20th Anniversary of The Battle of Mogadishu

Thursday, October 3rd, 2013

Today marks the 20th Anniversary of the Oct 3rd Raid during which elements of TF Ranger, deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia conducted an operation on that city’s Olympic Hotel in order to capture key leaders of the Aidid Militia.

Unfortunately, during the exfil portion of the raid a battle ensued that claimed the lives of 18 Americans and wounded another 73. Additionally, CW3 Michael Durant was captured by the militia. Fortunately, Durant was later repatriated and went on to retire from the 160th.

For those of you unfamiliar, one of the best accounts of the battle is contained in the book, “Blackhawk Down” by author Mark Bowden. Much of the information was serialized prior to the book’s publication in the Philadelphia Enquirer. Later this was made into a movie bearing the same name.

If you want to here more from a man that was there in the thick of it, pick up a copy of Panteao Productions‘ “Battle of the Black Sea” featuring MSG Paul Howe (USA, Ret).

Please take a moment to remember these men and their sacrifice.

New Film Company Panteao Pictures Announces Project

Friday, July 19th, 2013

I found out about the launch of Panteao Pictures and this project the other day and I’m intrigued.

Fernando Coelho, the President/CEO of Panteao Productions, is proud to announce the launch of the sister company to Panteao Productions, Panteao Pictures. Panteao Productions will continue to produce instructional, industrial, and documentary videos. Panteao Pictures will take on the role of producing a motion picture. The film, called Alexander’s Bridge, is currently in pre-production and scheduled for a fall 2014 theatrical release.

Instructors from the Panteao Productions Make Ready series of videos will be having cameo roles in the film. Tom Spooner, Scot Spooner, J.D. Potynsky, John Spears, and Don Gross are on board as technical advisors for the film. Tom, Scot, and J.D. will be training the lead actors of the film as well as having roles in the film. Filming will be done on location in Georgia.

The original story is by Fernando Coelho. The screenplay is by Fernando Coelho, Scot Spooner, and John Spears.

This isn’t Fernando Coelho’s first step into the film world. In 1989 he was involved in a motion picture that was filmed on location in Malaysia. It was produced by Sunny Films and directed by Toby Russell (son of director Ken Russell). The film was called the DaDah Connection. Fernando co-wrote the screenplay, played a bad guy in the film, blocked out scenes and choreographed the gunplay.

“With my previous experience from working with Toby Russell on the DaDah Connection and more recently the videos Panteao Productions produced, I felt it was time to tackle a project that I have wanted to pursue since my ammo days”, said Fernando. “With the experience of our existing crew members and additional crew we are bringing on board, this is going to be a top notch production with the end result being a film that will be out there for decades to come.”

When asked what the film was about, all Fernando would say is, “It involves a small group of Delta Operators that are put into the middle of a battle they never thought they would face. Beyond that, ya gotta wait for the trailer to come out.”

Panteao Pictures launched the website for the motion picture (www.alexandersbridge.com) as well as a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AlexandersBridge). Panteao will be making regular updates to the website and FB pages, keeping folks up to date on the project.

Support Panteao Productions’ Kickstarter Project

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

Panteao Productions launched a fund raising project on Kickstarter today in an effort to help fast track the construction of an indoor studio and outdoor ranges near their headquarters in SC. They have a 34 acre undeveloped parcel and their local banks are willing to do a loan on a building but are hesitant on the range portion. However, due to the intended use of the facility, the ranges are the more important aspect of the project since they need them for filming future videos.

They have been wanting to film a series of documentary videos on K9 Dog Handling, starting with “Intro to Schutzhund” and “Advanced Schutzhund”. The funds raised as part of this project will help prepare their facility in order to begin filming of these new titles.

Panteao Productions Presents – Battle of the Black Sea

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Panteao Productions presents “Battle of the Black Sea” a documentary look at the events leading up to and including the combat operation in Mogadishu, Somalia on 3-4 Oct, 1993. The interview-style video features MSG Paul Howe (USA, Ret), a Veteran of that battle. I spent the weekend watching the video’s many chapters and I can say that it is excellent. He points out instances where the movie “Blackhawk Down” incorrectly depicts the events and speaks very frankly about subjects that few are willing to broach even in private. If you want a look behind Howe’s mindset and experience on planning and executing combat operations, this is a must see. I highly recommend it.
