OR – Powertraveller

There was lots of power storage and generation at OR. One company was outside in the sun, showing off their wares. Powertraveller’s Powermonkey-eXtreme utilizes their MPPT technology and just won the German Outdoor Red Dot Award.

Waterproof for up to 30 minutes in 1 m of water, the powermonkey-eXtreme boasts a 9000 mAh capacity Lithium Polymer battery making it capable of recharging most 5V devices, including an iPhone up to 6 times, a Garmin Edge 800 up to 6 times and standard mobiles up to 12 times.

The powermonkey-eXtreme has two output channels; one channel outputs 700mAh max (standard USB) as well as a DC port offering 2.1 Amps max to support Apple iPads and other tablet computers. It can be recharged in three ways; via the universal mains charger, via the solar panel, or via USB. It holds a charge for a long time meaning you can leave it for up to 1 year and it will still hold 75% of its charge.

OR – Suunto Quest

We’ve always been big fans of Suunto as they offer military versions of many of their models. The new Quest is a wristop training device and, since we assert that service members are athletes, it seems like a good fit.

Compatible with www.movescount.com, which not only offers workout programs but can store and analyze training data. Additionally, Moves Count allows you to customize what data you see on your Quest.

The Quest includes real-time heart rate monitoring, interval timers, and a stopwatch with laps, which can be recorded by tapping the touchscreen. It offers nine language options and a simple, three button interface. It is also compatible with other Suunto training tools including the Foot POD Mini for running cadence as well as speed and distance info as well as the Bike POD or Suunto GPS POD for accurate speed and distance measurement in a variety of sports.

Artillery Pry Bar System

The Artillery Pry Bar System is modular, allowing the user to combine handles, fulcrums, and blades to increase reach and get at some tough problems. As you can see in the video below, it works great for destruction. However, it might work well for some tactical applications. It’s made from great materials: zinc-plated tempered steel blades (durability), steel handles (durability), fiberglass handles, vinyl foam handle grip (all-weather comfort). G-Shock Mudman

The other day a reader asked about a G-Shock we had written about. It got us to thinking about watches so we thought we’d tell you about this one. It’s become fairly popular with certain elements of the military. The Casio G9000MS-1 or G-Shock Mudman is a military-inspired watch that combines features from the popular ORIGIN and MASTER OF G line-ups.

It has a molded back cover and variable durometer urethane covered bezel and buttons to prevent foreign particles, such as mud, sand, or oil from entering the watch or accumulating between the back case and wearerâ€™s wrist. The Mudman features 200M water resistance, world time, dual auto EL backlight with afterglow, twin stopwatches, and count down timer.

BushHawk Shoulder Mount

Turn your camera into a weapon. Think of the BushHawk Shoulder Mount as a buttstock for your camera that really steadies your shot. While this is more of a figurative sense, a photograph can be very powerful, so why not get it right. According to the user who recommended the BushHawk to me, it is great for use with large lenses and for focusing on the action. It is also lightweight and can be put into action more quickly than a tripod. The downside? It looks like a rifle so be careful.

Echo Niner Camera Strap

We just found out about Echo Niner and their Camera Strap. It was designed by a professional photographer and incorporates a couple of interesting features. For example, the strap is lined with a non-slip material to keep it in place even when moving. Additionally, the single point of adjustment allows the photographer to quickly configure the strap to best suit conditions. The strap can even be set up as a hand strap.

Casio G-Shock X-Large Military Play Set Limited Edition Watch

With its mix of olive drab, coyote and khaki coloring, the G-Shock Military Play Set LE Watch looks very much like a tactical watch, and its ruggedness and large volume of features help to further this claim. The Military Play G-Shock is shock resistant, water resistant up to 200M, features a high-intensity LED and a large digital display area. Its powered by a CR2025 battery with an approximate life of 7 years. It can be programed to display up to four different cities’ times, from a list of 48 cities spanning 31 time zones, with city code display and full DST support. Additionally, this watch also features 5 independent alarms, a stopwatch that measures down to 1/100th of a second, a countdown timer that measures down to 1/10th of a second, and a full auto calender (pre-programmed until the year 2099).
