Grey Ghost Precision – Grim Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor

Tuesday, April 11th, 2017

I had the pleasure of spending last week with several brands at the High Bar Homestead near Gillette, Wyoming along with several other writers. This facility is amazing, with a variety of range, from 25 out to 2000 yds.

The rifles were all from Grey Ghost Precision. I’ve owned a GGP S-series Heavy rifle in .308 since they first came out and it’s been a reliable companion on several hog hunts as well as for range trips, so you can say I’m a fan of the brand. Their receiver sets are manufactured from 7075-T651 aluminum billets to their specs by Mega Arms and True Black Type III Mil Spec Hard Coat Anodized. The builds are excellent.

GGP brought rifles in .223, .300 and .308 but what caught my eye was the new Grim in 6.5 Creedmoor.

HBH 5 - GGP65 - 2a

While I checked them all out in turn, I found myself going back to the 6.5, regardless of the range we were on at the time. It was a dream to shoot. The recoil was a push, while I felt that the .308 S-series Heavy had a stronger recoil. The accuracy was amazing, making it a snap to score hits out to 1000 yds, even in winds. I could easily shoot a full 20 round magazine on steel at 800 yds and hear that comforting ping after each shot. After one of these events, a friend said, “Good shooting, Eric” but I had to admit to him that it was the rifle and not me. It shot so well that any misses were definitely on me and while I did indeed miss a few, that gun was a laser out to 800 yds. It almost took the fun out of it…almost.

The lower is ambidextrous with ambi safety, magazine and bolt release, but left-side only catch. The Grim is outfitted with a 16” hand KeyMod or M-Lok handguard and comes stock with a curved or flat face CMC 2-stage 2lb set/2lb release, but users can choose an optional Geissele SSA-E for a slight upcharge. The stock is the Magpul Gen 3 PRS. All excellent components, but I think some of the magic in this gun is the 22” Proof Research stainless barrel with 1/8 Twist. You’ll notice in the images that the barrel isn’t coated and that’s because during testing they found it affected the performance of the rifle. It also has a slightly longer rifle Length gas system, with an extra 2” long, paired with a Superlative Arms Adjustable Gas Block.

If you’re already shooting a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun like I am, and are looking for a reliable gas gun to pair with it, I suggest you check out the Grey Ghost Precision Grim. If you already own a GGP S-series Heavy, I understand they’ll be introducing a 6.5 Creed upper receiver group soon.

Sneak Peek – Grey Ghost Precision Glock Slides

Wednesday, April 5th, 2017

I’m out in Wyoming at the High Bar Homestead with several other writers checking out new products from a couple of brands in anticipation of the upcoming NRA Annual Meeting. One of the items we’ve had the opportunity, to check out is this new GLOCK slide from GGP.

Designed as an affordable, Commercial Off The Shelf slide for GLOCK pistols, they are available in two cuts, for G17 or G19 and manufactured from 4140 steel.

This version features lightening cuts and features a rear sight dovetail mounted Delta Point Pro MRDS by Leupold Optics. The suppressor is a Silencerco Osprey.

The second variant features geoscales, milled to enhance handling.

This G19 also features the Delta Point Pro and is equipped with the SilencerCo Omega9K suppressor.

This photo gives you an idea of what the top of the slide looks like.

Expect to pay around $500 for a complete slide, minus sights and barrel and $400ish for a slide without the internal parts.

The barrels are aftermarket and incorporate threads for suppressors and a SAAMI spec chamber with 1/10 twist rifling. They should be about $200.

Both pistols incorporate a CMC trigger.

The initial run of G19 slides is currently in finish and will be available just before NRAAM from Grey Ghost Precision.

Frankie McRae Assumes Leading Role with Grey Ghost

Dalton Gardens, ID – Frankie McRae Assumes Leading Role with Grey Ghost

“The world needs men – not grand geniuses or plausible talkers. It is not sentimentality and dreams that will save it, but acts and deeds.” (Von Doss, c. 1887)

Grey Ghost Precision takes sublime delight in making the following announcement.

Frankie McRae is now our Senior Adviser for Training and Product Development.

frankie2

McRae is a man of acts and deeds. A storied former Special Forces soldier (18D and 18Z), he has effectively been a brand ambassador – a real ambassador mind you, the way it should be – since long before it occurred to us to have brand ambassadors.

Nearly 2 years ago he completed a long and thorough review of the first GG Light rifle before we knew he was considering it (that review shared here on Soldier Systems Daily).

He put over sixteen thousand rounds through a GGP production rifle (that he purchased himself) before writing that review.

Afterward he began providing advice and insight to GG “Just Because.” He trained some of our friends and family. He was instrumental in having our rifles sent on a proving deployment to a CENTCOM combat zone (which is as best we know the first time it spoke in anger). Since then his influence on GGP has steadily grown. This is due in no small part to his incredible knowledge and experience. Now he is friend and family.

frankie1

McRae was an instructor at SFAUC (Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat) and the NCOIC of the SFARTAETC (US Army Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance Target Analysis and Exploitation Techniques) course at Ft. Bragg. Over the course of his career he served with the 75th Ranger Regiment, 1st SFG(A), and 3rd SFG (A). Some of that time was spent in the assault team leader billet for F team, Troop 1 of the Combatant Commander’s In-Extremis Force (CIF/OEF-P); he was later with B-2-3 as a team sergeant and troop sergeant major with 3rd Group’s CIF. He was a Company SGM advisor to the Iraq Counter-Terrorism Force, an exchange instructor at the Israeli Counter-Terrorism School and was honored for having the highest graduation rate in SFARTAETC’s 2 decade history. He was later assigned to a special projects team with USASOC HQ R&D.

Since his retirement Frankie has developed Range 37PSR, made Raidon Tactics a premiere training organization, “deployed” all over the world as a contractor to both combat zones and disaster areas, and taken the stand as an expert witness in homicide cases involving soldiers brought up on charges for shootings during combat operations.

There are a host of reasons why McRae deserves the title Ambassador Plenipotentiary, any one of which would sufficient on its own. Unfortunately few people know what that term means (especially in our offices, where much knuckle dragging occurs), and even the few who do can’t pronounce it.

Senior Advisor for Training and Product Development will do.

We are as proud as we are elated to begin 2017 by making this official proclamation.

If you’re interested, you can learn more about McRae in this interview.

“Being born an American is a birthright. Every human has a calling. God gave us a talent. It’s our job to find that talent and help others with it. You can’t be a good American if you’re not.” Frankie McRae

It will be manufactured by Kruger Optical to the specs put together for them by a team of former SFARTAETC and SFAUC instructors, precision competition shooters and hunters.

Sneak Peek – Grey Ghost Precision

Friday, December 30th, 2016

GGP will be formally releasing a new rifle at SHOT Show. We can’t tell you what it is, but the name rhymes with 6.5 Grey Ghost GRIM.

Here’s a look at it on the range recently with Scott Satterlee, a former SFAUC Instructor (now with CORE Shooting Solutions) who describes it thusly:

“The GGP 6.5 Creedmoor ran flawlessly all week. 650 rounds without cleaning – not a single stoppage or failure to feed/fire. Yesterday morning the shooter running the rifle [pictured] had a first round hit cold bore on 8 in. plate at 691 yds. As far as torture test and accuracy goes – that’s about as good as it gets. Rifle runs great.”
