Magic and the Easy Button

The firearms and tactical training trade is rife with people “selling magic”. By that I mean being a vocal advocate for the newest “great idea” that hasn’t really been vetted but looks good on YouTube. It’s always amusing to see these new ‘groundbreaking’ techniques that are either poorly thought out or have been preceded by better techniques years and sometimes decades prior seem to get overnight popularity.

One I have addressed previous is the Temple Index and the inherent flaws of it. Another example of selling magic is the widespread use of vehicles as a prop for a shooting class. This is done in complete contrast to vehicles being a useful training aid for teaching sound tactics associated with open air conflicts around vehicles. The point is missed completely because many are trying to entertain more so than teach.

When I played lacrosse in college, my coach Bill Tierney (probably the most successful lacrosse coach in history) rode us hard on the simple things. He reminded us that controlling the ball and consistently working hard on offense as well as defense would win over a more talented but less disciplined team that made mistakes on simple things like catching and throwing. We spent lots of time on ball drills because if you can’t scoop a ball, pass and catch then the rest was a waste of time. The principle was what Brian Searcy from Tiger Swan (also my first TL at JSOC) called “brilliance in the basics”. Greatness is the basics done flawlessly and on demand.

On the shooting side I have often been asked what special techniques SFOD uses or favors. I find that a bit amusing since there are no secret techniques nor any secret tactics. There is only one principle that guides the best units or sports teams or for that matter anyone to repeated success. That is a mastery of the basics and the ability to replicate them on demand precisely and consistently. In life and in training there is no Staples “Easy button”, there is only hard precise work.

So in the end, the magic is…that there is no magic.

WTP-848 Kryptek Universal-MC

PRINCETON, FL – October 14, 2015 – TWN Industries Inc., the leading Water Transfer Printing supplier, releases “Kryptek Universal.” Fans of the Kryptek line know that up to now all of their designs have required a specific basecoat color to be used in conjunction with their patterns. And while those requirements were put in place to ensure consistency across the brand’s multiple designs, Kryptek Universal is here to spice things up.

At first glance, the pattern seems like a greyscale version of previous Kryptek designs. However, this pattern is far from being lackluster in the color department. In fact, Kryptek Universal was designed to be used with any desired basecoat color. In doing so, Kryptek has essentially given WTP processors the ability to offer their customers a much broader variation of styles. That flexibility opens up the market for hydro dipping experts by giving them the ability to target a wider customer base. Kryptek’s passionate and loyal fans will also be sure to appreciate this new addition.

As always, the Universal pattern was created using Kryptek’s strict quality control procedures. It’s that constant attention to detail and continual improvement that results in top-quality products loved by outdoor adventurers who demand only the best performance from their gear.

The Kryptek Universal water transfer printing film pattern is available exclusively through TWN Industries, Inc. Three-meter accessory packs are available immediately. Place your production roll orders today. The part number for Kryptek Universal is WTP-848. Safariland Group – ABA Debuts New Xtreme Family Of Body Armor Solutions

ABA Debuts New Xtreme Family of Body Armor Solutions

The industry leading product line adds key design features focused on comfort and performance

raw

ONTARIO, Calif. – The Safariland Group, the leader in advanced body armor responsible for nearly two-thirds of all saves over the last three decades, today announced the release of an all-new line of ABA Xtreme body armor solutions for law enforcement. The result of an intensive collaborative effort with best-in-class partners, the new Xtreme ballistic panels deliver a new benchmark for designs combining fit, protection and exceptional value.

Teaming with DuPont Protection Technologies (DuPont), SAATI and TexTech, The Safariland Group armor team designed the Xtreme panels blending fabric using DuPont Kevlar KM2 Plus fibers incorporating a proprietary weaving process co-created with DuPont, along with a proprietary manufacturing material called Core Matrix Technology, creating this breakthrough family of ballistic panels.

The new Xtreme ballistic panels feature gender specific, biomorphic designs that mimic the shape of the body and enhance comfort. The layering and unique blend of materials amplify comfort, keeping the panel light, thin and flexible.

This unique design combination also drives the Xtreme’s outstanding performance. The proprietary weave acts like high tensile webbing that decelerates the bullet. Working in concert with the proprietary weave, the Core Matrix Technology comprised of 3D-fused fibers, acts as a backstop, dampening impact and stopping the bullet. The final layer of DuPont Kevlar disperses the energy and helps diminish trauma.

“When we’re able to design our ballistics packages in a way that allows for greater ease of movement and superior performance, it’s a win. Our ultimate goal is always to keep officers safe, and our engineers work to improve wearability and comfort so the officer can be more effective in the field,” said Todd Mackler, Vice President Armor, for The Safariland Group.

The Xtreme ballistic panels are finished using a thin, heat-sealed thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) membrane to ensure that the panels are protected. These panels are then encased in a soft nylon shell to withstand the elements while enabling enhanced comfort during wear.

Added Mackler, “We build our products so that officers can focus on their job and not think about their armor. We are proud of the almost 2000 officers who are living proof of why we do what we do.”

Visit The Safariland Group website to hear stories of several Safariland Group SAVES who fought the battle and lived to tell the story of their courageous efforts, and take a deeper view into the Xtreme technology that made it possible at www.safariland.com/ballistic-technology.

Available starting this month to all Safariland Group armor customers, the new Xtreme models are offered in threat protection levels II and IIIA and feature male and female structured and female unstructured designs.
