SHOT Show – Yeti Coolers

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

Yeti has introduced three new kitchen-grade steel bottles.

Offered in 18, 36 and 64 oz models, the cap handles are large enough to get multiple fingers in for carriage.  Additionally, they’ve introduced a double gasket system that keeps the liquid for days.  This isn’t a backpacker’s bottle.  It’s designed for working folks who normally destroy gear.  Look for these mid-Spring.

The softsided Hopper is now available in a 40 quart version.  A perfect pair for use with it, is the Yeti ice.  It’s shatter proof, packs efficiently, is colder and lasts longer than traditional ice.  Plus, it’s reusable.

SHOT Show – MoraKniv Garberg

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

Offered in two versions, one with a leather sheath and one with a multi mode sheath, the Garberg is MoraKniv’s first full tang knife.

The 109mm long blade is made from 14C 28N Sanvic steel paired with a single mold polyamide handle that is very shock resistant. That handle means there are no spacers. It weighs 9.6 oz.

The multi mode sheath has several components including the sheath itself, a cradle which allows the sheath to be attached to PALS, belts, or more permanent fixture such as to a boat or vehicle, as well as a frog and Velcro mounting straps.

This is the Minaret Crew and Dobson Boxer.

above is the Wilkin QZ which has a very deep zip front paired with the new 3/4 length Glenbrook 3/4 bottom.

SHOT Show – HEXGRID from 5.11 Tactical

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

During SOFIC last year I was invited by 5.11 Tactical to preview their HEXGRID technology. Much to my surprise, I saw some samples of the technology in their SHOT Show booth.

Like the name implies, HEXGRID consists of hexagon shaped holes in a substrate which will accept PALS compatible pouches. Due to the geometry, the pouches can be attached at several angles rather than just up and down.
