Garmont Introduces the T8 NFS and T8 Extreme

Friday, June 8th, 2012

In use from the ski slopes to the rugged mountains of Northern Italy to the battlefields in Afghanistan and Iraq, Garmont has been manufacturing and designing quality footwear since the 1800’s. When the call came to Garmont North America from US combat Soldiers and Veterans to design combat footwear based on their rugged approach and terrain platforms, Garmont raised its hands and said “Yes!”

The “T” series development of Garmont Tactical footwear began over 8 years ago using direct input and feedback from all branches of the US Armed Forces but in particular from the Special Operations community. Garmont T series boots have been in service and in combat zones all over the world. The number one complaint Garmont receives these days is “When will you have my size back in stock?” As demand has grown, Garmont has not physically been able to keep up with the demand but has heard the call from soldiers around the globe.

The NEW T8 NFS (Need for Speed) and the T8 Extreme 200 gm thinsulate combat Terrain boot are slated for delivery in the USA around October. The current in-line T8 Combat boot is in stock in both Coyote and Tan in select sizes. In October Garmont will have nearly 100,000 pairs of the T8 Series arriving for delivery and are hoping to ramp up production even higher towards the last quarter to try to meet the growing demand. Garmont is committed to designing and fully testing each product thoroughly on the battle field before their release. For example, currently there are over 144 pairs of the T8 NFS and T8 Extreme’s in final testing stages in various theaters around the globe.

Garmont told SSD that they are very pleased and thankful for the thousands of warfighters who have taken the time out to provide feedback, comments and to thank them for putting out an excellent product. Polymer Magazines NOT Banned

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

In a classic, “What I meant to say was…” moment, Army spokesman Matt Bourke answered Military.com’s Matthew Cox’s questions about the TACOM message banning the use of polymer magazines. In a seeming reversal, Bourke explained that the TACOM Maintenance Information Message, published in its enirety here at SSD on May 11th, wasn’t direct in nature at all but rather informative.

So, game on. Use those commercial magazines at your own risk. Some are better than others.

243K Mini SATCOM Antenna from BHI

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

The BHI Mini-SATCOM Antenna Kit is a very versatile mini UHF SATCOM antenna system. It’s compact, lightweight, offered with several deployment options like the pistol grip mode shown below. Essentially, you fold the elements which are shock corded to the antenna and store the antenna. When needed, it can be pulled out and intuitively pointed toward the bird to make the shot. It’s been done for years with other antennas including umbrella styles (showing my age here), but no one put a pistol grip on them to make it easier. The grip is a hollow design and stores an adjustment wrench.

Weighing only 1.1 pounds, the dual quad radials collapse and fold alongside the collapsible boom to fit into a water-resistant MOLLE-compliant carrying pouch. The antenna is treated to a dull black anodized finish to reduce glare and protect the metal against weatherization. The kit includes the 243 antenna, tripod, pistol grip, magnetic mount and ground spike, MOLLE-compliant carrying case and a waterproof mini hard case to secure all components.

Key Features – Benefits
• Ultra light weight
• Compact for individual troop carry
• Rapid deployment
• Four deployment options
• Easy-carry MOLLE-compliant pouch
• Dull, black anodized finish

BHI has also incorporated a couple of other features. For example, there’s a one-step elevation adjustment via friction joint (no locking knob or lever required). Additionally, they’ve addressed common issues that arrive during operations in the field. The connector is slightly recessed to protect from damaging drops or unintentional misuse. The extension mechanism is designed to prevent possible jamming due to sand or dust contamination and the interface mount mechanism keyed to prevent improper connection. Finally, additional mounting options include a stainless steel spike providing sturdy, durable staking in all soil conditions and a rare earth magnetic mount.

IWI Introduces New Flattop Configurations for TAVOR, X95 and ACE Family of Small Arms

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) will unveil its expanded portfolio of assault rifles, at Eurosatory 2012, June 11-15, Paris, Israel Pavilion, Hall 6 at Booth # CD690. Look for new Flattop configurations for TAVOR and X95 assault rifles as well as new NATO cartridge configurations for the ACE Family (ACE N).

The X95 can be used as an Assault Rifle, Carbine, or Submachine Gun (SMG), it is the standard Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Assault Rifle. Interestingly, it can quickly be converted from 5.56mm caliber to 9mm caliber and vice versa.

The bullpup design TAVOR 5.56mm Family of Assault Rifles was developed in close cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), based on lessons learned from actual combat. It is in service in the IDF Infantry and Special Forces as well as in other countries throughout the world. Among its additional features, the TAVOR’s body is made of strong, modern composite materials, and its metal parts are corrosion-resistant. According to IWI, it maintains zeroing at all times, even when converting from day optics to night optics, and can be comfortably used by either left or right-handed shooters.

The ACE Family of 5.56mm and 7.62mm caliber Assault Rifles are based on the exceptionally reliable mechanism of the very successful GALIL Assault Rifle. Blending enhanced human engineering and ergonomics with the demands of the modern battlefield – and providing both automatic and semi-automatic fire modes – the ACE has been extensively battle proven under the most extreme conditions, worldwide. The rifle comes in three barrel lengths and incorporates 4 Picatinny rails. Air cooled and gas operated, the rifles are easy to use by right or left-handed users, are simple to maintain without special tools, and include night sights and telescopic and/or foldable butts.

According to Uri Amit, IWI’s CEO, “We are pleased to introduce a variety of new configurations that expand our portfolio of solutions in the area of assault rifles. We continuously invest in the development of new products, working together with our customers and developing the best possible weapons to meet their needs. We will be displaying our entire line of products at Eurosatory, and invite attendees to visit our booth.”
