5.11 Tactical Now Available in Realtree Xtra

5.11 Tactical has made a significant foray into the hunting world with the introduction of their new color option, Realtree Xtra. SGM Kyle E. Lamb (USA, Ret) of Viking Tactics and Robb Wiley from Non-Typical Outfitters are featured in this video which gives you a glimpse of hunting in 5.11.

Offered in limited styles including the Taclite Pro Pant as well as Taclite Pro Shirt in short and long sleeves. There is also the Rush72 Pack and two models of caps. With 5.11’s foothold in several big box hunting and fishing specialty stores, this looks to be a savvy move.

The Odin Guiding Light Jacket incorporates HellyTech Professional, a proprietary, 3-ply waterproof breathable fabric and a YKK Aquaguard waterproof zipper. The minimalist seam construction is fully seam sealed. For those of you who don’t know, Odin is the chief god in Norse mythology and, Norwegian Helly Hansen’s flagship line.

Outdoor Retailer – TASC

I’ve written about TASC and their great clothing made from proprietary bamboo fabrics several times. In fact, my favorite T-shirts are TASC Carrollton. For a long time I’ve hopes that they’d offer these in Desert Sand and finally they are available. I cannot recommend the TASC Carrollton enough. With raglan sleeves, flat seams and a comfortable, loose fit, the Carrollton has seen me through many an active day. The bamboo fibers have an inherent ability to wick moisture and is antimicrobial. Additionally, it is very breathable and comfortable against the skin. Because these properties are at the fiber level, they won’t wash out.

Below is the Hybrid Fitted Short Sleeve which integrates flow mesh panels for cooling and is more of an active wear piece.

USAF Approves New Balance Merino Clothing

New Balance announced that on July 19, 2013 the Air Force Uniform Office approved several New Balance items for use with FR uniforms. The items on the list are intended to be worn next to skin only.

It includes a wide range of No Melt No Drip products that are appropriate for a wide range of climates. NB’s synthetic blends and proprietary Merino wool blends will offer Airmen a next to skin layering system appropriate for their unique mission.

Recon Series – This Ain’t The 5.11 You’re Used To

I’m not going to pontificate much about this but I’d recommend that you go take a look at what 5.11 Tactical has been working on with their Recon Series of training products that includes footwear, clothing and bags. It’s certainly not what I would traditionally expect from 5.11.

The styling, materials and construction are more contemporary and the whole series seems to be focused on training but I’d say that some will be able to wear these items on the job as well. The price tag reflects the update but I don’t find this as a serious detractor. While I haven’t seen any of these items in person yet, if I had to make a criticism it would be the prominent branding. Something a bit more subtle might be more appropriate. However, I know some of you are going to lose it over the blood type ID.

It’s worth taking a look but please don’t come in and bash the brand without first seeing what they are doing with the Recon line.

Whiskey Two-Four Exclusive Distributor Of ROE Apparel

Whiskey Two-Four is the exclusive distributor of ROE Apparel, with ROE’s Basic Shirt being the first addition to the line. The Basic Shirt is manufactured in the USA with US made materials. The sleeves are composed of 50/50 nyco ripstop with loop panel and hook and loop adjustable cuffs. The torso is made from Cyberknit JL3021FX Cordura baselayer fabric, which is 55% cotton, 37% Cordura nylon, and 8% spadex with wicking and antimicrobial treatments. It features an athletic cut with extra length to stay tucked in. The Basic Shirt is available in sizes SM-XXL, in A-TACS FG, Green Zone, and MultiCam camouflage patterns and Coytote.
