NTOA – Aimpoint PRO

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Restricted to Military, Gov’t, and LE only, the Aimpoint PRO features a COMP body and offers a 2 MOA dot as well as a NVG compatible lens. Additionally, the PRO comes with a mount with a removable shim to accommodate a variety of weapons. Ingeniously, Aimpoint also includes a sticker to record battery data.

This is a terrific balance of features and price and is, in my opinion, Aimpoint’s greatest value.

Paradigm SRP TALON Universal Weapons Mount

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Paradigm SRP provides services from Executive Protection to Foreign Internal Defense risk mitigation and consultations. And now, they’ve added some pretty high tech technology development to their portfolio.

You may have seen the first version of their TALON Universal Weapons Mount on the Discovery Channel series, “Sons of Guns.” The version you saw on the show utilized mechanical gyros, while this new version uses state-of-the-art fiber optic gyros.

Adaptable to many platforms including rotary wing aircraft, vehicles, and maritime systems, the TALON Universal Weapons Mount will accommodate a wide variety of weapons starting with the M4 type carbine for more stable shots to larger and more accurate systems for precision shots such as the .50 (rifle). Additionally, the TALON will mount belt fed systems such as a 7.62 Light Machine Gun (LMG). Furthermore, Paradigm SRP is working on compatibility with the Mk 19 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher. It is a simple and stable mounting design that does not require permanent alteration for installation but rather uses existing cargo hard points along with common tie-down straps.

Pinpoint precision is now achievable from aerial platforms (ground and maritime as well) due to the TALON’s design. A quick mount system allows the weapon to be attached to the TALON. Stabilization is achieved by incorporating mil-spec fiber optic gyros, high speed servos, and advanced circuitry into a precision machined two axis yoke. Stabilization correction solutions are made at a rate of over one thousand times per second. This is much faster than mechanical gyros.

If you want to know more, make you see the TALON Gun Mount in booth #811 at the National Tactical Officers Association’s 28th Annual Conference 18 and 19 September in Richmond, Virginia.

Magpul Releases New Grips

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

There are two new additions to the Magpul Original Equipment (MOE) line, the MOE+ Grip and MOE-K Grip.

The MOE+ Grip was first debuted some time back and it’s great to see it hit the market. It combines reinforced polymer body overmolded with rubber for weapon retention even when wet. It offers a similar shape to a ‘medium’ sized MIAD, and accepts optional storage cores for gear stowage and includes a basic grip cap. Available in Black.

The MOE-K is intended for use with PDWs (Personal Defense Weapon). It is a low profile, compact design with a steeper grip angle than traditional grips. Offered in Black, Flat Dark Earth, Foliage, and OD Green.

Made in USA, both grips are now shipping to all Magpul retailers. You can purchase the MOE-K from magpul.com.

Hog Saddle Tripod Mounted Rifle Rest

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Designed by a Marine Scout Sniper and OIF Veteran, the patent pending Hog Saddle is a rugged, lightweight (16 oz), mobile shooting platform that has been designed from the ground up to universally attach to tripod-based modular equipment, providing the shooter with a stable shooting position adaptable to any environment. These are in use now with military and LE shooters.

The Hog Saddle is built around four principles:

RUGGEDNESS – Specifically designed for the military sniper to be impact and corrosion resistant
PORTABILITY – 16 oz
VERSATILITY – Universal to any tripod platform utilizing 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 thread attachments
AMERICAN MADE – They didn’t sell out and go to Asia or India. They have kept their business in the USA

The Hog Saddle is CNC machined from a solid block of aluminum and then hard anodized and features a black oxide stainless steel bolt and guide rods. Adjustments are via a heavy-duty torque knob. Other components work in concert to mitigate noise and hold the weapon fast. There is a stainless steel noise dampening tension spring as well as 1/4 inch thick, recessed urethane pads specifically engineered to absorb rifle recoil and reduce muzzle jump.

Canada is Seeking a New Sidearm

Monday, September 12th, 2011

The Canadian Forces have begun the process of looking for a new sidearm. At least, they’ve taken the first step. At this point they are looking at availability and price, sort of like a US pre-solicitation, but won’t issue the actual solicitation until 2015. But, at least they’ve started along the path. The US military has had two false starts since the war began. First with SOCOM and then with the USAF.

According to the online price & availability letter, this new General Service Pistol “will replace the 9mm Browning High Power (HP) and the 9mm Sig Sauer Model 225 pistol.”

The Browning Hi-Power as their current Service Pistol and the Sig P225 is in service with the Canadian Forces Military Police. Interestingly, no mention was given to the Sig P226 which is in service with Naval Boarding Parties. The P&A letter mentions the potential for 10,000 pistols. Furthermore, the eventual winner will be required to provide the Technical Data Package to the Crown who will, in turn, provide it to Colt Canada who will produce the weapons. And oh yeah, they are only interested in 9mm NATO.

Marz Tactical has been introducing a slew of new products since coming on the scene in 2010. Their Field Kit caught our eye. Designed for small arms maintenance, it gives you a clean, dry space to lay out your parts and rolls up to a compact size. The coolest feature of the Field Kit Are the two magnets sewn into the fabric designed to keep your individual parts where you put them. Additionally, it features two 9″ x 3″ zippered compartments with adjustable internal dividers. These pockets sit atop sleeve pockets that will carry a Bolt Carrier Group or segmented cleaning rods.
