Platatac – New Tactical Clothing For 2016
Friday, May 27th, 2016Here’s some new clothing from our friends at Platatac.
Tac Dax Mk3
PATROL SHIRT
INTERDICTION SHIRT
COOL UNDER TACTICAL SHIRT (CUTS V2)
The CUTS V2 is specifically designed to promote cooling when using body armour in warm environments or whilst conducting strenuous activities.
The CUTS differs greatly from a regular BDU shirt though the use of lightweight, moisture wicking fabric in areas where body armour contacts the body, such as the torso. The fabric maximises air flow and heat dissipation where it is required. Furthermore, the shoulders are constructed from 3D air mesh allowing maximum comfort when using load bearing equipment. The elbows of the CUTS have been redesigned to accept the D3O® Tactical Soft Foam (TSF) Elbow Pad (sold separately)
The sleeves are constructed from a heavier weight fabric ensuring maximum durability. The sleeves feature upper arm pockets with pile tabs allowing the attachment of multiple IFF patches and include a webbing flap allowing the user to either hide or display an IR Square with minimal effort. The pockets also feature an additional smaller zippered pocket on top of the original pocket.

SOFIC – Torraka Snow Camo Cold Weather Clothing System
Thursday, May 26th, 2016Known in Europe as Taiga, the Swedish brand uses the name Torraka in North America. As you’d imagine, they’ve got some interesting cold weather clothing, although it’s a little different than what we are used to.
Designed for conditions between 5 deg and -45 deg Celsius, the Torraka system starts with fishnet top and boxer base layer as well a level two long underwear.
When you need more insulation, they offer a fleece jacket and knicker length pant which can be donned and doffed even while wearing boots.
This is their cold weather combat uniform which constructed with a Gore-Tex membrane rather than offering an additional Gore-Tex outer layer.
For even colder condistions, they offer a reversible (Torraka Multi Terrain Pattern to Torraka Snow UV Pattern) insulation level which can be quickly dried. You may also notice that the trousers are boot height rather than full length. With the addition of this level, you can go down to -45 Degrees Celsius.
Torraka also offers a variety of head, hand and footwear to help you deal with these extreme conditions. The loft insulation throughout was referred to as Thermalight.
SOFIC – WL Gore & Assoc Pyrad Combat Uniform
Wednesday, May 25th, 2016Ever since I was first introduced to WL Gore’s FR Pyrad self extinguishing fabric technology, I’ve been intrigued about applying it to a combat uniform. The beauty of Pyrad is that it is a treatment process applied to existing fabrics rather an entirely new one. This means that the base fabric retains its inherent properties. That includes strength and comfort. It’s a laminate rather than a simple topical spray, so the Pyrad isn’t going to wash out. In fact, testing shows that Pyrad fabric is more tear and abrasion resistant as well as colorfast than other fabrics, even after washing.
This garment, manufactured by The Italian brand Montura is made from a Pyrad fabric. In Europe, other garments are popping up as well such as this German uniform in Flektarn from Lindnerhof Taktik I saw during IWA.
Hopefully, we’ll see them here soon as well.
SOFIC – XGO Phase 4-0
Wednesday, May 25th, 2016This water resistant zip mock pullover incorprates a zippered chest pocket and flat seams. It’s made from their heavyweight tech face fleece with a DWR coating.
Available in Small – 2XLarge in Desert Sand, Black, Coyote and Navy.
SOFIC – Wild Things Power Stretch Mountain Shorts
Tuesday, May 24th, 2016Wild Things took a look at their line to figure out areas where they could save weight and realized that thir long underwear pants didn’t really need to be long. They took Power Stretch material and created a knee length short that keeps your thighs warm but leaves your calves free from bulk. With so many wearing calf length compression socks, their calves are already covered. It also equals less weight and bulk in your pack. Brilliant!
NRA – Weather Wool ShirtJac
Sunday, May 22nd, 2016It was great to see Weather Wool on hand at NRA. I’m a big fan of wool and they make a very robust product. Offered in their mid and full weight fabrics, the ShirtJac incorprates two chest pockets as well as slotted buttons. The cuffs are a little long so you can pull your hands inside if needed but the dual button cuff has enough adjustment so that it won’t bother those with shorter arms. Additionally, the bottom hem can be tucked in if needed.
Available in sizes XXSmall – 5Xlarge in colors Black, Drab, Duff and Lynx.
