American Knife & Tool Institute Increases Lobbying Efforts to Ensure Protection of Lawful Knife Owners

Organization to Focus on Federal and State Efforts Including the Knife Owners’ Protection Act, Repeal of Restrictions on Auto-Open Knives, and Preemption

Las Vegas, NV – January 19, 2016 – The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) today announced its plans to increase its lobbying efforts in order to prompt reform of knife laws in 2016.

To accomplish this reform, AKTI has brought on ADS Ventures, a Boston, MA and Washington, DC-based government and public affairs firm with a practice specializing in defense and national security issues. The team, headed by Liesl Grebenstein and supported by Savannah Kelleher, has been working with AKTI for several years, but the new contract will enhance efforts focused on federal efforts to pass the Knife Owners’ Protection Act (KOPA), and state efforts to ease restrictions on auto-open knives, as well as preemption. The legislative reform agenda will ensure the protection of knife owners’ Constitutional rights.

“AKTI has an aggressive legislative reform agenda in 2016,” said CJ Buck, AKTI’s Board President. “We are confident that through AKTI’s leadership, and the work of ADS Ventures, it will be a successful year for the organization as we further our mission to ensure your right to own, carry, and use knives and edged tools.”

For nearly 20 years, AKTI has served as the go-to resource for knife owners looking to ensure that they comply with all local, state, and federal laws related to knives. One of the biggest complaints and points of confusion AKTI hears about from lawful knife owners involves the patchwork laws related to the ownership and possession of knives. While citizens are making every effort to comply with patchwork state and local laws, it has become clear that there is the need for comprehensive reform.

“AKTI and its members have been successful in clarifying and correcting poorly conceived and ambiguous legislation and educating legislators on knife issues on behalf of all knife owners,” said David Fee, AKTI’s Legislative Chair. “We support reasonable, responsible legislation and measured non-partisan efforts to resolve issues. We’re excited to see how we can further this objective in this and coming years.”

SOG Issues a Pair of 30th Anniversary Knives

Saturday, January 16th, 2016

Limited number of commemorative Tech Bowies and Tridents will be available                                                                                                                                                                               ?
Lynnwood, WA. – SOG® Specialty Knives and Tools will kick off 2016 by celebrating its 30th anniversary, and as part of the salute to three decades of producing some of the world’s most used knives and tools, SOG will be issuing special commemorative editions of two of its most iconic knives.

SOG’s commemorative fixed-blade offering is the Tech Bowie, a 6.4”-inch bladed beast of a knife with an easy gripping Kraton rubber handle. Made with AUS-8 steel, the sleek lines of the Tech Bowie harken back to the original SOG knife used by U.S. special operation forces in the jungles of Vietnam. Retail price for the special edition Tech Bowie is $280.

The tried-and-true Trident will be SOG’s folding version of its commemorative knife. Featuring SOG’s patented SOG Assisted Technology for a quick and smooth opening, a 3.75-inch AUS-8 steel blade and a seatbelt cutter built into the handle, the Trident has gained legions of fans for its versatility and practical applications. Retail price for the special edition Trident is $216.

Both special edition knives feature tiger stripe camouflage pattern on the blades – an homage to the camouflage pattern used by the MACV-SOG group. Each blade has the pattern etched and engraved giving a multi-layered design that is both visual and tactile. In addition, knives are numbered, engraved with 30th anniversary logo, and have both the current and original SOG logos. Each knife comes in a wood presentation/display box with commemorative patch, challenge coin, and certificate signed by SOG founder Spencer Frazer.

There will be a production run of just 300 for both commemorative knives and they will only be available at www.sogknives.com and select retailers beginning in February 2016.

““The Tech Bowie and Trident have consistently been among our most popular knives,” said Nando Zucchi, SOG’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “It makes sense to put this anniversary twist on two of our exemplary favorites.”

Frazer began SOG in 1986 by selling a replica version of the Japanese Bowie Knife used by an elite Special Forces military group from the Vietnam era – the Studies and Observation Group. That one knife, first advertised in Soldier of Fortune magazine, launched a company that now produces the favorite models of specialty knives and tools used by the military, law enforcement, industrial tradesmen and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. As SOG turns 30 in 2016, SOG brings to the market new offerings in knives, multi tools and tactical transport packs.

“It’s amazing to see how SOG has grown from its humble start 30 years ago,” said Frazer. “My goal in the beginning was simply to produce quality products that honored their military history. It still is, and I never would have dreamt that SOG would become what it is today – a brand synonymous with high end men’s gear and distributed throughout the world. It’s thanks to our customers that made this possible.”

Panteao Introduces A New Custom Knife By Battle Horse Knives

Wednesday, December 30th, 2015

Columbia, SC, December 28, 2015 – Panteao Productions introduces the new MRTK made exclusively for Panteao by Battle Horse Knives. It was developed with the combined input of Dan Coppins of Battle Horse Knives and the instructors from the Panteao Make Ready to Survive Series. The goal was to create a workhorse of a knife that could handle a wide range of uses and scenarios. The MRTK does just that and then some.

Dan Coppins is Co-Owner of Battle Horse Knives and has been an avid hunter for over forty years. Dan has three children and six grandchildren that he enjoys passing on his hunting and outdoor knowledge to. Dan also enjoys making and designing knives that will bring his company to the next level.

“We were introduced to Dan by instructors from the Panteao Survival Series and I was extremely impressed with his work and attention to detail,” said Fernando Coelho, president of Panteao Productions. Fernando continued, “His no nonsense approach to knives and knife making inspired us to film a video on selecting a knife and during those discussions, the MRKT came about. I’m very happy with the way it came out. It truly is a beast.”

The blade is made from 0-1 Tool Steel. It’s an oil hardening (cold work) steel that provides deep hardening and high toughness properties. It’s one of the most forgiving of any knife steel and produces blades of excellent quality. The MRTK features a full tang design for maximum strength and durability. The blade itself is a saber grind. That type of grind is known for being strong, heavy-duty, and good for handling a wide range of tough jobs. Everything from field dressing game to splitting wood, the MRTK can tackle it. You also get great control with the secondary convex edge of the blade. The spine of the knife has a 90 degree angle which is ideal for creating tinder or making a spark with a rock or ferrocerium rod. The handle is made from a combination of dark red G-10 and black Micarta, attached with brass & stainless steel Bird’s Eye Bolts and Heavy Duty Epoxy. The finger groove helps give you a solid and secure grip and the overall shape of the handle helps reduce the chance of hot spots in your hand after extended use. A 3/8” lanyard hole is perfect for paracord, leather, or cordage. To secure the MRKT and keep it within easy reach is the Kydex sheath with a leather backer. The knife is secured in place within the sheath with a thumb lock system. Pull the lock up and the knife is secure in the sheath. Push it down and you have access to your knife. The leather backer helps make your sheath quiet when moving around.
