Dueck Defense Debuts New Sights at SureFire Writer’s Event

Friday, December 6th, 2013

Dueck Defense unveiled their new as-yet-unnamed sight for GLOCKs at this week’s SureFire Writer’s Event. It features a wide, rear sight with a smooth rack notch that easily catches on belts, pants or holsters when you want it to but doesn’t have sharp edges that catch on everything you pass by or cut you up. I can attest to the design. I was able to rack the slide one handed by catching the rear sight on my gear during drills but it never caught on anything even when I was wearing a hoodie.

20131205-223613.jpg

The rear sight notch is .145″ wide x .120″ deep with a front sight width of .115″. This leaves to columns of .015″ worth of daylight on either side of the front sight. Front man Barry Dueck explained that his experience is that the wider rear sight is a bit more forgiving as the contrast of the light helps the brain center the sight. Narrower rear sight notches can result in little contrast and slower sight alignment.

Production models will be Melonite coated but these pre-production samples were blued in order to get them on the guns in time for the event. You also may notice that the front sight isn’t serrated. Dueck explained that coated serrations wear off over time on the high points. In the long run, you end up constantly coating them in order to reduce shine.

According to Dueck, this new sight will be offered with different front sight options. I was able to use the fiber optic insert variant as well as the standard Black front sight but there is also a Tritium variant. Look for availability in the next 6-8 weeks.

SureFire Receives Ambrose Award From The National Defense Industrial Association

Friday, November 15th, 2013

SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high performance illumination tools, suppressors and tactical products, proudly announces that it has been presented the Ambrose Award from the National Defense Industrial Association. The Ambrose Award, as described by the NDIA, is established and presented periodically to recognize an Industrial Firm which, in the opinion of the Small Arms Committee Executive Board, has made outstanding contributions to the field of small arms systems.

“The Ambrose Award is named in honor of former Under Secretary of the Army, James R. Ambrose for his recognition of the value and contribution of Industry in meeting the needs of our National Defense. This prestigious award is being presented by the NDIA Small Arms Executive Board on November 12th, 2013, to SureFire, LLC for the contribution and commitment of their employees in support of the mission being performed by US Armed Forces,” said Brian Berger, NDIA Chairman.

The NDIA defines an outstanding contribution as characterized by exemplary commitment and contribution to the Armed Forces by delivering superior material that meets required operational capabilities and supports a high level of force readiness in the conduct of warfighting activities or homeland defense. Such contributions may be shown through a record of continual demonstration of emerging technologies, development of products and systems, establishment of enhanced production capabilities and integration of innovative weapons systems and supporting products and services required by the DoD and Allied countries.

“Our tireless commitment to innovation—spearheaded by our founder and president John Matthews, PhD—has led to the continuous creation of new game-changing products from our engineers, designers, and production professionals,” said Matthew Hemenez, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, who accepted the award on behalf of SureFire. “We do everything in our power to build truly best-in-class products because our mission is to help those who go into harm’s way prevail and come home safely—a mission that will never change.”

In 1979, SureFire pioneered the introduction of laser-aiming sights into the commercial market followed by the invention of the first handgun and shotgun weapon-mounted lights seven years later. The first tactical flashlight, one capable of overwhelming an aggressor’s night-adapted vision and operated via the tailcap, debuted in 1988 and since then SureFire has set the standard for illumination tools and weapon-mounted lights. Continued expansion of its product line, to include high-intensity white-light, IR weaponlights, sound suppressors, hearing protection, and a full line of tactical accessories guarantees SureFire’s commitment to the development of cutting-edge products to assist the warfighters and peacekeepers who go into harm’s way.

“I appreciate this honor and I accept it on behalf of everyone in the SureFire family that has worked tirelessly over the last 33 years, making this company what it is today. I’m humbled to be in such good company in the industry. Thank you to NDIA for recognizing what we do,” said SureFire founder/president, Dr. John Matthews.

SureFire 1000 Lumen P3X Fury Now Available

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013

We first mentioned the new 1000 Lumen P3X Fury during our Modern Day marine coverage. Now, they are available for purchase.

P3X

Fountain Valley, CA — The P3X Fury—a higher-output, three-battery version of the P2X Fury—is a compact, ultra-high-output flashlight that produces 1000 lumens on its high setting. The P3X features a virtually indestructible LED and precision reflector that creates a smooth beam with plenty of reach and enough surround light to accommodate peripheral vision, making it a popular choice for tactical applications, outdoor use, or everyday carry.

“Lumens is the total light output of the light; that’s the size of the fist that is going to hit you,” said Don Alexander, director of Military Sales at SureFire. “Candela is the power behind that fist, how far that light can be projected. Depending on light conditions, the P3X will project light out past 200 yards away,” Alexander said. Due to the ultra-high output, the P3X is ideal for many types of scenarios that demand light at extended ranges.

