Magpul’s New Rigger Framelock Knife Available For Order on 11 April

Friday, April 5th, 2019

This is a Warning Order that Magpul will release the first tranche of 200 of their Rigger Framelock Knives, first revealed just before SHOT Show. The blade is made from CPM S35VN and features a Modified Wharncliffe design with Tapered Dual Bevel Grind. The grip is Titanium, along with the frame and pocket clip.

Great news, right? Now here’s where it gets serious. They are only releasing 200 and they’ll be $425 each. The order button will go live at 2PM Eastern on the 11th of April, 2019. Limit one per customer and each will feature a laser engraved serial number.

If you miss out on this one, Magpul plans to give several more chances to get one, with 200 more knives in a slightly different configuration released every few months for four more versions. However, this will be the only time this all black version will be offered.

I can only imagine how many people are going to call folks they know at Magpul, trying to get an in. But truth be told, I’d try it too, if I thought it would work. It won’t.

Introducing the Nautilus-Alpha from Terrain 365

Rust-Proof Knife for Serious Use in Water Environments

Terrain 365™ introduces their Nautilus-Alpha knife model Monday March 18, 2019. A heavy duty fixed blade knife made from a solid piece of their Terravantium™ super-alloy, which is impervious to any rust, corrosion, pitting, or staining in any known natural environments. The other significant characterisitc to this super-alloy is its ability to hold an edge longer than any titanium blade alloy found in many dive knives, as well as any known steel blade alloy available. The Nautilus-Alpha is a knife designed for a life around, on, and under water. An oven cured, textured expoxy is applied to the handle and a hand made Kydex sheath with belt clip is included.  The Nautilus-Alpha is made in the USA.

The Nautilus-Alpha-2 will retail for $345.00 and available in black and orange colors as pictured.

“The Terrain 365 Nautilus-Alpha was born from a request made by commercial and military divers for durable knife that simply would never rust, keep an edge longer than any typical blade alloy found in dive knives, and also non-magnetic. Many dive knives use a titaniumn alloy which do perform very well in the area of corrosion, but as most users know, without a special carbidized edge application, titanium blades become dull very quickly with any use. There are some very corrosion resistant stainless steel alloys available, but as they are all ferrous based, they are magnetic. Terravantium as a proprietary form of dendritic cobalt meets and exceeds the requested requirements Terrain 365 received for a dive knife. Producing the dendritic cobalt super-alloy required Terrain 365 to invest in specialized production equipment and processes. They cost of the alloy itself is quite high but for the resulting performance qualities, Terrain 365 finds it superior in just about all practical considerations for a cutting tool.”

Terrain 365™ launches the Nautilus-Alpha via their website at 12:00pm Pacific Time, March 18, 2019.

IWA 19 – Moorschmied Wurmrot Damask Forging

Saturday, March 9th, 2019

This Damascus forged knife from Moorschmied caught my eye. They’ve combined copper into the tool steel blade, creating a very pleasing aesthetic.

This example has a handle made from 4,000 year old oak recovered from the Teufelsmoor bog.

StatGear – LEDGE Slip-Joint Pocket Knife

Monday, February 18th, 2019

The LEDGE is an EDC pocket knife desgined by Brooklyn-based StatGear, and is currently up for funding on Kickstarter. Designed as a modern take on the classic, non-locking slip-joint folding knife, the LEDGE features a D2 steel blade with a modified sheepsfoot profile, and an extended nail nick that runs along the spine of the blade for easier opening. The handle is made of textured G10 scales for a positive grip, with a dual-layer inlay that gives the knife a distinct look. The LEDGE is finished with a reversible pocketclip, which allow for a deep, tip up carry on the user’s preferred side.

While a non-locking mechanism may seem a bit outdated, one of the main benefits of StatGear having designed the LEDGE with a slip-joint action is that it is legal in countries like Canada and the UK that have more stringent laws regarding carry knives.
