Over a decade ago, Outdoor Research developed the Modular Glove System for USSOCOM. In the ensuing years, there have been upgrades to not only that system but to protective handwear across the board. One of those improvements is the introduction of options. Rather than a one-size-fits-all system, the concept of choices and a menu-based system has become popular. Now, OR has released a new handwear system with more options than ever.
This brochure from OR gives you a good overview of their latest Modular Glove System. The concept is that users will be able to choose which handwear best suits their operational requirememts rather than issuing a large kit to everyone.
Outdoor Research has debuted a new jacket in WL Gore & Associates’ new Topo fabric. Topo features a stretchable membrane.
The jacket has an articulated, close fit in order to bring the jacket’s Gore membrane closer to the body where it will work better. The Brown segments you see are Topo and allow the jacket to stretch when you layer up for colder temps, yet keep the jacket as close to the body as possible in order to move the perspiration out through the membrane.
You can place order now in MultiCam and Coyote.
Outdoor Research, in collaboration with W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (Gore), has introduced the Muzzle Brake Blouse and Muzzle Brake Pants – a new uniform concept using GORE® Advanced Combat Fabric (ACF) – a high strength, durably fast drying, highly air permeable fabric that meets the no melt/no drip requirement of the Department of Defense. With more military personnel rotating through Pacific and hot climate regions, the innovative design of the two styles combined with the unique textile will assist with maintaining comfort, while offering optimal performance when exposed to the temperatures and humidity levels in these areas.

The pedigree of the Fieldcraft Cap by Outdoor Research is obvious to the tactical crowd, but it’s a new addition to their commercial line.
Make sure you stop by OR’s booth in order to check out the new Muzzle Brake and Breech jungle uniforms available For order, starting today.
Both use OR’s Hybrid Mapped design technology and incorporate Insect Shield protection. The pocket are low profile in order to be used in conjunction with armor and packs. However, the Muzzle Brake is made from WL Gore’s new “jungle” fabric that we told you about during SOFIC, with knit stretch panels at the wrists, underarm, crotch and back yoke while the Breech is made from a stretchy spandex/nylon blend fabric reinforced with Superfabric at the elbows, knees and seat. Additionally, the Muzzle Brake is a more traditional blouse and trouser design whereas the Breech consists of a long sleeved shirt and trouser. Both are currently available in MultiCam but I have also seen a MARPAT Woodland variant of the Muzzle Brake.
As the incumbent for USSOCOM Modular Glove System, Outdoor Research is well positioned to create the next generation of protective handwear.
OR gave us a sneak peek of their RFI submission. While it’s not the full lineup, above we can see a contact glove, fleece liner, wind liner, glove shell and three finger mitten. Colors are prototype and not final and there are some new materials integrated into these designs.
