TRG's Remagen Bridge

TRG's Remagen Bridge

TRG has been around for some time providing innovative solutions for warfighter problems. The Remagen Man Portable Bridge is one of the coolest things we have seen. Designed at the request of troops fighting house to house in Iraq, the Remagen is lightweight (91 lbs) and modular. Assembled in up to four sections (90” x 22” x 4”) the bridge can span a 28′ obstacle and with an optional fifth panel can safely extend that to 33′ while supporting a 500 lbs load. The Remagen is manufactured from carbon fiber w/aluminum-G-10 fiberglass fittings and easily assembled in the field by a three man crew in 10 minutes.

Now all of this is already pretty handy, but wait. Flip a bridge panel over and it is an assault ladder. Now THAT is cool.

Expect to see lots more coverage of Tactical & Rescue Gear in the future. Until then, check them out on the web at www.trgear.com.

Sahale Snacks

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Without a doubt our favorite travel snacks at Soldier Systems Daily come from Sahale Snacks. The only disagreement comes with which flavor is favorite. All are nut-based and the key is the mixture of natural ingredients to form new fusion flavors often combining both sweet and salty sensations. While they all are great, the Sing Buri is a classic example. Combining cashews with peanuts, pineapples, and sesame seeds all dusted with chili evokes a taste of Thailand. Highly recommended.

Recently the Editor picked up a couple of new flavors while visiting the REI flagship store in Seattle. They are from the Glazed Nut line and include Honey Almond, Almond PB&J, and Pomegranate Cashews. Once again, various types of nuts are glazed and combined with other ingredients to enhance the flavor of the mix. We tried the Honey Almond and Pomegranate Cashews and they taste great. One thing with the Honey Almond, it needs more cranberries.

Good Resource for Rations

Friday, April 10th, 2009

There has been a huge resurgence of the survival community here in the US due to the economy. What is interesting about this revival is that a whole new crop of people are involved. Countering the stereotype of guns, guns, and more guns are those that are in it purely for the self-reliant living aspects. Of interest to all we feel, are the contents of this blog we recently ran across. It is packed with information on emergency sustenance and long-term storage of foodstuffs. Check it out.

Multicam Basha

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

The term “Basha” is Malay for tent and is used by the British forces for tarps designed to be fashioned into expedient shelters. They are well known for their versatility, compactness and light weight. Integrated Combat Equipment of Canada is offering a Multicam version of this British classic. Fashioned from 330D Multicam cordura, it features 16 grommets along the edges and is approximately 7.5’ long by 5’ wide.

The Best € 3,95 You’ll Ever Spend

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Well maybe not, but this one is so odd we had to show everybody. Imagine a “Royal with Cheese” in a can. In German that’s “Cheeseburger in der Dose”. At any rate, it’s interesting to see what the European Backpacking community is eating.

Tactical Tailor Enhanced Duffel Bag

Friday, March 20th, 2009

If you are looking for a duffel that is well built yet won’t burn a hole in your pocket, the Enhanced Duffel from Tactical Tailor comes highly recommended to us. At $95 this is practically a steal. PEO-Soldier has been looking for a replacement for the venerable GI duffel and this bag seems to fit the bill.

Tactical Enhanced Duffel Bag

In addition to features found on the current issue bag like the ability to lock the bag shut, the Enhanced Duffel has shoulder straps that can be tucked away when not in use, as well as carry handles on top and at both ends. Additionally, there is a clear pocket and velcro strip to affix a name tape. To us, the best improvement is the full length zipper that allows you to pack and access your equipment more efficiently.

The Enhanced Duffel is made in the USA from 1000D Cordura and available in Tan, OD, and Foliage Green.
