Sunday, July 28th, 2013Last year I was approached by the Mad Duo to assist with a book project that became, “Attack of the Zombie Hippies” an ebook for Kindle. The goal of the Project was two-fold. First, have a good time combining short stories and tactical how-to articles. And second, to raise money for the Independence Fund which is a 100% volunteer non-profit for wounded troops. One of their projects is providing all-terrain wheel chairs.
Now, they’ve donated their first $1000 to the Independence Fund. If you want to help out, purchase a copy of “Attack of the Zombie Hippies” for Kindle. If anything, it’s a nice distraction for a Sunday afternoon. And, it helps some of our brothers and sisters who gave some of themselves for the rest of us.
Donate to the Son Tay Raid Historical Project

The Son Tay Raid is one of the most significant events in American military history. Planning and training took place at Eglin AFB in Florida in 1970. Now, a group is raising money to move the last remaining building that housed the force as it prepared for the raid. They want to move it to the new 7th Group compound and turn it into a heritage center.
This project is to save and restore the last remaining barracks used during the planning of the Son Tay Raid. The Son Tay Raid, conducted in 1970, is a significant event in Special Forces and Joint Military Operations history. The barracks is currently scheduled for demolition under a footprint reduction plan. We want to relocate it to the nearby 7th Special Forces Group area on Eglin Air Force Base and restore it into a heritage center, dedicated to the history of the Son Tay Raid and the Special Forces.
Initially the building relocation will cost between $65 and $115k. This is dependent on variables such as the presence of asbestos, power line movement, etc. The building will then require renovation to bring it up to current construction codes and building the history displays. The follow on work has not yet been estimated as we hope to use internal labor for as much as possible.
