Here’s another slangvel teaser from Slangvel, maker of things cool and camouflage. He sent these images of a test garment along to show a contrast between the camo and the 500 denier cordura coyote on the smock. The Cordura he has chosen blends with the Pencott Badlands as well as MultiCam.

Right about now, the vast majority of you are scratching your heads asking yourselves, “What’s this “slangvel” you speak of? It is an Afrikaans word for “Snake Skin” and is used to describe the South African parachutist smock because the shoulders and elbows are reinforced with nylon webbing.

There’s also Slangvel, the manufacturer of things camouflage and cool. He has manufactured some of my favorite hats and while he has made Smocks in the past, he is working on getting a new Slangvel off the ground.

Here you see a South African brown (nutria) Slangvel next to a Badlands Slangvel to show how close he has kept the detail. He is in final sourcing for the proper snaps which is a major design detail on a Slangvel as they are exposed.

Although the sample is in PenCott Badlands he also plans on offering them in MultiCam and other patterns and solids as well. These will be initially offered in medium and large size. We’ll let you know when they are ready for order.

We also told you that Italian combat uniform producer Special Operation Division would be producing uniforms in Hyde Definition’s patterns. Here’s your first look at the GreenZone pattern.

Kick Ass Caps

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Have you ever found yourself looking for classic military cap styles in modern camo patterns? Well, some of you may have but I bet after seeing these most of you will want them too. Slangvel, a disabled US Army vet who later went on to work for the Veterans Administration hand crafts various styles of military caps. Many camo and militaria collectors will recognize the significance of the name. The term Slangvel is Afrikaans for snake skin and was used to used to refer to SADF para smocks which featured texturised nylon elbow patches.

Slangvel currently manufactures M43-styles, Bigeards, Recce Hats, 2″ Brim Boonie Hats, Berets, and Rhodesian Kepis. Currently, all offerings are made via eBay as they come off the line so you have to check back regularly to ascertain available styles and patterns. Word is that Slangvel will undertake commissions in patterns he does not stock if you can supply the fabric. Additional charges may apply.

Two weeks ago I ordered a MultiCam M43-style as well as a MultiCam and AOR2 Recce Hats. Overall, craftsmanship is excellent and the patterning follows the original caps. Stitching is flawless. The M43 fits like a glove and had the perfect crumple right out of the box. The Recce Hat is a Short Brimmed Boonie with shock cord cinch strap, Crye Boonie-style slash air vents with mesh lining and a Day-Glo Orange signal panel sewn into the crown that pulls double duty as a pocket. I can’t say enough good things about these caps.
