The owner not only promotes Eastern Woodland Native American history but also makes eighteenth century style weaponry and accoutrements, particularly tomahawks, axes, flintlocks, knives, war clubs and powder horns. Is this site cool or what?
One of the brands that impressed us at the recent “BLADE Show” in Atlanta was Tactical Innovations Engineering. They specialize in Kydex. Sure, there are lots of folks working in Kydex, but TIE has taken it to an art form. Just take a look at their wares.
They offer sheaths for fixed blade knives as well as specialized carriers for folders, pistol magazines, flashlights, and other accessories. Unique designs are had by combining shapes, cut outs, and overlays of different colors. With Kydex, the application is really only limited by the imagination. Additionally, all of their designs can be customized by combining colors so no two sheaths have to be alike. TIE can also engineer an attachment solution to accommodate virtually any style of carry.
TIE has one other surprise up its sleeve. In the photos you can see that on some designs there are additional layers of Kydex material. While they look great, these are also used to lock the item into the sheath.
Designed to be worn in places where are knives are frowned upon, the MU-6 Cylcops from Mantis Knives made quite a hit at the recent BLADE Show. It hangs from a chain around the neck. To put it into action, simply pull down and away. Once deployed the Hawkbill blade resembles a talon and is wielded with a finger inserted into the handle.
With five colors to choose from (Black is sold out) a man could use one too, but when it’s blinged out like this one, it doesn’t belong anywhere but hanging around a Lady’s neck.
Tactical Fanboy purchased a Po’gn knife from Bawidamann Blades at last weekend’s Blade Show. This is his impression.
Bawidamann was in full force at BLADE show, displaying both awesome pin-up art and awesome blades. Although I was practically drooling over the Randgridr they had on display (it’s a modern-day trench knife; what’s not to love?), I went with the cord wrapped Po’gn you see above. Made from “154 cm ground or chisel ground” steel, this knife features an overall length of 7.25″ with a blade length of 3 3/8″, and uses paracord as a handle material. It’s light-weight, concealable, and comes with its own Kydex sheath. Simply put, its one bad-ass blade.

We were able to take a closer look at the Gerber Cable Dawg at Warrior Expo West. It is an impressive tool designed specifically for military Information Technology specialists but in our conversations with readers we have come to realize that it has just as much applicability in the civilian market. It features a Wire cutter, CAT5 jacket cutter, RJ45 Crimper Head, Wire strippers, Knife blade, Magnetic driver extension with tool heads. Additionally, the handles are crafted from glass filled nylon to help reduce weight and the side of the handle that houses the driver extension and tool heads can be removed.
Gerber products are available for agency and unit purchase through www.ADSinc.com/Gerber.
