SilencerCo has been named to the prestigious list of Inc. Magazine’s “The INC. 500: FASTEST GROWING COMPANIES – Best Run, Most Innovative, Most Inspiring.” SilencerCo is noted among the Utah Top 100 companies by the Mountain West Capital Network, and additionally was named one of the “Emerging 8” Companies by Utah Business Magazine for 2 years running.

SilencerCo manufactures firearms silencers, and has increased its market share by educating consumers about the legalities of silencers. This education, coupled with manufacturing high end silencers, embodies its main mission – hearing protection.

“To be recognized as one of the Top 500 Fastest Growing Companies in America is incredibly humbling,” said Josh Waldron, CEO of SilencerCo. “We built this company from the ground up with just a few employees in 2008 and today we have over 75 employees and in 2012 did over $6 million in revenue. U.S. Elite Expands GSA Capabilities With Addition Of New Brands

Thursday, September 5th, 2013

U.S. Elite have announced that they will be expanding their offerings through their General Services Administration (GSA) contract with the addition of Arc’teryx LEAF, Outdoor Research and DRIFIRE, joining the brands of Granite Gear and High Ground to their already existing GSA offerings.

GSA is a government agency that acts as a procurement vehicle for the federal government. In order to get a GSA contract, a vendor must be thoroughly vetted; which appeals to the government buyers in knowing that each brand is hand-selected, and prices have effectively been pre-negotiated. Another appeal to GSA, is that it provides an online shopping cart at gsaadvantage.gov.

“As a veteran-owned company, we understand the importance of providing the best products for the best prices to our war-fighters,” stated U.S. Elite CEO, Steve Keefer. “The addition of these top-tier brands allows us to continue to provide for those who put themselves into harm’s way for our freedoms.”

The GSA offerings through U.S. Elite’s contract, GS-07F0287W, are now available to qualified buyers through their government sales page, www.us-elitegear.com/government-sales, or email Government Sales at gs@US-EliteGear.com.

New Armor Inspection System Ensures Ballistic Plates Safe For Deploying Soldiers

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013

The Army put out a press release yesterday discussing the use of Non-Destructive Test Equipment for hard armor plates in USAREUR which saves time and money over the old process of shipping them back to CONUS to be X-rayed for cracks.

Soldiers who have deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation New Dawn, have the shared experience of being issued ballistic plates for their body armor that have been turned in by other Soldiers after their combat tours. Part of ensuring plates are combat ready involves a detailed inspection process to identify defective plates, and remove them from circulation.

Until recently, the process of ensuring plates being issued were inspected within a specific time frame meant the 21st Theater Sustainment Command spent time and money sending plates to Sierra, Calif., for inspection, before being shipped back to Europe for deploying Soldiers. The current policy only allows for plates to be issued to deploying Soldiers if they have been inspected within the previous nine months.

“What we had that needed to be scanned would be shipped back to the States,” said Carla Stovall, a logistics management specialist with the 21st TSC’s Support Operations and a native of Copperas Cove, Texas. “Anytime there was a deploying unit we would send our requirements back with the amounts that we would need and they would ship over inspected plates.”

Now, the 21st TSC has acquired an Armor Inspection System, or AIS, which is a system that uses X-rays to scan plates in order to identify deficiencies within them. Having the new system now allows for a mobile team of Non-Destructive Test Equipment, or NDTE, personnel to be flown in to inspect and certify the plates used throughout U.S. Army Europe.

“This is actually the first fixed site with an AIS that we have where we can actually jump the mobile team right into the inspection process,” said Bruce Cardell, the NDTE team lead and a native of Lakewood, N.J. “The intent is to take a mobile team, drop them into a fixed site, process all of the plates they have, and place the plates back on the same cycle and same inspection window, while at the same time taking the bad plates out of service.”

“Now the only plates that are being sent back to the states are the unserviceable plates, which will go back into circulation once they are repaired,” or be destroyed if they cannot be repaired, added Cardell.

The cost saving advantage of having a fixed AIS in Kaiserslautern is substantial, said Cardell.

“If you look at the big picture, it’s significant; the logistical cost, the transportation and the resources it requires to get things from point a to point b is enormous,” he explained.

