We’re presenting this Friday Focus from DSEI in London where we’ll take a look at two new maritime clothing systems from Typhoon International. Although FirstSpear does not manufacture Typhoon’s gear, the two companies have worked together as solution provides for multiple international customers. In fact, in these photos you’ll see FirstSpear and Typhoon offerings presented in complimentary fashion. Now in their 70th year, Typhoon International manufactures drysuits for some of the world’s most elite forces. Let’s take a look at two of their latest offerings, the FR/Breathable Coxswain/Crew Member Suit and the FR/Breathable Assault Suit. Both suits are manufactured from a WL Gore provided fabric which combines a waterproof/breathable membrane with their Pyrad FR capability which offers FR comparable to Nomex.
The FR/Breathable Coxswain/Crew Member Suit is a two piece design with a smock top and salopette pant. It weighs in at 1.35kg.
The hood is removable and Typhoon offers a couple of different styles. You’ll notice a slight gap at the hood zip. This is to accommodate a comms cord.
The smock also offers eel skin neck and cuff seals as well as pockets on the upper arm.
The salopettes are worn with braces (suspenders) and offer a convenience zip at the front. Finally, there’s a Kevlar overlay on the seat and knees.
The Assault Suit is a one-pice drysuit weighing under 1kg. Designed to go fast and light, it’s more of an operational suit than for training.
It has chest access, a convenience zipper at the front and Kevlar reinforced seat, elbows and knees.
The drysuit upper arm pockets are more streamlined than the versions on the smock.
While the garments are seen here in Black and UK MultiTerrain Pattern, Typhoon told me they cannot offer MTP to customers outside of MoD, but will use MultiCam instead. They also offer Green versions of these garments. Sizes Small-XXLarge.
