Hill People Gear Highlander

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

The Hill People Gear Highlander is designed to serve dual duty as a compression panel using the optional Compression Kit or as a stand alone backpack with a single zip design similar to the Tarahumara.

It can be mounted to a variety of frames as a compression panel including those from Kifaru and as well as the old external frame from Dana Designs. Additionally, it has a padded back and can be worn alone using an optional harness. Below, you can see the Compression Kit.

The Highlander will be available in late April in Ranger Green, Coyote, and Foliage Green starting at $135. Shoulder harnesses and Compression Kits will also be available in all three colors. For more info visit www.hillpeoplegear.com.

Modularity comes to Hill People Gear in the form of the new Recon Kit Bag. Hill People Gear has never been about tactical. Instead, they make kit for back country living. But, after numerous requests from those in the SAR community for some modularity, they relented and decided to add some PALS to their popular Runners Kit Bag chest mounted pouch. If you like the convenience of the Kit Bag, think of all of the options available with the addition of PALS.

Not a word is spoken in this video showcasing Hill People Gear’s growing product range but words aren’t needed to send the message that they have developed a living system. I have many of their products and I’ll tell you, I’m a believer. Their range is great for the outdoorsman or adventurer who wants to keep it light and simple. There’s something refreshing about spending time that way in the wild and Hill People Gear has certainly captured that spirit.

Hill People Gear Mountain Serapes

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Although Hill People Gear continues to tease us with tidbits of info about their Mountain Serape, it looks like there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

The Mountain Serape is based on the tried and true poncho design but HPG has added a hood, drawstring, and unique (patent pending) zipper arrangement that turns it into a greatcoat or a half zip sleeping bag. Designed to be thrown on in cold weather when you stop moving or when lying up, it can also be used as a warmer weather sleeping bag or in conjunction with a bag to increase its range. Additionally, this is a great product for survival use or for conditions where packing light is a necessity.

Weighing in at only 34 ounces, it features a DWR coated mini ripstop face fabric with 2.4oz primaloft fusion insulation. The Mountain Serape is available for pre-order in Foliage or Coyote.

Raven VanGuard

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Hill People Gear has been offering the Raven VanGuard for some time now and I am intrigued with the concept. Available for both the Glock and M&P, the VanGuard was originally envisioned by Shay VanVlymen of Mindset Laboratory and manufactured by Raven Concealment Systems. It is designed to protect a pistol’s trigger from accidental squeeze while being stored in non-holster carriers such as day or fanny packs. The VanGuard is tethered so that during the draw it will pull free from the trigger guard. Hill People Gear sells them for use with their Kit Bags and Runner’s Kit Bags, but the VanGuard looks like it would be a good pairing with many carry options.