In the past, it was common to have a large number of plates in the warehouse that were considered not issuable because of the length of time that had passed since their last inspection.

“Having available stock makes a big difference when you have deployers,” said Stovall. “We need to have the right plates for the Soldier when they’re ready to deploy so they have that peace of mind that they’re deploying with the best.”

Currently the mobile team is on the ground on Rhine Ordnance Barracks, Germany, until Oct. 8, inspecting the more than 50,000 plates from across Europe, in an effort to maximize the stock of plates eligible for deployment.

Having the NDTE inspection team on site “should be a recurring thing,” said Stovall. “All of the plates that are considered issuable will all expire at the same time so we would want to have that taken care of before the nine months are up.”

“We look at the operation as being a lifeline and gives the Soldiers and commanders the reassurance that they have the best equipment in theater,” said Cardell. “It gives them that reassurance that they have the best type of plate protecting them in the field.”

Once complete, the plates which pass inspection will be sent back to the various central issuing facilities throughout Europe, and will be ready to protect Soldiers deploying all throughout the world.

Veteran Family Receives New Home At Grand Prix Of Baltimore

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013

I am always impressed with the work that Mark Llano does on behalf of his fellow Veterans. This past weekend, SERKET Racing working with philanthropic partner Operation Homefront and sponsor Wells Fargo Capital Finance made a motor sports first. They gave away the keys to a home, mortgage free. And this is the first of three homes that will be given to Veterans and their families.

SERKET Racing made a first-time homeowner out of Veteran Army Specialist Joseph Saunders and his family this Labor Day weekend.

By working with philanthropic partner Operation Homefront and sponsor Wells Fargo Capital Finance, SERKET Racing was able to present keys to a mortgage-free home to the Veteran and his wife at the start/finish line of the Grand Prix of Baltimore. The Saunders were welcomed to the track by a sea of ecstatic race fans applauding their sacrifices for our country.

The shared mission of raising support and awareness for veterans and their families brought the SERKET Racing, Operation Homefront and Wells Fargo Capital Finance trio together. Each organization boasts programs that are uniquely designed to help veteran families conquer hardships their loved ones face upon returning home.

“Our mission at SERKET Racing is to raise funds and awareness for veterans and their families and this is our first step towards that goal,” said SERKET Racing driver and former Marine Mark Llano. “Members of the racing community in Baltimore have always been avid supporters of our troops, so we felt that hosting the event at the Grand Prix of Baltimore would be perfect. I’d also like to express my gratitude to Operation Homefront, Wells Fargo, the rest of our sponsors and our fans for their continued support of our mission — we could not do this without you.”

Operation Homefront’s participation in the ceremony gave racing fans an opportunity to show their support for America’s best and bravest. The non-profit spent this race season working closely with the SERKET Racing team to raise awareness and assistance for veterans on and off the track. Most recently the two teamed up with Hertz to award free car rental vouchers to veterans receiving homes.

Jim Knotts, President and CEO of Operation Homefront, expressed the organization’s gratitude and excitement for SERKET Racing’s support of their mission:

“Operation Homefront appreciates our ongoing partnership with Wells Fargo, and we’re thrilled to be teammates with a vet like Mark Llano,” said Knotts. “SERKET Racing’s commitment and dedication to bring awareness to our military families is obvious on many levels, and Llano and the number 24 car are great ambassadors for the needs of our military men and women.”

Wells Fargo Capital Finance also has deep-rooted ties to aiding the families of our servicemen and women. Their sponsorship of SERKET Racing has opened new avenues of opportunities to aid those who serve. This year, 25 percent of the Wells Fargo Capital Finance sponsorship funding was donated from SERKET Racing back to veterans in need.

“It is an honor for Wells Fargo to work with organizations such as SERKET Racing and Operation Homefront that strive to enrich the lives of the amazing men, women and their families who sacrifice for our country,” said Dave Marrin, head of government services, Wells Fargo Capital Finance. “Wells Fargo has been helping military members and veterans succeed financially for more than 150 years. Wells Fargo Capital Finance is proud to help military service members and veterans reach their business goals.”

