FirstSpear Friday Focus – Short Incursion Chest Rig 6/12

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Back in 2011 we discussed the FirstSpear Short Incursion Chest Rig or SICR when it first debuted as a MOLLE compatible product. In this week’s Friday Focus, we’ll show you the updated version that incorporates 6/12 technology as well as a kangaroo-style pouch on the body side which also allows the user to access the inside of both 6/12 panels. The laser cut details make it even more lightweight than the original and yet it still accepts PALS equipped pouches.

Velocity Systems – SCARAB Light Plate Carrier

Tuesday, October 7th, 2014

SCARAB Front

The SCARAB Light is a newly released plate carrier from Velocity Systems. According to Velocity Systems, the SCARAB Light was designed to meet unique user needs and solve industry-wide armor carrier issues. It features a color matching Velcro loop Admin Panel on the upper chest, a front kangaroo pouch, and integrated SwiftClip buckles for rapid don/doff of auxiliary chest worn equipment.

SCARAB Shoulder

The shoulder straps are designed to alleviate common fit issues seen with traditional sewn fixed angle shoulder straps. They are made from ULTRAcomp, with an articulate D-ring which allows them to swivel to sit correctly and comfortably on any user. I’ve used a developmental version of the vest and I can attest to the design. The straps are adjustable for length and have a padded sleeve, which can also be used to route cables.

SCARAB Armor

The SCARAB Light is initially configured for standard front flap opening. It can also be set up by the user for dual or single quarter flap opening. The flaps can be easily and quickly reconfigured if one style of opening works better for a particular mission.

SCARAB Rear

The upper back features color matching Velcro loop for identification. The rear is also equipped to accept Zip-On Back Panels of various configurations.

Currently available in Coyote Brown and Multicam; Black and Ranger Green will soon follow. Made in the USA.

Dunamis Gear – Cargo Hanger Pouches

Monday, October 6th, 2014

DSC05036

Dunamis Gear is a fairly new player in the outdoor and tactical gear industry, with their initial product offering being a line of Cargo Hanger general use pouches. The entire line is constructed of 500D Cordura nylon, and features military grade materials and ITW Nexus hardware. The pouches come in two different styles, Front Zip and Top Zip. The pouches utilize G-hooks to attach to PALS webbing and other compatible systems, which allows for quick attach and detach. Durability isn’t an issue, as the hooks are bar-tacked to the seams, and also connected to the compression straps. This removes stress from the seams when the straps are drawn tight, placing all the stress directly on the strap system.

Front Zip Cargo Hangers

Front Zip Cargo Hanger pouches are the larger of the two pouch styles. Their size allows these pouches to function well as auxiliary storage outside the main compartment of a pack. Due to the G-hook attachment, if access to any covered front pockets is required, one can simply and quickly unhook a single side and swing the pouch out of the way. This pouch also functions well off the pack, thanks to a flat underside design which rests on the ground, allowing quick access to contents. Pull tabs at the end of the zipper track make operation of the dual sliders easier. In addition to functioning as a modular general purpose pouch, the Front Zip Cargo Hangers are also designed to be used as an E&E or mini-duffel, and even as a day carry shoulder bag, when used with the optional shoulder strap.

They can also be outfitted with custom grab handles which fold away into stash pockets.

Front Zip Cargo Hangers come standard in three sizes:

Small – 12″ x 5″ x 4″
Medium – 13″ x 7″ x 5″
Large- 15″ x 8″ x 6″

Top Zip Cargo Hangers

The Top Zip Cargo Hangers are the smaller of the two style options. The heavy duty #10 YYK zipper coil keeps the general shape of the opening even with an empty pouch. According to the manufacturer, medical personnel have expressed interest in this feature, as it allows for hassle free access to contents and replacing items. The Top Zip features ladder lock buckles which reduce the overall weight, and loop locks which route the strap and provide strap management. Like the Front Zip, the zipper features tabs at the end to make operating the dual sliders easier.

Top Zip Cargo Hangers come standard in four sizes:

Small – 8″ x 5″ x 4″
Medium – 8″ x 8″ x 5″
Large – 12″ x 8″ x 5″
Wide – 8″ x 12″ x 5″

Cargo Hanger Pouches come in the following colors: Black, Coyote Brown, Foliage, Kryptek Highlander, MultiCam, OD Green, Ranger Green, Woodland, and Woodland MARPAT. In addition to the available sizes, Dunamis Gear can also make custom sizes for an additional fee. Made in the USA in Walla Walla, Washington.

FirstSpear Friday Focus – R37 Rifle Wrap

Friday, October 3rd, 2014

IMG_1788

Each week we focus on a different FirstSpear product and I’ve been wanting to share the R37 Rifle Wrap but we needed the right combination of photos and video to really show you what was up with it. Looks like the AV club at FS really came through this time.

riflewrap_IMG_1927

It does so much; shooting mat, weapons case, drag bag.

r37_IMG_1838

Its exterior incorporates attachment points for 3D camouflage to aid in signature disruption and a reinforced webbing attachment point for drag and haul straps located at the forward taper of the wraps exterior.

IMG_1857

The R37 can be transported by the FS 2” Standard Break-Away Sling, ECP Shoulder Straps or our Padded Speed Bag Shoulder Straps.

The Rifle Wrap can transport long-guns or carbines with a simple folding procedure.

FS_v7_MG_3429

FS_v7_MG_3433

When laid out flat the R37 is a comfortable pad to shoot from and two 6/12 pocket attachment fields provide area for optional pockets to store Binos, Wind Gauges and other essential items of target engagement.

The FirstSpear Exigent Circumstance Pack can be attached to the outside of the Rifle Wrap to give you some sustainment capability.

carryhandleIMG_1923

There are a lot of cool features in this design but the Tubes on the handles make it very adaptable for different weapons because you can alter the balance point. In addition to the different length configurations, you need to know that it is sized to fit into a variety of hard sided weapons storage cases. The ECP can also be attached to the exterior of the R37 during transport (ideally when your wearing the R37 as a backpack.)

Offered in Black, Coyote, ranger Green and MultiCam.

Now for the special offer. When you buy the R37 Rifle Wrap this weekend FS will ship it with a free Blast Mat (Black or Coyote) which attaches directly to the wide end of the R37 Rifle Wrap and is designed to take the brunt of muzzle blast and keep dust and debris from flying up. The corners can be weighted down to keep it in place. No code necessary.

Direct Action gear fielded with Polish SOF operators - still from promo video

Direct Action was formed with the backing of 30 years of industry experience from Helikon-Tex. Professional team of designers, prototype makers, and production specialists have all worked on making the products that make up the Direct Action line. All gear in the Direct Action line has been fielded by Special Operations units for end-user trials and evaluations, after initial in-house testing. This input has allowed DA to quickly incorporate suggested improvements to their clothing and gear.

The result is a streamlined, flexible system which interfaces with all components: weapons, load bearing equipment, backpacks, jackets, duty uniforms, and camouflage pattern, creating an effective whole, based on the firsthand, real world experience of Special Operations units.
