SureFire In The Movies

Friday, January 24th, 2014

SureFire illumination tools have been featured in some of the best war, cop, and action movies ever made. (It all started with the red-laser equipped handgun in The Terminator.) This use of SureFire gear is no coincidence because it is the top choice of the elite military and law enforcement teams portrayed. And propmasters rely on SureFire’s legendary quality and reliability for these multi-million-dollar productions. Enjoy!

OR – Petzl Tactikka Plus

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014

At Outdoor Retailer I got a chance to take a closer look at the Petzl Tactikka + we previewed about two weeks ago before SHOT Show.

20140123-100754.jpg

As you recall there are 2 models. The Tactikka + and the Tactikka + RGB. This is the first major upgrade to the Tactikka in a decade and they’ve not only improved functionality but also increased lumens by 140%! The difference between the two models is obviously price but the standard Tactikka + offers only white and red light while the Tactikka + boasts red! green or blue as well as white light. There are also slight differences in lumen output between the two models.

They will be available April 15th, 2014.

Thyrm – Costa SwitchBack Tactical Flashlight Rings

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014

thyrm sell sheet v2.1

Thyrm is pleased to announce the launch of the Costa SwitchBack™ Tactical Flashlight Rings in collaboration with Chris Costa of Costa Ludus.

IMG_1026

Chris brought his extensive operational and instructional experience to the SwitchBack™ design, evolving it into a very flexible, tactical tool that bridges the gap between flashlight and weapon-light.

SwitchBacks™ mount securely between the tailcap and flashlight body allowing for:
-Faster Deployment
-Enhanced Retention During Firearm Manipulation
-Natural, Two-Handed Shooting

IMG_1069

“Many of the original flashlight techniques developed by Ken Good and Dave Maynard are still relevant and we wanted a product that would work with their techniques in addition to newer methods of employment. Likewise, we have a lot of respect for instructors like Matt Graham who showed the community the benefits of additional retention features on flashlights. The SwitchBack™ builds off these techniques and enhancements, taking it to the next level of capability and durability.”-Chris Costa

SHOT Show – SureFire XVL2

Monday, January 20th, 2014

We continue our SHOT Show coverage with something interesting from SureFire. For those of you unfamiliar with SureFire’s naming convention, the XVL2 uses a X-series body, a Vampire head that manually switches between white and IR light, as well as 2 lasers. In this case it’s IR & Visible Red but they are considering offering an IT & Green model once they nail down the final color for the X400 Green. Additionally, SureFire is is planning to offer this as both a restricted mil version as well as a civilian legal Class I version.

The XVL2 is a single cell 3v light so admittedly, it is only expected to throw 120 lumens for the light component and 100 mW for the laser. The lasers are slaved to one another so when you adjust one for zero, they both move.

As for switching, the unit boasts a top mounted Dome switch ala the PEQ-15 as well as a port for a Pressure switch. Additionally, SureFire will offer DG-style switches.

There is currently still no hard launch date for the XLV2 but the fact that it was in the new product showcase tell us that they do plan to release it this year.

SHOT Show – Petzl

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Petzl has introduced Berry Compliant headbands which makes them easier to procure for military organizations. DoD organizations are not allowed to purchase clothing and textile items with a contract value in excess of $200,000. This restriction is extended to procurements via TLS because the threshold is applied to the annual contract rather than each individual sale.

The bands will be offered in Black and Desert and there will be separate models for the Tactikka and Strix.

SHOT Show – Cejay Engineering

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

This package consists of the FlexLight-Stick 3.3 and 4.6 (which refers to the length) paired up with the new MK Battery Carrier. These lights use the A76 battery (which has an NSN) that is common to many items. Unfortunately, there’s never really been a good way to store them. Cejay Engineering came up with design to handily carry 6 batteries.

20140116-084024.jpg

The FlexLight Stick is available in the long and short models you see above as well as a short version that flashes. They less than an ounce and are available in a wide variety of colors including Red, White, Green, IR and UV along with others. Eachofthese items is available on the website. If you don’t find what you need, ask.

The Neptune is a wrist mounted Multi-function strobe. It is waterproof certified to 150′ and offers both IR, white and blue illumination. Unlike other strobes, it also offers constant lighting but with a twist. The user can dim the light down or bring it up based on conditions. Not only will it offer lighting for marking but also illumination. Very cool product.