The trio agrees that the opportunity to help the Saunders family and hand the keys over was worth a year of planning. SERKET Racing, Operation Homefront and Wells Fargo will next award a veteran with a home at Circuit of the Americas for the Super Endurance Weekend Sept. 20-22.

NRA Life Of Duty – Outlaw Platoon – Part 3

Saturday, August 31st, 2013

Part 3 of the NRA Life of Duty series ‘Outlaw Platoon’, based on the book of the same name, is now available online.

In 2006 Lt. Sean Parnell and the men under his leadership, known as the Outlaw Platoon, deployed to one of the most dangerous areas of Afghanistan, less than 10 miles from the Pakistani border. Their mission was to disrupt and destroy this network at all costs – to seek out enemy positions and thwart the movement of insurgent forces into and out of the safe haven of Pakistan. After a year in some of the most intense combat imaginable in a 360-degree battlefield, the only thing Sean Parnell and his men wanted to do was survive.

Danish Military Orders Additional Cobra Helmets From Revision Following Successful Use In Afghanistan

Friday, August 30th, 2013

Montreal, QC, Canada (August 29, 2013)- Revision Military, a world leader in protective soldier solutions, will provide the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) with an additional 3,000 Batlskin Cobra Helmets during Q4, 2013. As part of the 7-year contract with Revision an initial 4,335 helmets have been supplied to date. Helmets from those first deliveries were issued earlier this year to infantry and head-quarters troops deploying to Afghanistan.

tn
Returning soldiers reported that the Revision Batlskin Cobra helmet, an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene shell that includes a high-performance Modular Liner System, ergonomic Retention System and multipurpose Front Mount, delivered high satisfaction levels with the vast majority of soldiers reporting very positively on the weight, comfort and protection offered by their new helmets. The fact that the helmets are lighter in weight, with a very comfortable and adjustable lining system, while providing blunt force, blast and ballistic levels of protection higher than previous helmets, was seen as an advancement and advantage.

“Revision is proud to have delivered helmets that have performed very well during rigorous use in-theatre and is looking forward to supplying additional Danish troops with these lightweight, high-performance polyethylene helmets” said Jonathan Blanshay, CEO of Revision. “The Danish military was among the very first to identify and realize the benefits that new materials and technology would bring to soldier protection, and the first to buy and deploy the Cobra polyethylene helmet system. Recognizing the Cobra helmet technology and performance would be under severe scrutiny during the Danish deployment, we are thrilled with the users’ positive reactions to their new equipment and ready to produce this next helmet order at Revision’s Composite Center of Excellence“.

Additional Danish troops will be recipients of the Batlskin Cobra polyethylene helmet with Revision’s adjustable retention system, high-performance modular liner, multi-purpose front mount, fitted helmet cover, and front rails for accessory attachment. With the Front Mount, the three-position Visor and high-threat Mandible Guard, components which were included in the initial contract award, can be used for additional facial protection.

S.O. Tech Collage

Stars and Stripes recently published an article on James Cragg, president and CEO of S.O. Tech. It details how Cragg and his company found inspiration in Civil War-era equipment such as Union Army Captain Anson Mills’ woven cartridge belt and cavalrymen’s saddlebags when designing their gear. Cragg, having two years ago attended attended the US Cavalry School in Montana to study the gear of the Indian Wars period, and this year attended the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, has a firm understanding of the equipment of the era and how mistakes and innovations made then can be learned from to create better gear for the present.

SOFREP Acquires SpecialOperations.com

Monday, August 26th, 2013

I just found out that SOFREP has acquired the longstanding website SpecialOperations.com. Founded in the late 90s by Tom Hunter, it contained a great deal of insider SOF information. Over time Tom sold the site and its forum baca me the focal point.

Now, SOFREP plans to take SpecialOperations.com back to its roots and reinvigorate it as a SOF wiki that contains history, education and serves as a learning portal for worldwide SOF. If anyone can do it, it’s the staff at SOFREP.

I asked Brandon Webb if they were going to keep the forum and at this point he was unsure. Brandon updated me that SOCNET is a separate entity and will remain in place.

Congrats guys! I can’t wait to see the relaunch.
