Military Mountain and Cold Weather Work Shop – Armor and Load Carriage

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

FirstSpear dominated the armor and load carrying discussion as Dave Kent discussed the various attributes of their Tubes and 6/12 Technologies. For guys who are having trouble wrapping their heads around 6/12, FirstSpear also has the new 6/9 attachment that is also PALS-compatible but is lighter and actually holds pouches closer to the platform than traditional MOLLE.

He also took the attendees back to the future by introducing them to the concept of purpose built panels for armor carriers. Because you can change out the front and rear panels of their carriers, you can integrate panels that are permanently configured for different loads. This helps reduce weight which is particularly desirable in mountain environments.

Diamondback Tactical Introduces Tactical Performance Skin Technology

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

Diamondback Tactical has released two new tactical assault carriers that feature a built-in, patent-pending Tactical Performance Skin, or TPS Technology. The introduction of the D-TAC (Dynamic Tactical Assault Carrier) and the M-TAC (Modular Tactical Assault Carrier) expands Diamondback Tactical’s line of advanced tactical assault carriers. Featuring TPS Technology, the D-TAC and the M-TAC offer operators a multi-functional lining that drastically reduces the overall weight of the carrier and adds ballistic, slash, and fragmentation performance. The combination of TPS Technology with these advanced carriers enhances its strength and durability. Diamondback claims it makes them 10 times stronger than other traditional tactical carriers.

“The release of the D-TAC and M-TAC carriers represents a big leap forward by Diamondback in the advanced tactical marketplace, and push the edge of the envelope of technological innovation in the armor industry,” says Andrew Bair, CEO of Diamondback Tactical. “Diamondback prides itself in leading the tactical armor systems market. Our design engineers continue to make high-performance quality products that many leading operators prefer.”

The DYNAMIC TACTICAL ASSAULT CARRIER (D-TAC) is a lightweight plate carrier featuring TPS Technology. The scalable design of the D-TAC increases operator maneuverability and can easily scale from a low-profile plate carrier to a tactical assault carrier with bicep, groin, throat, collar and lower back protection.

The MODULAR TACTICAL ASSAULT CARRIER (M-TAC) is a full-coverage tactical carrier utilizing advanced materials to increase strength and durability in a lightweight design. Incorporating their proprietary TPS technology, the M-TAC is more than 4lbs lighter than Diamondback’s UTOC (Universal Tactical Outer Carrier). The M-TAC is a top-load concealable cut carrier with expanded soft-armor coverage that both increases operator maneuverability and can easily scale from a low-profile tactical carrier to a full-coverage tactical assault carrier with bicep, groin, throat, collar and lower back protection.

Using a hybrid composite of Polyethylene, Nylon and Carbon Fiber Stays, XFrame Dynamic Load Carriage moves with the body. According to TYR, it utilizes the active hip to create a cross sectional load to the opposing muscular structure. This allows for dynamic movement of the body (twisting, turning, bending, and rotational movement of the hips). The XFrame stays free-float within cross channels in the carrier and have secure limiter straps that can be adjusted for maximum range of movement.

The XFrame Dynamic Load Carriage is compatible with all carriers in the PICO family.

CORTAC And Survival Armor Join Forces to Bring the CTAV to Body Armor

Thursday, February 7th, 2013

You may have seen the ADS video on this lashup during SHOT Show. Basically, what’s happening is that CTAV maker CORTAC and Survival Armor have entered into an exclusive agreement to integrate the Cooling and Trauma Attenuating Vest (CTAV) panels into Survival Armor’s body armor carriers. CTAV is an “Advanced Impact Resistance Technology creates a “behind armor thermoregulated microclimate [that] promotes convection while vented panels improve heat dissipation.”

“We couldn’t ask for a better partner in this endeavor than Survival,” said Jeremy Harrell, President of CORTAC. “They are well known for ground-breaking advances in the industry, so teaming up with us to integrate the CTAV into their armor is the latest in a long list of pioneering efforts on their part and we’re pleased to be working with them.”

Until now, the CTAV has only been available as an after-market accessory purchase to be affixed onto armor carriers. By integrating the CTAV panels into armor carrier systems, CORTAC claims that users can have a CTAV experience with greater seamlessness and ease, while enjoying the strength and protection of Survival’s body armor.

“CORTAC and their CTAV product obviously took the industry by storm when it launched early last year and we immediately realized the game-changing impact they were making,” said Kurt Osborne, Vice President of Survival Armor. “We’re proud to be working with the folks at CORTAC and we appreciate their partnership.
