You Can’t Keep a Good Monkey Down

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

And that goes double for our favorite monkey, MILSPECMONKEY himself. He is constantly releasing new items but two recently caught our eye.

The first is the DeathMechanic Shirt. Available in a variety of colors this t-shirt is for people who fix things…… to death!

And next is the MONKEY key chain featuring his iconic logo. When we got one in the mail we almost ran out to buy a new car just so we would have some keys for it.

Mad Duo Presents: Blue Falcon Patch – Often So Richly Deserved

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Buddy is just half a term. Blue Falcon sounds so much better, whether you say it in jest or with your teeth gritted from restraining the urge to throat punch some jackass that so desperately needs it.

We’re not talking about the Batman-look-a-like and his biomechanical dog, of course—as cool as they made Saturday mornings back in the day, their ongoing fights with Fishface, Swamprat, and other escapees from Big City Prison lack sufficient umph to become an integral part of the American military lexicon. You have to be a true Bravo Foxtrot (to use the convenient acronym for it) to earn such a revered place in military parlance. Bravo Foxtrottery (aka Blue Falconing) will probably be with us for a long time, or at least until a newer and better term comes along.

Besides, if you enlisted any time after the turn of the century you may not remember them (though the power of Boomerang reruns is not to be underestimated).

In any case, there’s little doubt you already know what it means if you’re reading this, and even less doubt (following this same line of reasoning) that you’ve witnessed one appear. Perhaps you’ve even seen it several times. It can happen anywhere, at any rank, and can run the gamut from task-oriented Blue Falconing at the squad or platoon level all the way up to truly prodigious HQ style Blue Falconing closer to the flagpole. It is frequently seen in billets or at bars and, in its most egregious appearance, immediately prior to a deployment.

Of course, it can also be used in response to a practical joke or ribald event that should never be talked about at the dinner table.

In any case, if you need a patch to pass along to someone that truly deserves it, the redoubtable MilSpecMonkey has come through for you. MSM has a Blue Falcon crest that will no doubt find its way into many a barracks or shop. It’s being retailed in several places, including Going Loud Tactical Outfitters and MilSpecMonkey’s own store. Incidentally, there’s a pretty funny organization blog on line at that’s worth reading, and if it’s not updated as frequently as we’d like, the contents always good.

Gitcha one of these crests fo’ sho’. If you purchase from either of the two places we mentioned, let ‘em know you heard it from us. We’re trying to get free swag for folks that submit pictures.

As always, should you possess sufficient perspicuity to realize how cool it is to be associated with us, please enroll in our blog at or join us on FaceBook at

Will Ferrell meets MilSpecMonkey

Simianus En Obscurus

As odd of a mash up as that may sound that is exactly what happened on HBO’s “You’re Welcome America” starring Will Ferrell. As I watched him lampoon President Bush, the MilSpecMonkey symbol appeared during a hilarious skit about a brigade of attack monkeys training in secret at Fort Bragg. Sure, some of the show was over the top, but it was a good laugh all around.

MSM Loop Panels

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

A myriad of low-profile tactical clothing and packs are currently on the market that rely on a velcro-based attachment system consisting of a grid of pile to secure holsters, pouches, and other accessories. Unfortunately, many of the pouches intended for these systems are very specialized and do not support a wide enough variety of equipment. Other models don’t offer internal organizers at all. Quite frankly, since the advent of PALS, velcro based systems have taken a back seat.

MSM Loop Panel

With this in mind, MilSpecMonkey developed the new Loop Panel as a low-cost alternative to what’s currently on the market.

MSM Loop Panel

The Loop Panels accommodate a wide variety of items from pistol and rifle magazines to flashlights due to the ingenious, yet simple design that utilizes two rows of different widths of elastic. There are two, 2″ slots on the inner elastic and a 4″ slot on the outer elastic. The loops are sewn down about .5″ from the ends to help prevent the panel from curling and the ends of the elastic are great for holding pens and markers.

They are sold in pairs and measure about 5″ x 2″.

Soldier Systems Blog Unveils Logo

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

We have been around for several months now and got off to a rip roaring start. Content was more important than fluff and oddly enough, our spartan style has garnered a lot more praise than we had expected. However, its hard to have proper business cards (or T-shirts for that matter) without a logo so we went to one of our favorite artists, Mil Spec Monkey and he put together several concepts. We liked this one. You will begin to see it more often.
