the most elite shooting match in the world. We started with our standard Gold Cup® Trophy and upgraded it in the same ways that many enthusiasts and professionals do as they ship their beloved firearm around the country for costly specialty services. Now, for the cost of perhaps one or two of these services, you can buy a brand new Gold Cup® with the upgrades right from the factory.”

This new Gold Cup® features Colt’s competition ergonomics, including an undercut trigger guard and upswept beavertail grip safety, and Colt’s Dual Spring Recoil System™ for improved recoil mitigation. Factory 25 LPI checkering on the front and rear strap of the grip, along with Colt branded blue G10 grips complete the stabilization package. Competitors will appreciate the firing system, which is now the Colt Series 70™ system, which reduces the number of moving parts in the trigger assembly, as well as reduces the length and weight of the trigger pull.

“Another big change for this model is that along with the traditional .45 ACP, it’s also available in 9mm,” said Redl. “The whole package makes this a really appealing handgun for world class competitors.” The new Gold Cup® Trophy is available in 9mm (SKU: O5072XE) and .45 ACP (O5070XE), and has an MSRP of $1,699.
