There are three variants of the Sons Trauma Kit.
Originally designed to fit in the plate pocket of an armor vest the initial military variant was soon augmented with an LE version. Not long ago they realized you could carry the Sons Trauma Kit in the hydration sleeve of a backpack and the hunter/outdoorsman model was born.
The Hoplite is a simple patented hinged aperture control that mounts in place of the NVG’s sacrificial lens and allows the user to switch between near and far focus at a simple flick.

Phokus has introduced two new LE variants of their Sons Trauma Kit. Still designed to be stored in the plate pocket of the armor vest behind the plate, these Sons models are designated LETK -2 and LETK-3.
Contents are slightly different based on which model you select. The big difference is the inclusion of the Quick Clot sponge rather than the Combat Gauze for organizations that must use the sponge.
It seems as if we got hit with a quadruple whammy this week on medic bags (five if you count Mayflower’s Back Panel). We already covered the Low Profile Medical Kit from Phokus Research Group but there are a few other new models as well.
First up is the new ETA Trauma Kit Pouch from ITS Tactical. Developed in conjunction with ZULU Nylon Gear, the ETA Trauma Kit Pouch was designed to carry their Vacuum Sealed ETA Trauma Kit (designed to TCCC standards) as well as any other items the user needs to get at quickly. It is a compartmented design that is rapidly opened with the pull of a single loop connected to dual zippers. In addition to the main, rearmost pocket, there are two rear wing pockets large enough to store Decompression Needles and NPAs or other Airway devices. Additionally, the main flap panel design features the ITS Med Insert design. Finally, there is a channel between the pouch and MALICE clip webbing that will accommodate trauma shears, tourniquet pouch, or rescue hook.

Next is the SPECOPS IPMED or Indywidualny Pakiet Medyczny or Individual Medical Packet. As you may recall, SPECOPS.PL is a Polish company. As you can see, the IPMED is a multi-component pouch designed to be worn drop leg style and consists of four parts including a removable, tethered envelope for medical supplies. Interestingly, it made from 770D Cordura (common in Europe) in Coyote Brown. It comes filled with a medical kit built to TCCC standards. Read the whole review at equipped.pl.
Finally, many of us are outdoorsmen but unfortunately, we don’t have the same level of medical gear for our outdoor pursuits that troops carry on the battlefield. We’ve mentioned Phokus before. They were founded in 2008 as a means to ethically help entrepreneurial military personnel develop innovative warfighting solutions. For example, they developed the Phokus Aid as well as several other items. The Low Profile Medical Kit is their latest project.
The concept came from a SOF Medic who had experience operating in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He had come across a serious problem with the existing medical kits (blow-out kit) design. Generally, troops carry them in their trouser cargo pocket or day pack. During a fire-fight or IED blast the core of an operator is “protected†by his ballistic vest and/or armored plates. Unfortunately, the life-saving gear necessary to treat an operator’s wounds are potentially exposed to ballistic damage or blast fragmentation and all too often rendered useless.
Comprised of the same materials that make up a standard SOF blow-out kit, the Medic asked, what if they could devise a medical kit that is placed behind an operator’s ballistic plates to protect the contents against blast and frag damage. They took the idea to Force 1 Decon and the result is the Low Profile Medical Kit.
– Compact, vacuum sealed blow-out kit that is the same surface size as the government issued small/ medium Level 3+ ballistic plate. The kit is approximately .5†thick at the thickest point.
– It slides between the ballistic plate and an operator’s body in the ballistic plate pocket of most plate carriers.
– It incorporates an easy grab tear strip to quickly access kit’s medical contents.
– Contents of the kit can be customized by requesting unit/company as needed or they can send FORCE 1 DECON their own medical supplies which will be used to construct the blow-out kit.