The new P3X is available in two models: P3X Fury and the P3X Fury Tactical. The Fury Tactical is a single output, 1000 lumen model that features tactical type switching: press for momentary-on; twist for constant-on. The standard P3X is a dual output model that provides 1000 lumens on its high setting, and 15 lumens on low, and comes with a click-type switch: press for momentary-on low, click for constant-on low output. Return to off and press or click within two seconds for high output.

The P3X Fury models offer a solution for users that demand both higher output and longer runtime. The durable P3X delivers 2.25 hours of tactical-level light on its high setting, and up to 60 hours of runtime on low, with just three 123A lithium batteries. At a length of only 6.8 inches, and a weight of 7.2 ounces this pocket-sized searchlight doesn’t take up much room in a gear bag, or on a duty belt. These rugged lights are constructed of high-strength aerospace aluminum that has been Mil-Spec Type III hard anodized and O-ring sealed to protect against the elements. All models come standard in a black hard anodized finish. MSRP is $250.00 and is available through authorized SureFire dealers or by calling SureFire at 800-828-8809 or at http://www.surefire.com

Features and Benefits:

• 1,000 Lumens on high, 15 lumens on low
• Two models: Tactical (single output) and Standard (Dual Output)
• Precision reflector creates smooth, optimized beam
• Coated, tempered window resists impact and maximizes light output
• Weatherproof O-ring and gasket sealing
• Powered by three included 123A lithium batteries with 10-year shelf life
• Backed by SureFire’s No-Hassle Promise

SureFire EB2 – A 2-Cell Backup Light

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

EB2_backpack

The EB2 Backup is a higher-output, two-battery version of the EB1 Backup you are all familiar with. It is a dual-output flashlight (5 Lumens and 500 Lumens) designed as a backup light for patrol officers or as a primary light for plainclothes officers. SureFire also recommends it for outdoor, self-defense, and everyday-carry use.

Powered by two 123A lithium batteries, the EB2 Backup features a LED emitter and a precision Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens. The EB2 is constructed of high-strength aerospace aluminum that has been Mil-Spec Type III hard anodized and O-ring sealed to protect against the elements.

This useful dual-output light comes in two versions: a click-type tailcap switch or tactical tailcap switch. To activate the EB2 with a click-type switch, just press or click the tailcap pushbutton once for the tactical-level 500-lumen high beam that can reach deep into the night or overwhelm an aggressor’s dark-adapted vision. Return to off and press or click again within two seconds to activate the 5-lumen low beam, useful for navigating, loading gear, and other tasks that don’t require a lot of light. With the tactical tailcap version of the EB2, press for momentary-on low, press farther for momentary-on high, and twist the tailcap for constant-on activation at either level.

EB2-TN

All EB2 models are available in Black or Tan.

Features and Benefits:
• Two output levels—high for maximum light, low for extended runtime
• Two tailcap switch options: click-on/off or press-for-momentary activation/twist-for-constant-on
• TIR lens produces tight beam with reach and enough surround light for peripheral vision
• Coated, tempered window resists impact and maximizes light output
• Two-way clip permits light to be carried head up or down, or clipped to a hat brim or bill
• Weatherproof O-ring and gasket sealing
• Powered by two included 123A lithium batteries with 10-year shelf life
• Backed by SureFire’s No-Hassle Promise

SureFire Releases 600 Lumen Dedicated Shotgun Forend

DSF-870

SureFire has completely re-invented its Dedicated Shotgun Forend WeaponLights. The new DSF-Series Shotgun Forend models are the latest addition to SureFire’s class of integrated weapon-mounted lights and feature an ultra-high-output of 600 lumens on its high setting and 200 lumens on its lower setting. Additional features include a precision reflector, ambidextrous switching, and sleek high-impact polymer that is textured for a secure grip in any tactical situation.

The new Dedicated Shotgun Forend models are designed to replace the factory forends on the Remington 870, Mossberg 500/590, Winchester Defender 1300, SPX and Fabrique Nationale d’Herstal (FNH) P-12, Benelli M1 Super 90 and M2 models. No permanent modification to host weapon is necessary for installation, and all models seamlessly integrate into place of the factory forend.

The DSF features large, tactile momentary and constant-on switches on both sides for precise control by left- and right-handed shooters. Selecting the LED’s output is achieved by activating the light in constant-on mode and then pressing the output-mode selector switch until the desired output level (600 or 200 lumens) is set. The selected output can then be left in constant-on mode or switched to momentary activation, and it stays at that output level until reset. Every DSF-Series WeaponLight also features an integrated system-disable switch to prevent accidental activation during transport, storage, or stealth operations.

All DSF models produce tactical-level light (over 50 lumens) for 3 hours on two 123A lithium batteries.
