SORD Australia NSN List

Australian gear manufacturer Special Operations Research & Development was founded by former members of the Australian Special Forces community. They have developed an impressive array of products for the individual Soldier. Many of their products have been issued National Stock Numbers by the ADF. The list runs the gamut from radio to dump pouches and armor to ammo carriers.

One product on the list is the Variable Armor Carrier (VAC) and it is currently issued to select Australian Forces. The VAC comes in two styles, a releasable version for water operations and a non releasable version. It holds armor and plates as well as featuring a removable cummerbund (referred to as “Wings”) which can also be armored and also incorporates a drag handle.

Go Time Triple Mag from Shellback Tactical

Made in the USA, the Go Time Triple mag accommodates three .223/5.56 type mags in a low profile carrier. Based on their popular Go Time Active Shooter Chest Rig platform, the magazines are secured with bungee pull tabs and each pouch features three rows of PALS webbing.

SplashGuard and Waterproof Liners from S.O.Tech

S.O.Tech has been really hitting it hard this year developing and releasing an entire new load carrying system called the Mission Pack System. To complement this new system, they have just released the SplashGuard Liner constructed of 420D polyurethane-coated fabric. The bag closes at the top which is rolled down and buckled shut to protect the contents from moisture as well as sand and other debris. This style features webbing on the closure to provide additional strength and durability as well a convenient carry handle.

S.O. Tech has also unveiled a waterproof bag with a water-tight closure making it a fully submersible liner. It also has an elbow valve to bleed off excess air or to inflate the liner to improve buoyancy. The liners are manufactured in accordance with MIL-0-81375B (Oral Inflation Assemblies, Survival Equipment, Inflatable).

Introducing Shellback Tactical

Actually, an introduction makes it sound like Shellback is a new company but I actually met Mike Wratten, the owner at SHOT Show 08 in Las Vegas and the company’s roots go all the way back to 2003. Shellback started out as a producer of tactical nylon products to support weapon systems but has refined that position over the last six years to concentrate on the Law Enforcement community. Specializing in gear for the “Active Shooter” scenario, their new Active Shooter Assault Platform line is designed for the worst case scenario that a cop can face. Shellback Tactical has an exclusive arrangement with Tactical Assault Gear who manufacture their products in the USA. TAG also handles distribution of all Shellback products.

SALLE Ruck

Excalibur Products Group offers the SALLE RUCK (Standard All-purpose Lightweight Loadcarrying Equipment). While the name begins with “standard”, it is anything but. First, the pack is mounted on a DEI 1606 Frame with suspension featuring Snap Dragon Buckles on the shoulder straps, sternum strap and waist belt. Additionally, the pack is manufactured from 500D cordura and has a 4000 cu in with plenty of pockets for organization.

SALLE Ruck

The main compartment has four interior pockets each capable of holding a 100oz hydration reservoir. The design also features 11 exterior pockets including a zippered accessory pocket mounted on top of the ruck, a low profile zippered flat pocket underneath the lid, four pockets on the right side of the ruck, three pockets on the left side, and two pockets in the rear integrating two interior small accessory pockets.

While the photos depict the SALLE ruck in the USAF’s new Digital Tigerstripe Pattern, it is also available in Coyote Brown, Foliage Green, Black, Multicam, UCP, Digital Desert, and Digital Woodland.

S.O.Tech Go Bag Mini

Designed for MARSOC medical personnel, the S.O.Tech Go Bag Mini is a unique hybrid mashing S.O.Tech’s popular Go Bag with a waist pack. This design allows for shoulder carriage as well as waist wear. When worn as a waist pack the bag can be easily moved from rear to front allowing access to med kits, breaching gear, and SERE kits even when wearing body armor. Additionally, the padded shoulder strap increases stability for heavy loads. When used as a go bag, the Go Bag Mini can store between seats as a tubular bag and the end pull handle gives a quick and easy grab and go. After bailing out of the vehicle, the padded shoulder strap allows for easy over-the-neck carry on the back. Double internal (against the body) zippers allow for access for bag entry while walking or running.

Internally, the main compartment has numerous elastic loops as well as a zippered mesh pocket. A large zipper and Velcro pocket on top of the pack allow for rapid access to field dressings or tools. One very distinct innovation is a hydration slot located on the shoulder strap. The shoulder strap also features PALS. The Go Bag Mini is available in Coyote Brown.
