Private Bloggins Puts The Raptor Buckle To The Test

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

CTOMS posted an interesting look at the Raptor buckle on their Private Bloggins site. Their intent was to decide whether to take a look at replacing the Austrialpin Cobra buckles used on their X-Belts and M-Harnesses with the Raptor. To do this, they pull tested two Raptor buckles to compare their measurements with the manufacturer’s. here’s one example.

CTOMS is very up front about how they obtained their samples, what they did with the buckles and the limitations of how they evaluated the buckles. I like that kind of honesty and the story is worth looking at if you want to see how buckles are pull tested and the whole “behind the scenes” on how and what they did. You’ll also find out if CTOMS decided to take a further look at these buckles.

New Policy – Posts on Firearms Training Professionals

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

I’ve decided to make a change on what is acceptable when posting comments regarding those in the firearms training business. I’ve let things slide for too long.

Character assassination is unacceptable behavior. If this is your MO, your post will be deleted. I don’t care who you are or, who you are talking about. Not everyone gets along. That’s life. If you don’t get along with somebody, do it somewhere else. There’s no quibbling about this either.

However, you may discuss the merits of the content as well as the quality of instruction if you have first hand knowledge. For example, you took and class from a trainer and it was great, feel free to share your experience, as well as why. Likewise, if you felt like you didn’t receive your money’s worth, or you see a technique or advice that you don’t agree with, please share and once again, put it in perspective. A simple, “I hate him” or “He sucks” will get your post deleted.

You can thank a few who checked professionalism at the door while visiting SSD for this policy clarification.

Any questions?

Panacis and Solace Power Collaborate for Soldier System Power

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Panacis Inc., a global leader in advanced lithium ion battery design and manufacture, and Solace Power, a leading innovator in the delivery of wireless power, today announced they were working together to reduce and eventually eliminate power cables for soldier-worn equipment.

The companies are working together to demonstrate wireless power transmission and charging capabilities. The demo will show a Panacis battery with integrated Wireless Power Technology from Solace Power, resulting in the first wirelessly rechargeable battery for soldier systems and other military applications, eliminating the need for cables and connectors.

“The average soldier will carry 16 to 20 pounds of batteries and related cables on a 72-hour deployment,” stated Steve Carkner, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Panacis. “Our goal is to use Solace Power’s technology to reduce both the weight burden and the tangle of wiring that connects equipment to our batteries.”

Neil Chaulk, VP Business Development for Solace Power stated that, “Wireless power enables the delivery of more utility to the user, including soldiers in the field. When combined with the advanced lithium ion battery technology developed by Panacis, we have an extremely flexible tool in terms of energy storage and ease of access. Together we can deliver a fantastic value proposition that truly will reduce the soldier burden.”

Panacis will host technology from Solace Power at the CANSEC trade show, 29 and 30 May in Ottawa. Visit Panacis and representatives from Solace Power at the Panacis Booth #927 to find out more about wireless power.
