Disruptive Tech – Army CoCreate

Friday, October 18th, 2013

You’re welcomed to the Army CoCreate website with this statement:

Do you have an idea, big or small, about a Soldier challenge that needs to be solved? Post it below. Vote for ideas that interest you, the more votes an idea receives, the more likely it is to be selected as an Army CoCreate project.

Sponsored by the Rapid Equipping Force, the Maneuver Center of Excellence, Camber, Exponent and administrated by Local Motors, Army CoCreate is a collaborative website to crowds price fresh ideas for the many operational challenges that face Soldiers.

Army CoCreate uses a four-step process to narrow the field to identify the ideas that provide the best bang for the buck and are most likely to succeed: Identify Problems, Suggest Solutions, Tackle a Project, Build Prototypes. Online tutorials guide you through the process as you suggest projects which are voted on by other participants. The most promising projects are invited to participate in Make-a-thons where the designs will be 3D modeled. This is exciting stuff and invites participation at the lowest levels.

This is a great chance to make America’s Army better.

UPDATED – US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort Update – OCP Contract Documents Removed From FBO

Friday, October 18th, 2013

Curiouser and Curiouser. This morning the US Army Contracting Command removed both the Notice of Intent to negotiate a license contract with Crye Precision for Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern as well as the associated redacted J&A published one week ago, from Federal Business Opportunities which serves to notify the public of Government procurement information.

Below is a copy of the justification and approval that was removed. A J&A is a legal review of a justification to purchase a product or service from a sole source without open competition. Unfortunately, we do not have screenshots of either FBO notices but if any readers have copies we will post them as updates to this story.

There could be several reasons that one or the other of these public record notices might be removed, but both? Within 30 minutes of one another? It is rare that entire postings are removed. Generally, they are updated or cancelled outright but not removed altogether. We have determined that the notices were not removed by the office of the POC listed on the Notices but rather somewhere else and they were unable to explain the disappearance. All-in-all, this is odd. We are trying to determine what is going on.

UPDATE – I guess the old adage “You Can’t Run From The Internet” still rings true. Below are cached versions of the notices that were removed FedBizOpps.

Streamlight – The Siege

Friday, October 18th, 2013

the-siege_logoed

Streamlight’s ‘The Siege’ is a compact, akaline hand lantern. It features two LED modes:

White LED – four C4 LEDs
– High; 340 lumens with a 30 hour run time
– Medium; 175 lumens with a 70 hour run time
– Low; 33 lumes with a 295 hour run time

Red LED – one red LED
– High; steady night vision preserving mode – 10 lumens with a 235 hour run time
– Flash SOS mode; 10 lumens with a 430 hour run time

The Siege comes with a polycarbonate glare-reducing cover that provides soft, even 360° light distribution. The cover is removable to illuminate larger areas. Incorporated D-rings are featured on the top and bottom of the lantern and are spring-loaded to stow against the light, out of the way when not in use. The handle is designed to lock in either an upright or stowed position.

The Siege uses three D-cell alkaline batteries, and the battery door is keyed to facilitate battery replacement in the dark. The power button is recessed to prevent accidental actuation, and the lantern also features a battery level indicator – green, to yellow, to red, then to flashing red when batteries are at the end of useable life.

The Siege is constructed from durable polymer with a rubber molded base. It’s certified IPX7 waterproof to 1m submersion, 2m impact resistance tested, and it floats for easy retrieval from water.
