Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

Saturday, January 10th, 2015

Misinformation overload; I hate to sound like a broken record but once again I must say be careful what you read and take as gospel from the Internet. Every single day I read something posted as if it is gospel handed down by Moses himself and it is dead ass wrong in regards to firearms and their use. Attending a class by an established instructor like those listed by Alias will teach you more than you will learn in a year of researching on the Internet. Be careful and consider the source before you listen to a keyboard commando on the World Wide Web.

Consider the source; be careful what you believe on the Internet in regards to firearms, their history and implementation. Although plenty of solid information exists on the web, a lot of wrong, misleading and potentially dangerous information and advice is spread around as if it were facts carved in stone. I literally see multiple examples of this every single day on the web.

My advice is consider the source and cross check. In addition your own verification, thru experience if possible, usually points you in the right direction.

Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

Saturday, November 8th, 2014

A classic American trait is we like to customize and modify our prized possessions. Everything from cars, bikes, guitars and of course guns. I would argue it is one of our strong points and goes hand in hand with our quest to make things ‘better’.

My only advice is to know why you are customizing your firearms specifically. If it’s to make it a better range ‘toy’, then that’s okay. Just understand that I see a lot of shooters who think they are customizing their self defense firearms to make them more useful for the assigned task, when in fact they are making them less usable. I see this in every class I teach.

Be careful and do your research before you modify a weapon that you stake your life on. The stakes are too high to do otherwise.

Lipsey’s Announces Vickers Tactical Signature GLOCK 17&19

Thursday, November 6th, 2014

This team up between Lipsey’s and Larry Vickers very exciting news. While his name has long been synonymous with the 1911, LAV has been shooting GLOCKs for years. In fact, he has developed several GLOCK after market parts that will be included in this Lispey’s build on the FDE frame. I’ve already placed my order through my local Lipsey’s dealer and can’t wait to get my hands on it.

LIPSEY’S AND VICKERS TACTICAL TEAM UP TO DELIVER GLOCK EXCLUSIVES

Baton Rouge, La. — Lipsey’s, a nationally renowned firearms distributor, and combat veteran Larry Vickers, the face of the tactical firearms industry have entered into partnership on two exclusive GLOCK pistol models.

Beginning today, Lipsey’s will have a limited run of Gen 3 RTF2 Frame GLOCK 17 and 19’s in flat dark earth. They come equipped with Vickers Tactical sights, mag release, slide catch and magazine base plates. These GLOCK models will also have unique serial numbers (0000LAV- 4999LAV) for collectability and authenticity. Larry Vickers chose close industry partners Wilson Combat to create the sights and Tango Down who manufactured all other parts. When asked about the joint venture Larry said, “I’m proud to be working with Lipsey’s on a pair of GLOCK pistols that not only feature my parts, but are offered in a configuration never before available in the market. Serious GLOCK fans take note, these guns are a must have.”

The FDE GLOCK has been a staple in the Lipsey’s Exclusives arsenal for several years. Lipsey’s Product Development Manager Jason Cloessner and Larry Vickers have been brewing this concept for some time. Cloessner was excited to finally unveil this project. “Larry and I have been working on this project for some time. Basically, I asked Larry to spec out a GLOCK exactly how he would want it without any compromises. The Vickers/Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK 17’s and 19’s are the results of this request.”

Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

Saturday, October 11th, 2014

I was on the phone the other day with Mike Pannone, a fellow Alias Instructor and former Delta Force Operator like myself. When the topic of shooting fast came up, Mike nailed it: “If you can’t shoot slow and straight then you have no business trying to shoot fast and straight.” Spot on.

Everyone wants to outrun their headlights these days and spray rounds all over the range in ‘Tacticool Ballistic Masturbation’ drills – that is way off base and unless your goal is to burn a bunch of ammo, and it’s also a complete waste of time.

Slow down and work on mastering the fundamentals – it ain’t sexy but it works. Period.
