OR – Patagonia Announces The Forge

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Patagonia related to us at OR Summer Market that they are developing a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art R&D facility focusing on military products as well vector styles. The Forge will not only focus on styles, but also materials and construction techniques and will also be able to rapid prototype new products. This will be a boon to both military clothing programs such as SOCOM’s Protective Combat Uniform, currently designed by Patagonia as well as cutting edge outdoor styles. Both markets will greatly benefit from this initiate.

Patagonia Slingshot in Coyote

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

The Slinghsot was a component of the Military Advanced Regulator System (MARS) military clothing system. A lightweight softshell, it has a bit of stretch built in. It is treated with a good DWR so light rain rolls right off. Two angled bicep pockets feature Velcro for insignia and the collar is lined with fleece. Finally, there are two deep pockets in the chest to warm hands or store essentials. Currently sizes Small – XX-Large are in stock. The torso is true to size with plenty of room for base layers but some may find the sleeves a bit short and also be aware that the cuff is elasticized. At $90 it is a smokin’ deal so these won’t be around for long at this price. Order at www.Patagonia.com.

Patagonia to Offer Alpha Green

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Patagonia is going to offer Alpha Green as a color option for their Fall 10 line up. I know it’s a way off but start saving your pennies if you want to put together a more modern version of MARS or just update some of the pieces in the kit you already have.

More on PCU Level 9 – Well Sorta

Friday, September 11th, 2009

*Updated* I received a call the other day asking of I had seen the new Patagonia Combat Uniforms. I hadn’t and the last word I had received was that Patagonia was out of the contract game. But just when you think Patagonia has called it quits, they up and release new military products. Apparently, some prototypes of a hard shell were produced in Viet Nam and photos of this garment’s tag have shown up on the web incorrectly purporting to be from a Level 9 garment. But really this is just the tip of the iceberg. The plan is to develop an entirely new Berry compliant clothing system and most of it is already done. Apparently however, the combat uniform piece is still in development and won’t be the same as the PCU Level 9. The whole system is sort of a “Son of MARS” only leveraging the latest Patagonia technology. Prototypes of several of the pieces are floating around some of the units already so it won’t be long before we see photos.

Patagonia did participate in the development of the Level 9 component of PCU which is produced under contract by Ready One. Thus far, all currently issued PCU components carry a Patagonia tag and the new Level 9 garment will as well. Commercial versions of Level 9 are currently available from Beyond Tactical.

We are hoping to see photos soon and wondering how much they will go for once they hit eBay.

Thanks to Rob for confusing the hell out of me.

Please note that these are not the full cut styles found in MARS but rather a slim cut version so most will want to go up at least one size.

Patagonia Guidewater Shirt in UCP

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Patagonia

Although designed for the commercial market, the Guidewater Shirt’s 30 SPF fabric comes from soft shell work done on ECWCS Gen III. Although, it is intended as a fishing shirt, it may be just the thing some of our readers are seeking. Inherently wind and water resistant, the 4-way stretch nylon with DWR (durable water repellent) breathes as well helping to avoid overheating. Tabs secure rolled sleeves and the shirt features one zippered and one velcro chest pocket.

Patagonia Surf Brim

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Patagonia

In the past we have published articles about equipment for MAROPS. Riding around in a Zodiac can get pretty hot and sunburn is always a threat. It would seem the the boonie hat is the perfect solution but oftentimes they blow off of your head and usually end up floating away. We recently ran across the Patagonia Surf Brim. Other than the fact that it has a short brim, built in DWR (durable water repellent) and a floatable brim, it won’t blow away due to its unique neoprene headband, a tuck-away chin strap, and an adjustable rear buckle.
