Mainstay Berry Compliant glove producer Ansell Hawkeye has transformed into ActivArmr Mission Critical Gear. As part of the line they have the ActivArmr Cold Weather Combat Glove which is Team Soldier Certified. It is a three layer glove consisting of a Kevlar/Nomex blend outer layer, a Gore-tex membrane, and an insulative, anti-microbial liner. It is a gauntlet design with an adjustable cuff and features reinforced, textured leather palms, fingertips, and knuckles. The glove also incorporates a loop to attach them to your gear.
You have to remember that this a cold weather glove (0° to 40° F) with a Gore-tex liner combined with insulation so you are going to sacrifice some tactility. It’s he nature of the beast for a traditionally cut glove.
Available in Foliage Green, Desert Tan, and Black in sizes Small – XXLarge.
Some very exciting news from Line of Fire. At SHOT Show, they are unveiling their new Line of Fire Grip System. They’ve partnered with TangoDown and US PALM to introduce several new products that are designed to accept TEGS tape in order to take full advantage of the Technology Enhanced Grip System (TEGS). TEGS is a patented micro-replication technology developed by 3M that provides superior grip in both wet and dry conditions. Much like a gecko’s palm, it has thousands of tiny hooks that mesh with one another.
Additionally, LOF is introducing 9 new glove models as well as improvements to their existing line. Visit them in booth #25513.
215 Gear is introducing has introduced two new glove styles at 1800 EST today. Both feature loops at the cuff of the short gauntlet, suede palms and look to be FR. The only visible difference is that one style has reinforced knuckles and the other doesn’t.
From the website:
Designed as a medium weight, full featured glove for Special Operations use. Kevlar thread and base layer protect the Operator from cuts; as well as fire and heat protection up to 800°F. The ergonomic cut of this glove does not have long fingers or short thumbs, as many import gloves do. Split leather palms and reinforcements allow for maximum dexterity, while providing outstanding traction in wet conditions. The cuff stops at the wrist, for less heat retention, while adding an elastic cuff for noise reduction, while donning and doffing. We have gone a step further by adding a Zoombang™ pad across the knuckles, providing ultimate protection to the area while working. The polymer in Zoombang™ padding is also referred to as Shear Thickening Substance. The shear thickening property is one of the key attributes that allow the pads to react to energy the way they do, which is to stiffen in relation to the energy applied. The combined properties of the Polymer/Shear Thickening/Viseoelastic material, resulting in a new type of protection that will react to the environment around whatever it’s protecting. At rest, Zoombang™ will simply conform to the exact shape of whatever it is supporting. Add energy, in the form of shock, and the material will instantly stiffen. Low profile carabineer loop for hanging on kit. Available in Coyote.
Lifetime Warranty, Made in the U.S.A
There are a lot of TacHackers out there reading SSD who are just looking for a new material to experiment with as well as that next project. Sparkfun Electronics is offering Conductive Thread Bobbins consisting of 60 feet of stainless steel thread. This is a great opportunity for those interested in getting into e-textiles and a good entry project is to modify of existing gloves for use with touch screen smartphones.

Outdoor Research has introduced two new styles of handwear that offer the ability to use a touch screen device without having to take off your gloves. Integrating TouchTecâ„¢ technology, the Ambit glove is a fully seam taped, gauntlet style glove. Insulated with EnduraLoftâ„¢, the liner is made from waterproof/breathable Ventiaâ„¢ Plus. In addition to the Ambit there is also a lightweight glove called the Sensor which is offered in both mens and womens sizing.
I tried out a pair briefly during a sales call over the summer. While I can’t speak to the glove’s warmth in various temperatures I can say that I was pleased to be able to control my iPhone while wearing an insulated glove.
