Remember the StrapMaster 2000?

Friday, January 3rd, 2014

Around 1999 SOCOM started issuing a pack system by Gregory/Bianchi, commercially called the UM21. Affectionately, it was known by many who used it as the StrapMaster 2000 for the outrageously long Black 1″ webbing found all over the main pack. Usually issued in Woodland there were a limited number manufactured in 3-Color Desert camo, primarily for 5th Group.

UM21 Packmule

This photo of a burdened mule was taken very early in Operation Enduring Freedom during the so-called Horse Soldier operations. It remains my favorite photo of the UM-21 because one look at the mule’s face and you’ll see how everyone felt while carrying that beast. In fact, you won’t run across many photos of troops actually wearing the Main Pack. Although it did incorporate a few innovative features, the Main Pack was partially manufactured from rubberized fabric and was heavy even when empty. The Main Pack (with PALS compatible side pockets), Patrol Pack and Butt Pack along with 5 stuff sacks made up the system weighing 17 lbs all told.

Although it was fielded as part of the Special Operations Forces Personal Equipment Advanced Requirements (SPEAR) program, it’s design and selection pre-dated the team that fielded such great items as the MICH, MLCS, PCU and SOF Handwear. In fact, it was developed before the Family of Packs was broken out as a separate program from Body Armor/Load Carrying System (BALCS). BALCS ALSO included body armor as well as an Enhanced Load Carrying System subsystems in addition to the UM21.

Breaking – Magpul Announces Move

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

Magpul announces their move, going wisely with the split location option. Personally, I see Texas as a risky move in the out years with so much pressure to naturalize illegal workers to citizenship. Based on national trends there is good reason to believe that this would strengthen the Democrat base in that State. Traditionally, Democrats support gun legislation, introducing bills to restrict Second Amendment rights. As for the multitude of doubters and armchair MBAs who didn’t believe that Magpul was actually moving shop; eat it. Having said that, 3 huzzahs for Magpul and lovers of Freedom everywhere.

MAGPUL INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR RELOCATION
Company Is Moving Operations to Wyoming and Texas

Magpul Industries announced today that it is relocating its operations to Wyoming and Texas.

The company is relocating manufacturing, distribution and shipping operations to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Magpul is leasing a 58,000 square foot manufacturing and distribution facility during the construction of a 100,000 square foot build-to-suit facility in the Cheyenne Business Parkway. The Wyoming relocation is being completed with support from Governor Matt Mead, the Wyoming Business Council and Cheyenne LEADS.

Magpul is moving its corporate headquarters to Texas. Three North Central Texas sites are under final consideration, and the transition to the Texas headquarters will begin as soon as the facility is selected. The Texas relocation is being accomplished with support from Governor Rick Perry and the Texas Economic Development Corporation.

“Magpul made the decision to relocate in March 2013 and has proceeded on an aggressive but deliberate path” says Doug Smith, Chief Operating Officer for Magpul Industries. “These dual moves will be carried out in a manner that ensures our operations and supply chain will not be interrupted and our loyal customers will not be affected.”

The company began a nationwide search for a new base of operations after legislation was enacted in Colorado that dramatically limits the sale of firearms accessories – the core of Magpul’s business. Magpul plans on initially transitioning 92% of its current workforce outside of Colorado within 12-16 months and will maintain only limited operations in Colorado.

“Moving operations to locations that support our culture of individual liberties and personal responsibility is important,” says Richard Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive Officer for Magpul Industries. “Moving to a true multi state operation will also allow Magpul to utilize the strengths of both Texas and Wyoming as we continue to expand.”

Mjölnir Pendant Collaborations from TYR Group/SAR Global Tool Back In Stock

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

TÝR Group Mjölnir’s are back in stock!

mjolnir

The TÝR Group Mjölnir is a collaboration project between John Hurth of TÝR Group LLC and Spencer Alan Reiter and Scott Chamberlain of SAR Global Tool. All Mjölnirs are individually hand crafted, and no two are exactly the same.

Mjölnir (/?mj?ln??r/ or /?mj?ln?r/ MYOL-n(ee)r); means “crusher”. In Norse mythology, Mjölnir is the hammer of Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Distinctively shaped, Mjölnir is depicted in Norse mythology as one of the most fearsome weapons, capable of leveling mountains.

The TÝR arrow was the symbol of the warrior and was inscribed on warriors weapons to bring them strength, protection and victory in battle. The symbol also represented the values held by choosing the warrior path such as duty, honor, integrity, discipline, responsibility, and self-sacrifice.
