GHOSTEX at SHOT Show

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

While it’s not truly a debut, GHOSTEX, a joint venture between camouflage gurus Hyperstealth and tailored logistics titans ADS is being unveiled to the masses. The reason we say not truly a debut is that previously, they had premiered a sample of their lineup at the ADS Warrior Expo last summer in Virgina Beach.

Intended primarily to support niche forces, GHOSTEX (Ghost Textures) derives its name from the US Army’s Ghost unit of WWII, (23rd Headquarters Special Troops). This Ghost Army specialized in Camouflage, Concealment and Deception (CCD). The premise of the mashup is intriguing; Commercial Off the Shelf camo patterns to cover virtually any scenario paired with rapid manufacturing capabilities to support contingency operations.

We took a look at their wares during the Warrior Expo and came back impressed. The GHOSTEX website goes into pretty good detail about what they are up to so make sure you visit it to gain a deeper understanding of what they have going on. One important detail that we appreciate is that the GHOSTEX program is limited to authorized customers. These patterns are going to be restricted to those who need them only.

Will GHOSTEX be a contender for the Army’s Family of Camouflage program? We won’t know the answer to that until the solicitation is actually released, but if they do, my money is on something completely new that we haven’t even seen yet. After all, with over 8000 patterns to their credit, no one concentrates on camo like Hyperstealth.

Be sure to visit the Hyperstealth reps at ADS, Inc’s booth #20415.

Ahhh…Now It All Makes Sense

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

So we’ve been sitting around the office for weeks trying to figure out Hypersealth came up with SMARTCAMOâ„¢, that color changing camo material they recently teased us with.

Then, we find out that Dr. Joseph Resnick, Lt. Col. Timothy R. O’Neill, Ph.D (U.S. Army, Ret.) and Guy Cramer (of Hyperstealth fame) have owned mineral rights for 95% of the side of the moon that faces Earth, the polar regions and 50% of the far side of the Moon since 2007. And that isn’t to mention their mineral rights on Mars!

So this has got to be it, they have found some rare mineral on the Moon that makes SMARTCAMOâ„¢ work. Now the question is, how did they get it back to Earth?

SMARTCAMO Color Changing Camouflage Materials from Hyperstealth

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

We ran across this the other day and we have to say up front that if this stuff is real, then why is the US Army getting ready to invest millions of dollars in the Family of Camouflage Patterns program?

According to a recent release by Hyperstealth, CEO Guy Cramer presented the new wonder fabric at the Brussels International Camouflage Symposium held in October. His presentation was entitled “Fractals in Camouflage and the Future of Adaptive Materials for Mobile Concealment” and included a video glimpse of SMARTCAMOâ„¢ technology. Unfortunately, according to Hyperstealth, the “US Military” has requested that he not reveal the video to the public.

Oddly enough, Hyperstealth CEO Guy Cramer was at the Army’s Camo Improvement Industry Day and not a peep was uttered about this. Granted, the Army was pretty open about not looking for out of the ordinary solutions but something like this? That promises to blend into any background would make our troops all but invisible? Why bother at all with developing camo patterns that are really just compromises?

So, if this is real, let’s see it. I don’t know if you can put a price on true adaptive camouflage, particularly for the individual Soldier, but if SMARTCAMOâ„¢’s works, let’s adopt it.

I’ll admit, I’m skeptical. If something sounds to good to be true, it generally is but if this is what they say it is, it’s a huge leap ahead for anyone who adopts the technology. Read the whole press release here and decide for yourself.
