Lancer Lightweight Carbon-Fiber Handguard

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

The Lightweight Carbon-Fiber Handguard from Lancer is pretty cool. It’s a free float handguard for 5.56mm AR type rifles and 7.62mm AR type rifles.

The carbon fiber tube is attached to the receiver extension with fasteners so no bonding is required. Additionally, the handguard will remain free floated even if used on a rifle with a fixed sight post due to clearance between the end of the handguard and the fixed front sight post.

It integrates cooling slots that pull double duty as attachment points for Picatinny rail segments. You can customize the setup of your handguard by placing rails only where you need them. Where needed, aircraft grade 7075-T6 aluminum is used.

As you can see, Lancer offers the handguard in extra long, rifle and carbine lengths as well as mid-length (not shown).

FirstSpear has selected Engagement Ring as the new name for their Mk32 40mm Speed Loader unveiled during last week’s Modern Day Marine. FirstSpear relied on SSD to reach put to our reader base in helping them find a suitable name for this innovative new product. Our readers responded with over 200 posts suggesting over 350 names.

Reader Alex suggested Engagement Ring and he will be receiving a Exigent Circumstance Pack in Coyote (his choice). Alex is currently downrange and we not only appreciate his service but also the fact that he reads SSD!

Thanks to everyone who participated, we’ve got some very creative readers! Also, we appreciate FirstSpear for having the confidence in us to run that contest.

Wolfhawk – The Knife That Mounts On Your Rifle

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

20120928-204455.jpg

Normally, a knife that mounts on your rifle its called a bayonet, unless it’s the Wolfhawk. A joint venture between Battle Blades and TOPS Knives, the Wolfhawk series utilizes a sheath that incorporates a Mil Std 1913 rail compatible mount.

Offered in two blade (Hunter and Tanto) and two handle (micarta and paracord) versions, it features a 3-1/4″ blade made from 1095 High Carbon steel (RC 56-58).

When I see things like this that are done simply because they can be, I fear we have invented everything.

MDM – CTC Defense

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

CTC Defense offers a dual laser sighting system for the GLOCK full size and compact models.

20120925-124528.jpg

Mounted on either side of the barrel, IR and Red visible lasers are controlled via buttons embedded in the grip, or alternatively via a SureFire X300 switch.

20120925-124610.jpg

In addition to the alerts, the grip is also textured and doesn’t dramatically increase the profile of the weapon’s grip. In fact, normal grip pressure in the correct spot, will activate the laser.

It is powered by two 2032 camera batteries. One is enough to power the lasers with the second on board for backup. Expect it to last 5000 illuminations meaning frequent use will give you about 9 months of use. You’ll notice the laser begin to fade when a new battery is required so you won’t experience a total failure.
