Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Blue Force Gear is the first company to offer their line of slings (except the Victory) in both Multicam and Universal Pattern. As with the rest of their product line, the webbing is low-IR with a flat, abrasion resistant finish. The Multicam pattern webbing has been approved by and is licensed from Crye Precision. The VCAS and Padded VCAS will be the first slings available in the new patterns. Deliveries should begin no later than mid-September.

If you want to know why this is so important, take a look at the picture below. Typically, slings are Black. The color matched UCP sling blends in perfectly with the ACU, drastically aiding the camouflage effect.

Hydrogel from Amron International

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Amron has been a DSCP Prime Vendor for Special Operations equipment as well as a major player in the tactical industry for many years. Originally a manufacturer for equipment for hard hat divers, Amron now offers an entire range of Soldier Systems products from a variety of vendors. In keeping with SSB’s commitment to introducing new and innovative products to a wider audience we were pleased to run across Amron’s newest home run; Hydrogel. Hydrogel originated in the medical industry but breachers soon determined that it’s inherent properties made it perfect for affixing charges to walls and doorways. You see, its stick on both sides, very sticky.

Magpul PMAG Update

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Magpul

By now you should be familiar with Magpul’s excellent PMAG (Polymer MAGazine). There are several models already available and more improvements on the way. The 30 round configuration has been around for awhile as a standard magazine (if you could call anything built by Magpul as standard) and a new variant called the Mag-Level version with a small window to verify the number of rounds in the magazine was recently released. There is a new translucent training mag. The training mag is designed to quickly verify whether or not a magazine is loaded. The followers, floor plates and snap covers are in a safety orange color. The PMAG is now also available in 20 round.

Additionally, Magpul’s ever popular Ranger Plates have now been engineered specifically for the PMAG and are now available to easily retrofit your PMAGs. Magpul is also poised to release a maritime floor plate for the PMAG with drainage holes. These are color matched to the PMAGs and available in tactical colors.

Magpul is selling PMAGs to AAFES but unfortunately, none have been seen for sale in theater. This may be due to ITAR restrictions. Whenever they are in stock at CONUS PXs they quickly sell out.

They are available in a wide range of colors to satisfy everyone from the deployed military member to the recreational shooter. Colors include Black, Olive Drab, Flat Dark Earth, Foliage Green, Olive Drab, Orange, Bright Green, and Pink.

PMAGs are available from a wide variety of sources including Magpul, Grey Group Training, and Advanced Outfitters.

Caution: PMAGs are controlled by US State Department ITAR and cannot be exported from the US without proper authorization. Check local laws before purchasing/possessing PMAGs. M16/M4 Handbook

M16/M4 Handbook–an Operational Guide to the Standard U.S. Military Assault Rifle

Mike Pannone’s excellent handbook, “M16/M4 Handbook–an Operational Guide to the Standard U.S. Military Assault Rifle” has been on the market for several months now but we don’t feel it has been given all of the exposure it deserves. In our opinion, it should be issued to every member of the military the day they arrive at Basic Training, regardless of branch of service. In fact, to echo one reviewer’s comments, issue of the handbook shouldn’t be limited to military members but to law enforcement as well as anyone who employs the M16 or M4. It is filled with the pertinent facts required to properly operate and maintain the M16 family of weapons. Notice it is a handbook. It’s compact size means that you can keep it handy when training.

Mike Pannone began his service in the Marines serving in Recon. Later he transferred to the Army and served in it’s Special Operations Forces. He has also served as a defense contractor and currently serves as an instructor. To put it lightly, Mike Pannone knows his way around a carbine.

At $19.95 look at it as an investment. The handbook is available from Blackheart International.

Strider Knives Captures Another Govt Contract

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Strider

DLA recently awarded Strider Knives a contract for the delivery of .50 Caliber Headspace and Timing Gages (yes Gages). Interestingly, the specifications for the “Gage” written during WW II misspell the word. Strider produced them exactly to spec and the Government is enjoying a healthy savings as well.

Congrats guys!

Of course, interested parties should contact Strider Knives.

MM / Emdom Collaborate on Ammo SAC

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Emdom USA

Conceived by MM, he wanted an alternative to both wasteful ammunition packaging of cardboard and foam as well as the GI ammo can so he came up with the Ammo SAC (Soft Ammo Can). Many shooters carry boxed ammo to the range and then have to deal with all of the trash amassed as ammo is broken down. On many ranges there are no accommodations for trash and what you pack in, you have to pack out. The most common alternative is the surplus ammo can which is handy, but is made of metal and the loose rounds rattle around inside. The other down side is that they take up a lot of storage space when not being used. The Ammo SAC on the other hand, is a handy way to organize and transport loose rounds and it folds flat for storage.

MM/ EMDOM Ammo SAC

Many shooters already use a variety of improvised methods to carry loose ammo, but they are often expedient solutions and fall apart after a couple of uses. The Ammo Sac’s body is manufactured from 500D Cordura to keep down weight and the bottom is reinforced with 1000D Cordura. It also features wrap around handles, a tuck away flap and drawstring to keep the contents inside where they belong, and a small pocket with clear window on the side to carry a loading device as well as a label.

MM / EMDOM Ammo SAC

The Ammo SAC is currently available in two sizes, the large measures approximately 8.5″ long x 6.5″ wide x 7.5″ tall and has room for the contents of a large .50 cal ammo can (11.5″ x 7″ x 6″), or at least 1000 rounds of 5.56 mm and the small Ammo SAC measures approximately 7″ long x 5″ wide x 6″ tall. It can hold the contents of a standard .30 cal ammo can (10″ x 7″ x 3″), or at least 750 rounds of 5.56 mm.

The Ammo SAC is available in Coyote Brown, and Foliage Green.

A write up by the inventor can be found at here.

Gemtech Tactical Retention Lanyard

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Its kind of like the movie “Highlander”, “There can be only ONE!”. That’s how we feel about the Gemtech TRL. Gemtech is a company known for their high quality sound suppressors but they hit a home run with the design of the TRL. With its 100 lbs breaking strength the TRL will keep your sidearm attached to your person but will break away in life and death situations. Its been on the market for several years but we have yet to find one better. In fact, the TRL has been awarded US as well as British NSNs.
