Sun Tripper Cap

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Seems like everyone is making a copy of the venerable Patrol Cap. In fact, the type goes all the way back to World War II with the M-1943 cap. The Sun Tripper cap from Sunday Afternoons however, is a new take on the design. Using UPF 50+ material, the cap is lightweight and integrates mesh vents as well as a wicking sweatband. Additionally, there is an internal crown pocket. The cap also features an interesting folding clam shell bill feature that forms a permanent crease down the center of the brim which aids in storing the cap. It is very comfortable and the size is adjustable with a fixed barrel lock and bungie shock cord.

The Sun Tripper is available in tan/Gray and Juniper/Gray (shown). For more information visit Sunday Afternoons.

TAD’s Alter Ego

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

We are big fans of Triple Aught Designs here at Soldier Systems Daily and every once in awhile we will get an email from a reader telling us about a new discovery that TAD Gear has an alter ego called Rocket World. Yes we know, and yes it is really cool.

In addition to providing a venue for non-tactical products, Rocket World is a vehicle for the folks at TAD’s other passion; high end figures and collectible toys. Their centerpiece is the “Insurgents Wilderness Gruppo” or IWG, a group of evolved animals who seek revenge on humans who kill endangered species.

 "I n s u r g e n t s W i l d e r n e s s G r u p p o " Titus

In addition to figures, the theme is also carried out in art, clothing, and patches and pins.

Rocket World has been recently featured on several gadget websites and the IWG line of toys has long been a favorite of collectors. In fact, as new projects are released they sell out very quickly.

Check out what everyone is raving about at www.rocketworld.org.

EOTAC’s Field Vest

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Recognizing the versatility of the Field Jacket, EOTAC created a sleeveless version that retains the carrying capacity of the original yet is intended for warmer days or to complement other clothing for concealed carry.

There are four large cargo pockets on the front of the vest featuring side bellows and drain holes. The pockets have elastic webbing on the inside to secure smaller items like magazines or a flashlight as well as tuck away flaps with adjustable snaps. The top pockets also feature vertical zippered “Napoleon” security pockets. Internally, the Field Vest has four pockets with elastic loops for securing additional gear. Finally, a padded collar eases heavy loads and the front of the vest closes with a two-way YKK zipper.

Manufactured from 9 ounce all-cotton Iron Twill, the fabric is treated with DuPont Teflon® fabric protector. Shown in Lizard pattern, the Field vest will also be available in OD Green, Coyote Brown, and Black from www.eotac.com as well as retailers such as Gander Mountain and Grey Group Training.

Torso Heating for Dexterity in the Cold System

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

The name might be a mouthful but the concept is promising. Researchers at Canada’s Department of National Defence have developed a fitted battery-powered vest with a built-in thermostat. The system is designed to warm the torso to the point that the body can keep fingers warm on its own and negates the need for handwear as insulation.

The vest uses a built-in control system to monitor the wearer’s finger temperature, and turns up the heat when they’re chilly. This fools the core into thinking that the body is overheating, triggering an automatic response to send warm blood to the extremities.

Researchers have already demonstrated a prototype of the vest with Soldiers who disassembled and reassembled their rifles in -25° C conditions without difficulty.

Defense Research and Development Canada is interested in licensing the technology to the outdoor and sporting goods industries. Let’s hope someone in the Soldier Systems industry integrates the technology as well.

Interestingly, DARPA in conjunction with Standford Research Institute developed the “Glove” which does exactly the opposite. The hand is placed inside a cylinder with a rubberized cuff and a vacuum forms around the hand and cools blood which fills the capillaries. The blood is then in turn circulated through the body and cools the core. Performance is greatly enhanced in as little as five minutes of use.

Magpul Dynamics Patch Panel Ballcap

Magpul Dynamics has introduced a new ‘One size fits all’ adjustable cap that integrates new concepts we have never seen before. It is very well thought out and has four velcro panels to accommodate patches: a large 2.75 x 5″ patch up front, a small 1 x 1.5″ on top, a 1.5 x 5″ on the rear, and a smaller .75 x 2.25″ on the adjustment strap.

The velcro patches breathe and the interior is smooth and free of anything that might irritate the scalp, particularly while wearing ear pro.

The cap is currently available in Flat Dark Earth and Black but the FDE is lighter than that found on most weapons accessories.

Magpul Dynamics Logo is Embroidered on Cap

There is a Magpul Dynamics logo embroidered tone on tone on the right rear of the cap.

Rumor has it that this isn’t the last specialized product to be introduced by Magpul. This limited run is available now from MAGPUL.

EOTAC’s Lizard Pattern Field Jacket

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

We told you that EOTAC has a couple of tricks up their sleeve. One of them is a new colorway. Last fall we dropped the news that EOTAC was working on French Lizard pattern. Initially, they developed the material to give their Field Jacket, based on the French Algerian combat suit, a proper tribute by reproducing the camo pattern made famous by the French Foreign Legion. However, as you will see soon, it will also be applied to other newly developed products.
