Updated: EOTech to Discontinue Insight Branded Lights

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013

This email went out to dealers early this morning from EOTech:

Dear EOTech distributors and sales representatives:

This letter is to inform your company that EOTech is discontinuing the distribution of its line of Insight branded weapon lights. The discontinuation will include all models and sku’s, including the following family of lights: M3, M3X, M6, M6X, X2, X2L, WL1 and WMX200. The IFL (Integrated Fore-end Light) remains strongly positioned in its category and will continue unaffected by this announcement. (emphasis added) The effective date of this change will be January 1st, 2014 and all existing purchase orders in the system will be honored. We are giving notice of these product changes in order for your company to adjust its product purchasing records or to make any final lifetime purchases of the discontinued products that are still in supply.

We request that you carefully review these changes and notify your buyers to place your company’s final purchases for available discontinued products as soon as possible. Orders will continue to be accepted until the end of the calendar year but only while supplies last. Additionally, effective immediately, MAP restrictions will be lifted to assist you in the movement of current inventory.

Warranty and customer service inquiries on the product line will continue unchanged per the L-3 Warrior Systems/Insight contact information provided in the product literature.

The decision to exit this business was due to the industry trend in this product category for low cost, foreign made devices. As EOTech product always has, and will continue to be built in the USA, the decision was made to exit this business and focus on the core product line and on our operations here in the USA.

We appreciate your understanding and assistance in helping us help you minimize the impact of this product discontinuation on your company. We also thank you for your continued support and success of the EOTech product line.

UPDATE: They aren’t going away. Insight will continue to produce and sell these lights.

Industry Party Benefits Higher Ground

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Last night, an industry party sponsored by Elite Defense, FirstSpear, Insight Technologies, Smith Optics Elite Division, and Magnum raised funds for Higher Ground (a program of Sun Valley Adaptive Sports). Higher Ground provides a multidisciplinary approach to the long-term healing, restoration, and rehabilitation of wounded veterans with TBI/PTSD

The event was attended by many industry professionals along with members of the profession of arms. They were treated to hors d’oeuvres and there was much catching up amongst old friends.

A sumptuous raffle prize table was overflowing with highly sought after tactical products from a variety of vendors. At the end of the night, there were a lot of pleased revelers.

Except us, we didn’t win anything. But that SMG Lee did. He won two prizes. If you know where he lives, you know what to do…say, “Congrats!”

The AN/PEQ-16A is Coming

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

In late 2009, the rail mounted Insight AN/PEQ-16A Mini Integrated Pointer Illuminator Module (MIPIM) began replacing its predecessor, the Insight AN/PEQ-15 Advanced Target Pointer Illuminator Aiming Light (APTIAL), mounted on US small arms overseas. Built on a different chassis than the 15 that is a little larger and squarer in shape, its salient feature is the introduction of an integral 100 Lumen white light to augment the visible and infrared laser designator and illuminator. While most troops currently carry a separate rail mounted flashlight to provide illumination when searching caves or houses, the integration of the flashlight into this design combines several one of the most highly used tools in the War On Terror into a single package.

L-3 to Acquire Insight Technology

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

L-3 Communications announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Insight Technology Incorporated (Insight). Insight develops and manufactures night vision and laser aiming and illumination devices. Headquartered in Londonderry, New Hampshire, Insight employs approximately 1,100 people. The purchase price was not disclosed and will be funded with cash on hand. However, according to Business Wire, “Insight is expected to generate approximately $290 million of sales for the twelve months ending December 31, 2010. Before giving effect to the present value of tax related benefits of the transaction and expected synergies, the purchase price represents a multiple of approximately nine times estimated 2010 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA).”

It is anticipated that Ken Solinsky, Insight’s founder and president, will become president of L-3’s newly created Warrior Systems Sector. He will report to James W. Dunn, senior vice president and president of L-3’s Sensors and Simulation Group. The Warrior Systems Sector will include Insight as well as L-3’s existing electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) businesses currently addressing the warrior systems market and will be reported in L-3’s Electronic Systems segment. As you may remember, in 2007 L-3 purchased Eotech, producers of holograraphic gunsights. Based on this information it is a safe bet that the Eotech line will be moved into the Warrior Systems Sector. It will be interesting to see how this affects Insight’s line of Red Dot Sights.
